  1. Hi Guys,

Black carp are definitely in the USA. I have heard about them a long while back. They are used in catfish farming as a natural exterminator for snails. They eat the snails that are a intermediate host for certain diseases in catfish. No snails, no reproduction, no disease was the thinking.

Problem is that some of them escaped during flooding. Bad move.

  2. Hi Maciek,

Interesting about the size of your boilies. I tried that once with KARPER and those were even larger than yours. We caught 9 #ers on the double large boilies and high 20s on one or two pieces of hair rigged corn.

I guess it has more to do with the waters you fish. If there are large carp, you tend to catch them.

Excellent. Keep up the good work.

  3. Try spilling a flavor like greenlip mussel in the car. Or squid octopus. See if you like the smell of your car then.

PS> There is a flavor in Europe (the name has slipped my mind) that has the nickname of divorce flavor. You use it in the house to make boilies, you will get a divorce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Hi John,

Congratulations on the little addition. I have had to witness 2 sons born (both beat yours @ 9# 15 oz. and 9# 1 oz) and a third one is coming.

If things go well, your carping days will be limited for a few years. Mine are at least. But the bright side is that he will be a good future helper for carrying all the carp gear!!!!!

Take care and get some sleep.

  5. Hi Guys,

    Those flies look really good.

I have been looking at the increasing interest and websites for flyfishign for carp. I am really itching to try that out.

I have a local fly fishing store that actually has employees that fly fish for carp. Finally, I will not get the look of death when I ask about carping!!!!

I have no gear at all but I will look around for some cheapy fly gear. A friend of mine is an avid flyer so he will borrow me some gear when we fish together.

    Can't wait.

PS> I hope Lowell will bring his flygear this weekend so he can show me how to cast. And what is important about the gear.

  6. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the pictures of the flies. That will help a lot when we go to the store and try to pick some out. Or maybe have the fly tiers there make some for us. I like the 'eyes' on them.

I have to say I like Wendy's better because of the flimsy tail. It would seem the carp would suck the entire thing in instead of focussing on the tail of John Montana's fly. But then again, I know nothing about flies and fly fishing, I am just guessing.

Thanks and keep us updated on the progress.

PS. what size hook is that?

  7. Hi Corey,

Congrats on the PBs. That 27 could have come from my lake. Large long fish with a giant head and almost no meat on him. I catch them like that all the time. I wish they had some fat on them; they would be easily mid 30s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad to see I am not the only one catching that type of fish. I always wondered if I was cursed with those skinny carp.

  8. Hi Wendy,

That was a great story and even better pictures. You are very lucky to have a water with such shallow banks and carp feeding on it.

Can you tell us what kind of fly you were exactly using? A friend of mine is a trout fly fisherman and I am a carp bait fisherman and we both would like to try carp on the fly some time. We just need some info on what fly to use.

  9. wow, those are really beautiful fish. The peacock is amazing.

The first fish you posted looks very much like a tilapia. They are good eating fish too.

You are quite lucky to have a job that let's you go there and not have to pay. I spend 2 months in Costa Rica on vacation with my scholarship. It was great, but no rods so no fish.

Hope you get to go again soon with more fishing gear and a cable for your camera.

  10. hi Carpinken,

Congrats on the new PB. Nice to see those large NY carp. And doesn't it feel great to catch them on bait you made yourself? I love that feeling.

PS. Since you are in NY, are you coming to the Oneida Lake fishin end of July? Would be great to have a few more guys fishing. Contact Frank at RDbaits to confirm

    Thanks

  11. Hi Scott,

Good to see you still have a nice sense of humor!!!!!

    Carpniels

PS. Next time you are in NY, I can think of a few small things I want to mooch of you (solar world wide pod, Century NGs, Daiwa Infinity's).

Oh wait, never mind, I am going to beat you at the CAGI next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ') ') ')

  12. Hi Karl,

Be smart, learn from others. Terry was warned about TDP before anything happened. He did not listen and unfortunately learned the hard way. Don't make that mistake again. Stay far, far away!!!

    Carpniels

PS. IF you do a little searching on this forum, you will find plenty of info on the Terry vs. TDP incident.

  13. PA carper,

You are right. It is a grassie. Look at the mouth.

Nice size but nothing special. Todd hawgmaster caught them bigger. There are plenty of lakes with larger ones.

Strange that state people don't know the difference between common carp and grass carp.

  14. I would go to any tributary to a major lake. Does not matter much where. Here in the north (NY) the trobs are full of carp and some are large. I catch 30+ yearly and some people have caught more and larger fish (40+) or better.

Lake Ontario, Erie, Michigan, Huron, large rivers (st L): it does not matter. All have plenty of 30+ fish to keep all of us happy forever.

I read about 60+ caught in traps in Lake O last year.

Our problem is not trying to catch all the small fish before a 30+ comes around.

  15. Hi Steve,

I was in your area last week (trenton). Good fishing apparently.

Sorry about the photos. Never trust another photographer and setting up with a timer. Fish don't cooperate.

I try to take a picture as soon as I catch the carp. Tired carp take good pictures. Moreover, some flash pictures come out real good.

Sorry about the mixup too. My best pictures of my 37# PB are 30 ft away very small on a blurry foggy photo taken by a walleye fisherman. So don't feel too bad.

Also, since the season started so well, just do it over and learn from your mistakes.

  16. Hi Lowell and company,

It looks like you had a much better weekend than the CAGI a few weeks ago. You caught more with the two of you than all 50 CAGI fishermen together!!!

Were there as many people as last year? Doesn't look like it.

Next year I will try to be there again.

PS. I couldn't even get out last weekend due to the baptism and party afterwards. But at 90+ degrees in NYC, I didn't mind!!
