  1. Very nice picture indeed.

I have been fortunate enough to see carp and tench in similar waters too, but in contrast, my picture came out REALLY BAD!!!!

I am glad to see that someone understands the art of taking photos better than I and is willing to share that with us.

  2. Hi Guys,

My first carp....................Must have been 1980 in Holland. The moats in my town contain only carp, so it was easy. About 1/4 pound (4") BIG!!! On a 14 ft telescopic pole, with 4 pound test a little float.

They used to have carp competitions there (in the 80s). I was pretty good (finishing between third and 15th) with a total length of carp (weight was not important) of between 6 and 18 ft of carp. All small ones between 4 and 8 ".

  3. Hi Todd,

You are right. Discussing these pictures is quite fun.

OTOH, I am NOT going to Austin! I would have liked to go, but NY to TX is just too far to drive and too expensive to fly. Plus, I just found out yesterday, that the icedam caused water into the addition and I had to rip up the carpet in order to prevent mold (whihc i do nto want around me 8 month old!!).

If you go to Austin, please make a trip up to Athens, TX. The Texas Fresh water museum is there and they have that 121.5# blue cat swimming there. Should be an awesome sight!!!!

Fixing this will cost me a great deal of money (new roof, new sliding door, new carpet) so I will be limited to trips in area (Lake O, St L, Oakland Lake, Troy, and hopefully DC). Not a bad compromise, I hope.

PS. Plus me not being there is one less funny talking guy!!! :D:D:D

  4. Hi Todd,

Thanks for clearing that up. I did not know people were like that in those days. I have seen that gar picture many times. I did not know the cat picture, but it seems obviously fake. The lighting of the guy is different than the fish.

Still, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Unless it is obvious (like the cat picture).

Talking about cats, for those who are interested, I have included a picture of the new workld record blue cat, caught on 16 january 2004 in Lake Texoma. 121.5 pounds. Nice!!!! Who said the waters are all polluted ?????

  5. HI Sean,

Really nice picture. I am jealous right now, but I will not be once the Santa Ana winds start and you guys are stuck with wildfires.

    Hi Pat,

Nice picture as well. I liked seeing the ice in the background. I am sure the water is above 50 degrees, otherwise you would not have caught it (at least, according to Phone). I am glad to know that you can actually catch carp in the dead of winter. Was it caught at a WWD?

    HI NJ Rob,

Think about having to shovel that kind of snow for a week straight. That is what I had on my driveway. And even that could be worse: Fulton, NY had 5 feet in a day and a half of continuous snow!!!!

Looking forward to making some time to come down to DC again this April.

  6. Hi guys,

I am not as doubtfull as you guys are. I like to believe that that is a genuine picture taken in 1958. People in those days didn't even know how to fake a picture!!!! Plus, who in the USA except us carpwackos wants to exagerate the size of the carp they caught anyway!!!

I believe it is a really large carp with a mature woman and a short guy. Remeber , so looks in het 40s so she was born around 1910-20 which means that if she is average built she would have been around 5'6". That is 66". The guy is just a shorty. Taking of a little for the height the fish is hanging above the ground and top, the fish might be around 45" or 48". That seems possible. Actually, I like to believe that those size carp did and still do exist. That gives us all something to look forward too.

Optimistic and still believing in the good of people

  7. Hi Bill,

With regards to carpaddict's post, I had a similar but different experience. All fish on the left rod on pop up pinapple boilies. After 10 fish or so I swapped the middle (pop up fieldcorn) and left rod and for sure, all fish were coming on the middle rod. none on the right rod.

I guess all the fish were coming in from the left, but the bait was more important to them than the location.

  8. HI Guys,

Karl must be a really big guy (Dave M size) because the fish don't look to big to me. But I am really jealous because I have not caught any 30+ this year :D:D:D

I think we need to start hiring midgets so that a 20 looks like it is 50!!!!!!! (actually, does anyone know that Steven Wright joke?????)
