  1. Thats to funny Larry.

That 23'9 male I caught on Saturday was super thin. If someone starts feeding that thing it will be a 40 in no time.

It was a great fishing weekend and the first time I broke 100lbs in a day of league fishing. Larry and Tracy really put on some amazing carping to watch, its not every day you see people pulling rods in a money tournament to take a little break.

  2. For those of you taking kids out for this years TAKC I would encourage you to take a few minutes to see if your state has a Jr awards program. Illinois has a program to make certificates for juniors (under 16) who catch their first fish (in the state of IL). It is simple to do and I know my niece liked hers when I made it after her first fish. Maybe we could even design a template for first carp.

For Illnois anglers the form can be found here and I have included the description below http://www.ifishillinois.org/awards/fish_awards.html

A JUNIOR ANGLER AWARD certificate is available for download from this website to an angler under 16 years of age who catches their first Illinois fish. Award certificates for successful anglers may be printed directly from this website.(Type your personal info on certificate prior to printing.) Download powerpoint file and edit to replace junior angler photo with your junior anglers picture before printing.

  3. Hello All,

I guess I missed this thread the first time around so I will jump in now. My name is Rob Gutierrez and I live on the near southside of Chicago (Bridgeport). I have live in Chicago for 7 years now but am originally from just across the stateline in Northwest Indiana (the lost suburbs of Chicago). I am currently completing my PhD in Community Psychology at DePaul University and am an instructor in the Psychology department.

I have been fishing for about 10 years now. Origianlly, I fished mostly for panfish and for salmon during the Fall and Spring runs. When I moved to the Southside of Chicago I started looking for local opportunities to fish. The nearby bodies of water provided lots of opportunities for carp and catfish but I was not very successful. In searching the local internet boards I stumbled upon posts from some CAG members including Tracy's (Chibigtee)posts about the Windy City Carp League.

I began haunting the CAG boards in order to learn the basics of carp angling and some local information about when and where to fish. I was somewhat reluctant to try my hand at a tournament but Tracy reasured me via email that I was welcome to try and even offered to lend me some equipment. Armed with the information in the beginners guides on this site and a quick trip out to Wacker Baits for some pretied hair rigs, a couple feeders, a pot of pips, and a bag of Buckeye blend I was ready to try my hand at competitive carping.

When I arrived at the match I was very reasured by how welcoming everyone was. People were very willing to share information and quick to lend a helping hand. My goal for the day was to catch one nice fish (which at the time I probably defined as 10 lbs plus) low and behold a few hours into the tournament my reel started spinning and I struck the fish on my salmon noodling rod. After 15 minutes or so of putting more bend in a rod than I had ever done I saw a fish that completely outdid even my wildest expecations. As it was loaded onto the scale I couldnt believe my eyes when it hit 27 lbs even. Honestly I was hooked on carping that very moment but the day wasnt over. I eventually landed a 22 and 16lb fish and the icing on the cake was I took home the second place prize for the day.

Over the next year I managed to build up my carp gear and learn some of the funamentals of carping. Suprising as it might be (especially to me) I ended up placing second in the league that year and came very close to winning. While I have recently have had a hard time balancing my schedule and my fishing I am hoping that this year will include a good amount of fishing and a few big fish.

  4. What with Karate tournaments and beach bum aunts it was hard to fanagle a few hours of fishing with my niece during the TAKC weekend. Saturday was an out of state karate tournament but I was told I could have my niece Naxheily all day Sunday. I didn't account for my wifes obsessive (I should talk) love of the beach. After a day of swimming and a trip to the ice cream shop I thought my chances were shot, but Naxhiely said it was time to go fishing and my wife certainly can't say no to her (thats how she ended up with M&Ms on top of her ice cream cone).

Luckily Naxhiely is an old pro at whip fishing so we had her set up in no time.

No monsters were caught and (unusual for thois venue) no mirrors were caught. Several small carp and bluegills did get tricked by Naxhiely's maggots however. Each one was caught, held lovingly, named, and released.

  5. I don't know why a third capture (I think) of a fish would be considered to be a problem. How many days, weeks does it take for paylake fish to be caught three times?

Also while as I much of the world it is constantly under attack you will be glad to know that mexicans also have the right to freedoom of speech as garuanteed by article 6 of the constitution of 1917.

    Good luck Mario.

  6. While I intelectually am not a fan of bowfishing I generally take live and let live approach to their antics.

That being said I do not think that it is a particulalry safe practice to allow the firing of a weapon near groups of people. I am suprised there are not regulations on how close to shore bowfishers are allowed to shoot.

I watched some film of a ring of bowhunter boats shooting approximately horizontal to the water at jumping silver carp. Seemed like a dangerous proposition.
