  1. A business trip out to OK last week allowed me an opportunity to catch my first small mouth buffalo.

David Moore from BCT kindly helped me in my endeavor and the result was this 33.04 - my first buff!

6 more over twenty pounds followed including a 31.08

Great fishing, great company and a lot of fun!

  2. Yeah I guess some of the content was a bit sensitive in regards to how a record has to be claimed and a shame it is. Hopefully the MA DOF will recognize carp like they do in CT. I just miss the local reports, its been a while.....

It's only marginally better here... bow 'fishing' is still legal in CT.

  3. CT Outfitters of Wethersfield will be hosting a 'bankside' introduction to Carp Fishing.

    When: Sunday May 6th.

Location: Batterson Pond, near New Britain CT

    From: 11am till dusk.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about how to catch these great sport fish and the proper care for releasing them back unharmed.

Experienced anglers are also welcome to help introduce newcomers to the sport..

Please PM me for further details and to let me know who can attend.

  4. Great story Brid...

Many years ago a mate and myself traveled to Ireland to fish and found a remote peninsula on a Loch where we set up camp and got into some serious bream fishing for a couple of days. The weather was unusually warm so we sat in our underwear catching fish and soaking up the rays. Suddenly out of nowhere (and I mean nowhere since we were over a mile down an old farm track) emerged several nuns who took a remarkable interest in our fishing & chatted to us for almost an hour!

  5. Here are some great reasons to add some imitation plastic baits to your kit...

    - On their own over method or pack mixes they make an ideal 'pick-up'

    - Especially with soft baits or boilie pop-ups they help keep the bait on the hair or the hook.

    - In combination with the real thing they can provide a balanced bait effect.

    - The bright fluorescent colors of the imitation corn can be a winner for added attraction to make hook baits really stand out.

    - Bait Logic offer two convenient sized boxes holding a selection of Mimik imitation baits

Each box offers a selection of Critical (neutral buoyancy) & Pop-Up Corn plus imitation Pellets, Tiger Nuts, Chum Mixer and Maize, while the large box has more Corn color choices plus fluoro Maggots and an incredibly realistic Floating Bread imitation.

Great Savings! - Not only will you save on real bait but the Box selections of Mimiks also represent a saving of nearly 20 - 25% over individual packs plus you get the handy compartment box free!

  6. Nothing like a productive baiting program...

Back in the same swim again this afternoon from 3pm - 7:30pm. Total of 6 runs, landed 3 mid teens, a 20.04 (lost another fish on a cut off on snag while the twenty was in the net) and rounded off the session with this 30:14

  7. The fun continues...

Another afternoon session today produced a couple of high teens, this 28.08 and beautiful golden common of around 8-10lb as I was packing up.

K-1 Fruit Peach Wafters or Tutti-Frutti Pop-Ups continue to do the business.

BTW - this is a classic early season swim... a shallow gravel bar less than 5' deep that catches the late morning and afternoon sun. The water temp (measured off the lead) was almost 54F and then dropped to 50.5 as dusk approached. This was despite a very brisk 16-20 mph wind from the NNW and air temps in the low to mid fifties.

Also saw a group of house or sand martins flying overhead - earliest sighting yet!

  8. After blanking the first two sessions (except for catching over 40 odd chub on float fished corn) it was quite a relief to land my first carp of the 2012 season...

I've been baiting up a new swim with a mix of K-1 Tutti Frutti and Fruity Peach boilies for the past three days and was eager to give it a try.

Soon after arriving mid afternoon I was into a 15+ then shortly afterward a cracking 30.10 before rounding out the session with a 27.14. Well pleased!

  9. Forgot to say that Mr Sarkozy will announce today the long-awaited reunification of France and Quebec.

    Mon ami,

Just remember that Canada is still part of the Commonwealth.... and the Quebecois have always been troublesome. I'm sure any reunification by Sarkozy will be to reinstate proper use of the French language.

    A beintot!

  10. Would you believe that the USA once led the carp world in innovative tackle?

In Leslie P. Thompson's book "Fishing in New England" he devotes a chapter to carp fishing on the Charles River and other MA waters in the 1940's.

Perhaps more remarkably he describes several ingenious ways of baiting a swim a long range...

    1. Encasing grains of corn in a ball of sand or clay.

    2. Wrapping them in tissue paper and attaching to the hook so the tissue paper dissolves in the water around the hook (bit like PVA - eh?)

    3. Making a container that can be cast out to the desired spot... in this case the container is designed to sink and the perforated base allows the corn to be flushed out as it sinks. He describes the outcome " And the pattern on the river floor? Perfect! - not too large, not too small and of even distribution."

So in September 1944 was this the first spod?
