Its worth noting some of the key elements of a cold front...
Sudden temperature drop, gusty, shifting winds, change in wind direction (usually from warm, south westerly to cool, south easterly) and significant amounts of rain.
These are the elements that appear to 'shut' down the fishing as the fish move.
However cold fronts usually pass quickly. As the cold front moves through fish will usually seek areas that remain warmer and more sheltered (the lee of an island or deeper water). After its passed the wind will usually move back to a NW or W wind and this is the time to fish into the wind.

About 25 people attended the seminar at Connecticut Outfitters last night and about half were looking to start carp fishing for the first time
Gary the owner of Connecticut Outfitters is starting to carry more tackle and bait and will be organizing a carp 'fish-in' in early May - so stay tuned!
CAG membership brochures were handed out to everyone and hopefully we will have some new faces showing up on the forum.
-
I'll have CAG membership sign ups available!

Iain Sorrell introduces Monster Carp at CTO.
Make plans to check out this presentation by one of CT's premiere Carp Trophy Anglers, Iain Sorrell.
European Carp Angling is growing at an immense pace in the states right now, and there is plenty of good reason.
These monsters fight like no other freshwater fish, are abundant, and can be caught using a wide variety of techniques and tackle. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to learn from a real pro.
This Thursday, 3/22 at 7pm at CT-Outfitters, Wethersfield CT. IT'S FREE to attend! Stop in to sign up or call the store at 860-571-8986. http://www.ct-outfitters.com

The new mini Spomb will be available in the next couple of weeks!
About 1/4 the capacity of the original Spomb the mini spomb can easily be cast on any regular carp rod capable of throwing a 3oz lead.
Just like its big brother the mini spomb can be loaded with boilies (up to fifteen 15mm) or any other chum material - either wet or dry.
Spombs are simple to use... just Load, Close, Cast & Retrieve!
Unlike spods the Spomb will not lose material mid flight and can be retrieved instantly without waiting for it to empty.
Retail price in North America is $16.95 but order yours now for a special introductory offer of only $14.95
Order now from Big Carp Tackle, Carp Kit International, Resistance Tackle and Wacker Bait & Tackle

And remember these are just two of about 6 or 7 shows in the UK...
-
Delkim have added a range of colored hard cases to their range...
At only $8.99 each they will certainly brighten up your alarms and make it easier to determine the LED color when setting up.
They should be available from North American dealers by the end of March.
Note: Delkim Txi and Standard Plus alarms already come with a standard black hard case as standard.

I'm just back from visiting the Carpin' On and Big One shows in the UK.
I've posted a photo 'tour' of both shows on my Facebook page (see links below).
The Carpin' On show at Five Lakes in deepest Essex might have drawn smaller crowds but made up for it with a central slide show and interview area. There were plenty of the leading names in the carp world around with excellent presentations from the likes of Terry Hearn, Kevin Nash and Danny Fairbrass. Rod Hutchinson, Tim Paisley, Chris Ball, Julian Cundiff and Frank Warwick among many others were kept busy answering questions, autographing books and demonstrating rigs and baits. http://www.facebook....12189707&type=3
The Big One is well named and while carp stands dominated it also includes Match, Coarse and Sea Angling. It takes place on the outskirts of the Farnborough Aerospace site and is easy to reach just off the M25 and M3 motorways to the South West of London. What the show lacked in big names (although several were on hand including John Wilson and Ian Chillcot) compared to Carpin' On it made up for in crowds... A simply staggering number came through the doors on Saturday with the stands busy selling tackle from 8:30am until it closed at 5pm. Sunday was only a little quieter! http://www.facebook....12189707&type=3
An exhausting 10 days - including losing my voice which made talking to prospective dealers and customer hard work. The Saxon hexalite rods received a great reception with people commenting very positively on the performance of the blank and innovative features such as the six + tip ring configuration and even the butt design. In fact it was even the top selling rod in the $200 + range on a couple of stands.

Same, wonder if they will put up the Carp if we manage to win. So many haters out there still, ya know?
Probably not but it might wake a few people up if we get plenty of votes!
-
The GoFishn Facebook page is asking members to choose which fish species they should picture on their title page...
We might not manage to get carp chosen but we can certainly elevate it in anglers perceptions by voting.
I've started by adding carp to the list so just follow the link and vote as soon as you can!

It is with much sadness that Nigel Griffin has received confirmation that carp guiding legend Bernie Haines has indeed passed away.
Bernie releasing a 43+
Born in Sussex, England Bernie operated a carp guiding service in Massena NY on the St Lawrence river from 1989 until 2006.
He was an absolute legend both in North America and Europe.
We'll pass on more details as they become available and in the meantime enjoy this write up from way back in 1996

Another great video!
The fish hovering for 12-15 seconds is fascinating... just when you think you've seen it all there is still more to watching and learning.

One of his friends told me he had died about a month ago
Are you sure?????
I just contacted Nigel Griffin who heard from Bernie about 2 weeks ago... let's hope any news of his demise is grossly exaggerated!
-
Scott puts on an excellent show - sorry I can't make this years event.
-
Never did a Delkim alarm sound so sweet...
-
Exceptional capture - well done!

In matches on the pole, the more pressure the harder the grass carp will fight.
I think the grass carp can feel pain thier lips.
Don't think so matey...
-
Grassers in my experience can either fight to the death (usually when they get into the net...) or give up the ghost within a couple of minutes. But then so can regular carp.
This 50+ gave me a work out for a couple of minutes before coming in relatively easily.

Mario's article offers some excellent insight and advice if you go 100% boilie.
I've also done well over the years with boilies popped-up over a bed of maize.
I would not worry too much about the carp getting over fed but once the fish are feeding confidently I do like to gradually minimize the amount of maize going in to make the fish feed more competitively on the boilies.

06001 - it finally made here today... Nice one!
New - Mini Spomb!
in Commercial Corner
Posted
Mini Spombs will be in stock and ready to ship from our dealers by the end of this week... Appreciate everyone's patience!
Brilliant bit of kit - loaded one up with boilies and at 3oz it cast a mile (OK - well over 120yds) on a 3.25 test curve rod. Weighs a bit more with a wet mix.
