  1. As I'm posting pictures today, I thought that I'd post this one on behalf of Markus. We went fishing the other day and he had this upper 30 (they are high, these German commons...). Some of you may know him from Town Lake two years ago.

And as I was not quite as lucky (or skilled) as Markus, I had to contend with taking pictures of my setup...

    Cheers to all,

  2. Was your camera set to something like long-time flash exposure? When the flash was off already, and the shutter still open, you moved slightly both your body and the fish, and thus obscured the background in those areas.

Scott, with your explanation, the flash would have to be below the camera because the shadow is above the fish head. Secondly, why then would the color there be different than the sky, where no flash would ever hit anything to illumnate (sky is a bit too high for most flash units...).

Here is a picture where the "Scott effect" applies indeed:

Unknown weight, caught last week in Germany. Picture taken in almost pitch black night with an exposure time of 6 seconds...

    Cheers to all,

  3. The last time I fished the Walter E. Long was six years ago, so no up-to-date info on that. There's a convenient spot on the dam side, though, sort of a little peninsula with good depth around it. And then there's a powerplant at the far end, which I had not tried out. Go for it...!

Wish I could have made it to Texas this spring, but priorities had to be a little different this time. Maybe next year?

Best of luck to all of you! And a lot of fun.

  4. Hello all!

Finally managed a bit of fishing over here in Germany again, and after oh so many commons in the US (actually, just one US mirror in total for me, that being from Lake Michigan), I was pleased to land a few mirrors again.

First of the session was this immaculate low-20:

And then, after some midnight commotion, I was lucky enough to pull this beautiful mid-30 over the rim of my landing net. Caught it under an overhanging bush on the opposite bank on three tiny Solar pop-ups, after seeing the fish jump and without any further groundbait:

Hope all are well & good fishing to you!

  5. yes, buster, a wild 81 pounder is much, but muuuch harder to catch than a highly educated 81 pounder from a paylake.

The reason: You will have to find that fish first, whereas you already know where it is when you travel to your paylake. Carp fishing begins when you leave the house, and start driving, and flying, and looking around into remote places of this world to see where those big fish may be found. Flinging a boilie at its nose, once found, is admittedly the easier part.

  6. Especially Halfmoon would have been a hell of a catch...

Apart from that though, top fish well over 60lbs, a scenery that comes close to paradise, and an awesome amount of 40lbs+ fish - what more can you ask for?

Now that I am back in Europe, it is only a matter of time when I will pay another visit to Cassien. Belgocarp, indeed maybe we'll see each other out there someday. Unfortunately, my "maitre de cuisine" is living (and fishing) in Australia now, so that all I might be able to invite you to is pasta...

Well, Scott, I don't know if any of the Americans has ever fished it, let alone had a good fish out of there. You might be the first if you hurry up a bit...
