  1. And for those of you who wonder where the he** Montrose is: Here a picture I have taken from Chicago's Hancock Tower. Montrose is right at the second horseshoe you see on that picture. But I'm sure you could catch decent carp anywhere along Chicago's shoreline - it's a great city (not only) for carp fishing...!!!

  2. After Jerome's great catch from Montrose Harbor (congratulations again!), I thought I'd pull out a few of my old pictures from that fine spot.

I have been fishing that place on and off since I started fishing in the US last year. After all, it's only 5min from my apartment, so it doesn't get much easier than that.

  3. Tony/Keith -

Very interesting, thanks for the perspective.

Choice of camera will obviously depend on your goal. If you want to make large prints, the resolution offered by digital cameras will likely not be sufficient.

On the other hand, one factor not be neglected is cost. While digital cameras seem expensive at first, their cost will amortize quickly. 30 rolls of Velvia? - That's got to be $500 for the rolls and developing. Assuming you have your computer gear already in order, digital will save you a lot of money very quickly. I know that you, Tony, may want to go for the best result possible, but for other people, the cost compromise would be an important factor to consider.

Also, with a digitial SLR one may be more inclined to experiment and end up with better shots just because you take more pictures. Just a side-thought...

At any rate, Tony, keep posting those pictures! Absolutely great stuff.

  4. Tony -

    Greatest fishing pictures around!

Very interesting is also your photographic advice.

One quick question: Taking slide film seems cumbersome, particularly with the scanning involved. What do you think of the high-end digital cameras (e.g., Nikon D70)? You can use all the lenses and still have full control over exposure etc.

    Thanks for your opinion!

  5. Will poke around once more in South America for a month or so next January, mainly Southern Cone. I've been toying with this SA idea for a while, and a little pilot trip may be in order.

Payara, I've run into the same issue, there is very little readily available information on the subject.

Let's see, maybe a longer trip is in order later on...
