  1. I have not posted on here in many years. I recently have been able to get back into fishing after a 5 year break. I was fishing at burr oak lake a week ago. I asked a man who was running the marina if there were any carp in the lake. He said he personally weighed a carp that was shot by a bow fisher that was 68lbs. Might be a lake worth fishing. I saw common carp, but could not catch any. Must have forgot how to do it. Still looking for my first this year. Good luck! And post a picture if you catch the record.

  2. If you were fishing from a walled bank, are you fishing from private property?  Shoud  you need or get permission for that? Or is this a public park?

    Just curious.

It is public property. Do not have to get permission to be there. There are many parks along the river that are all the same as far as the walls. I always have seen some large carp, but did not know how to catch them and land them. I am going to give it a serious try this year. It is really fun to see them go after the bait.

  3. I went out on the river yesterday. It was kind of slow and I decided to look around there is plenty of sections of the river that I fish, that has walls that line the bank of the river. I walked along one of these walls and notice some carp just hanging out. So I threw some sweet corn over then and instantly thought that was a dumb Idea. The carp were instantly scared away, which is no real surprise. A little further down more carp, some of which were pretty small. So I threw a slice of bread that I shreaded over these. The bread floated and the fish payed no attention to eating it. So I tried a peice of bread flake. First fish takes it off the hook no problem. The fish start to move around more, just kind of pacing along the edge. So I get more bread and place it in front of the largest carp I see him swim over to it real quick. I think He has it in his mouth and swing the pole. No fish. Third attempt, I put the bread on just right and get in front of the carp. I dropped it down just right. The bread sinks, then rises slightly. The carp jumps on it quickly, I set the hook and the drag was screams out for a short run. I end up landing a 10lber. Not a large fish for the river i fish, but the largest of a dozen that I happened to see at that moment, needless to say all the other fish, got the heck out of there. I really enjoy this method, since it allowed me to target the largest fish and I was able to sight fish for them. Also it allowed me to see a fish in the water and guess approximate weight and actually weight the fish to see how close I was. I am now sure that I have seen at least 30lb fish and I would not be surprised if they are slightly larger in here. I really need to get a drop net though, because some of the walls are 20feet tall or more. I really hope to try this method of fishing out more in the future.

    Later,

  4. I would like to take this moment and share with everyone my story. I only recently joined cag earlier this year. My story about how I have started fishing for carp started because of 1 man. That man is Bob Bernoski, I hope I spelled that correctly, also known as Buckeye Bob. Any way I went to my first fish-in two seasons ago. I met Bob and fishing with him in a constant wind with quite a bit of rain. It was quite cold that day. However, my entire fishing mind was enlightened quite a bit. Bob shared with me his passion for pursuing carp and quite a few tips as to how to get started in carp fishing. His sincere passion and free ideas really hooked me into this type of fishing. I really only target carp anymore these days. I really like the challenge and along the way I have been able to meet many great people. For this I am truely greatful. This past season I was unable to make it out much past the beginning of june, so when this year came around I decided to try to make a real effort to try to get out and fish more this year. I have spent quite a few hours before I even landed a single fish this year. I think it would be approximately 40 hours before the first fish was even landed. I still had a great time trying to figure out new areas and some old ones as well. I have fishing lakes and rivers in search of fish that were hungry. I am also very greatful for this web site. I have been able to learn alot and ask a lot of questions. I hope that my passion for fishing for carp will last the rest of my life time. I really hope to continue to meet new people along the way. I am planning on fishing the cagi this month in columbus. I hope to meet some more people from this website.

Here are a few fish that I have been fortunate enough to land this year. They are no where near the size of fish that many of you guys have landed, but I am pretty excited about them. I hope to continue chasing them.

    the first weighed 17lbs.

  5. I just signed up using paypal for a paperless 1 year membership. I am a new member, never have joined before. I had my mailing address, but forgot to put my email address so I could recieve the pdf version of the magazine. How do I get that to you guys without putting my email address on the public forum?

    Thanks

    Marc
