  1. Looks like Waddington might take home the grand prize. There is some time left however, will you help them solidify the lead? ;)

All right, carp anglers! Looks like "World's Carp Capital" is also the Ultimate Fishing Town USA!

    TWO BIG BUTS!

    (1) Its not over yet! The trout people may have a trick up their sleeve. ?? So, votes votes votes are what we need. Let's make this a decisive win!

    (2) When the voting closes tomorrow at 6PM EST, we may be in the lead, but that doesn't mean we "won." The results are not official.

WFN takes the next 7 days and goes over the votes "with a fine-toothed comb." (their words) They look for bogus email addresses, foreign votes, and anything else out of the ordinary that doesn't look like it adheres to the official rules. Meaning: our vote tally at 6PM tomorrow, may not be what we end up with.

So, we need more votes! We need a big buffer to compensate for any votes that may be thrown out. Therefore, please see "BUT #1."

If you are in the USA, please, take 2 minutes to visit the voting site and cast a vote for Waddington!

Winners will be announced no later than June 6. We are having a party no matter what place we get. Feel free to join us!

  2. Still trading places with Trout Town for first place... Only 9 days left in the competition. Would be nice to get a decisive lead and keep it.

Still looking for more voters. Click the link, vote, go to your email account, look for email from WFN or UFT, click link to verify your email address, then forward your name and email address to uft13694@gmail.com and I will vote the rest of the time for you.

You aren't going to let a trout beat a carp, are you? Don't take this lying down!

  3. Hey!!

I stuck up for you guys and gals for whom carp fishing is your way of life! Some newspaper in Alaska was trashing on carp fishing. Return the favor and show us some love and vote for Waddington...you will be validating the sport of carp angling. Here's the blurb:

PATHETIC . . . Homer and Seward both made it into the finals of the World Fishing Network's "Ultimate Fishing Town USA" competition mentioned here a few weeks ago. So now they're among 20 towns vying for the title and $25,000 plus lots of tourist-attracting publicity.

But here's the deal: Some godforsaken place in New York called Waddington got more than 30,000 votes to Homer's 5,700 and Seward's 4,900. How sad is that? Waddington bills itself as "Carp Capital of the World." Carp? They must be joking. Are carp even real fish? Grilled carp? Smoked carp? Yeech. Death to carp!

Darlings, we must stop this outrage.

    Here's My response and follow-up:

If you knew anything at all about fishing, Alaska Ear, you'd know that carp are the world's most popular game fish. They aren't fished for food. They are fished for fun and the challenge. The fish are caught, and then released back into the river. Anglers from all over the world come to the St. Lawrence River and our "godforsaken" town of Waddington. And they spend 10s of thousands of dollars in fishing equipment and travel expenses--per angler--to fish our waters. And we aren't all about carp, anyway. We have almost any type of freshwater game fish you'd want, and if you're hungry, we've got the pan fish, too. Broaden your horizons, AE...its amazing what goes on outside of your frozen tundra. And if you want to throw barbs, here's one: America's most popular game fish, the largemouth bass, is found in every state. Except Alaska.

.... and just to clarify..some people do fish carp for food. but for most anglers, carp are revered as the hardest fighting freshwater game fish. don't knock it til you try it. :)

If there are particular time blocks when you just can't vote, please send the "proxy permission message" in an email, along with your actual name and all verified email addresses to : uft13694@gmail.com and I will vote for you! Don't forget to let me know which blocks I should be voting in for you.

Thank you! We are down, but not out by any means. If we had only 10% of the 4,000+ registered members on this forum vote, that would just about pull us even!

    :yourock::D

  7. Not good skills to only allow US votes, if it's 'truly' a fishing town it will attract international visitors.....

aaahhhh....don't get me started! LOL if we had all of supporters from Europe, it would be a "sit down, shut up" kind of situation. alas, this is on our backs. the best way for non-US supporters to help is to contact all of your American cohorts, tell them about the competition and get them to vote 4 times, every day, per email address for the next three weeks..

  8. We were just overtaken by Trout Town ... this is a 3 week long voting battle... there's plenty of time to move up and down, but what got us the wiin inthe first round was getting out strong in the beginning and never looking back. it will not be that easy this time.

We can utilize "proxy voting" to maximize our votes.

If you have voted once and verified your email address as per the instructions, copy and paste the below message, along with all email addresses you wish for me to use, into an email and send it to me at: uft13694@gmail.com. I do not need any passwords or anything else besides the email address, so your personal information is secure.

Please let this email serve as my official permission for a representative of the Waddington Chamber of Commerce to vote for Waddington, NY on my behalf in the Ultimate Fishing Town USA contest which runs until May 31, 2011.

  9. Ok guys, CAG is fully behind this. Please help out by voting as per Deanna´s (stlawrencerivergal) instructions. Let me repeat that foreign votes (non US) unfortunately get thrown out!

If Waddington wins, it means automatically a major publicity boost for carp angling as well as CAG in the US. Let's get them to the top guys!

    Thanks, Mario!

Can we get this post moved somewhere more conspicuous?

  10. Waddington, NY...on the banks of the mighty St. Lawrence River, is nicknamed the "World's Carp Capital."

    Vote Waddington

We have been competing in World Fishing Network's competition to be crowned the Ultimate Fishing Town USA. A small town of around only 2000 people, Waddington beat out every other town and city in the entire nation with almost 30,000 votes in the preliminary voting round. We are the only town out of the Top 20 finalists that is actively seeking this title as a carp fishing town.

Round 2, the Finals, starts today. And we need your help. We expect stiff competition from Trout Town USA, also in NY, as well as the Walleye Capital of the World in the midwest. We have before us the incredible opportunity for a town known around the world for its amazing carp fishing, but virtually unknown here in the States, to be named the Ultimate Fishing Town USA. This is also an opportunity for you to shine the national spotlight on the sport of Carp Angling. In addition to the title, the winning town nets $25,000 to support fishing related causes, as well as a television feature on the World Fishing Network.

Please join us today, May 10 at 12;01PM EST and vote for Waddington, NY as the Ultimate Fishing Town USA. This round of voting runs for 3 weeks--May 10 to May 31. Much like a carp tournament, this is a grueling competition, where only dedication to voting 4 times per day in each of the 4 time blocks will bring us the title.

You can vote 4 times per day, PER LEGITIMATE EMAIL address that belongs to you.

Unfortunately for our EU supporters, the competition is only open to residents of the US. (It goes by IP address--only those votes originating from the US will count.)

    Information on voting:

Each person can vote a maximum of 4 times per email address per 24 hour period. The voter will need to verify that their email address the first time they vote. The voting blocks are not flexible and are as follows:

    Voting Block One 12:01am ET / 9:01pm PT to 6:00am ET / 3:00am PT

    Voting Block Two 6:01am ET / 3:01am PT to12:00pm ET / 9:00am PT

    Voting Block Three 12:01pm ET / 9:01am PT to 6:00pm ET / 3:00pm PT

    Voting Block Four 6:01pm ET / 3:01pm PT to 12:00am ET / 9:00pm PT
