  1. i don't really like peg draws where you draw a peg and that's that either. i would much prefer a choice order type of thing whereby you draw for order of peg picking then choose your peg off the peg map. that way if you failed to catch you would only have yourself to blame. if you have 100 pegs and you have a top five, you would have to come out well down the draw to feel aggreived wheras under the current formats you could feel aggreived coming out first or last. i also advocate adding an extra ten or so free pegs that you can move into after a quick call to the organizers wouldn't go amiss either.

have spoken to big dave about this and although i would always tell him he couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery, he managed the texas event pretty well under a similar format to the above!

  2. i have thorougly enjoyed looking through this thread zachatree. great mirrors and it seems your catch record has gone through the roof the more i read. a massive well done on the fish, the effort gone in to catching them, taking all your mates and bird fishing plus that dude out of flight of the concords! nice one and keep up the hauling!

  3. i have seen quite a few crashing out the water on the st lawrence in recent years and i think they are on the way back there. i fished for them with 80 lb braid and fifty pound mono hook link with a 4lb spod rod but after looking at that don't think i would of got anywhere near hooking one.

thanks very much for posting. interesting stuff.

  4. Glad to be safe…the sun doesn’t always shine in Mexico.

Wednesday morning, José Luis (first time carper) and I left for Sugar Lake in the North of Mexico. A camera crew would film us on Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday, we started with a beautiful day: at this point, the sun was still shining, I think it was somewhere around 81°F, and we had a bit of wind from the South-East. Quickly, our camp was set up and we were off to set out markers, bait up etc.

I the night, we landed our first carp, but other than that it was pretty quiet. Only some raccoons tried to steal my boilies and kept us awake for a good part of the night. These little thieves sure can be noisy.

The next morning started out very calmly. I decided to take a swim to wake up a bit. Getting out of the water, I heard two of my Foxes screaming loudly. Unfortunately it wasn’t a double hook-up: a strong burst of wind managed to pull the line of my not too loosely set bait-runners. Hmm, where did that wind come from? I looked to the right and saw a scary black sky approaching us, but I still didn’t get the full potential of what was about to hit us.

Literally in a matter of minutes, we got hit by the worst storm I have ever seen in my life. The temperature dropped to 54 degrees within minutes. I quickly put my rods flat on the ground and ran back to get my rodpod into safety. Unfortunately I fell and broke off one of the swingers, something I didn’t realize until much later. We tried to secure the boat as well as we could and took shelter in the tent. However, due to winds up to 60-70 miles per hour, as we learned later, the waves grew to 6 feet and the shoreline moved 15 feet inwards. All of a sudden, the waves were hitting my tent and it felt as if we would be sucked right into the lake with tent and all. The anchor line of the boat just snapped off (!) and the boat was flipped over and thrown to the tent. By now, we were sitting on a stretcher with our backs to the tent trying to give some strength to the aluminum tent supports. Every now and then, a huge wave would hit the boat and slam it into our backs.

We held on like this for about 4 or 5 hours. The wind just wouldn’t let down and we tried to get some emergency weather updates. Phone signals were too weak though and the lady from 911 (we were close to the US border) couldn’t hear us well. I finally decided to go for help and after 20 minutes of walking through brushes, I got to an elevated dam from where I managed to reach a nearby motel with my cell phone. Within one hour we were finally evacuated and managed to get back to the hotel safely. We sustained substantial material damage to our gear but at least we were safe.

Next day we were back to film on the same location. I never found that swinger though…

that sounds mental and i'm glad you, your mate and the rods made it. it seems a storm has hit the video....it as no signal to my computer!

  5. Hello All,

At the end of our Ford Lake Fish-in while packing up this odd looking fella and his brother decided to nail the last 2 rods in the water.

The top fin looked to have been previously cut off by some bastid
