  1. congrats jerome on a beauty!

just a quick thought i had after catching a mirror earlier this year. it actually went two tone on the bank and then took forever to swim off.

bearing in mind this was around the spawn do you guys think these fish are always two tone or just change once you hook them through stress?

to back up my theory, i liken it to a cuttlefish or a squid that can change colour to match the background or display bright colour when threatened. any thoughts?

  2. hi guys.

i had a similar thing recently where they were very line shy. i changed to a flouro zig rig fished six inches to a foot under the surface with a long lead core leader fished slack style and had forteen screaming runs for 11 hard fighting english mirrors. bait was a d rigged dog biscuit.

hope this helps you nail em!

  3. i've seen similar things myself when fishing yourside and have had them

virtually taking my rigs out with their crossbows but those photo's are just

    repulsive.

maybe i just dont get it living in a different country where you would be

crossbowed for doing that but im not going to sit on the fence. what kind

of mentality of person would get "enjoyment" from doing that?

each to their own? no way!

i would say to the perpertrators, "get a life followed by a respectable hobby" .

ukcarpintheusa, agree, send them to the local paper.

  4. Plus, I'm sorry to say this as I know it'll come as a shock, it is only a fish. Certainly NOT something to compare burying a human being for...

lets hope he dosent decide to bury you because he could be digging for quite

    a while big man :D

  5. think that fish on the bottom might of had something called dropsy.seen goldfish doing this and it sometimes causes them to swim upside down.its to do with the swim bladder i think but not totally sure.

very interesting stuff though jerome.well done mate.

would love to try this out with my rigs to either boost or destroy my confidence!

  6. I got trapped in a rainy FL hotel for about 4 days.  Did manage to write another MidWest Outdoors article as well.  Finished "River Carping" by Neil Wayte, see report elsewhere.  Couldn't force myself to watch much TV.

I think a post like this should count as more than one toward my attaining guber status like yourself and Keith :D

brian, the first chapter on the arun is our local river! its where we are fishing this summer and also where james and my uk pb's come from!

andy skinner is one of my mates and the mirror that dave eaton is holding has fallen to james rods!

i love it down there! its as far removed from the busy uk scene as you can get.its also the second fastest flowing tidal river in the uk so a real challenge.

we used 500kg of bait in a month last year and will be giving it the biggun again this year!

liked the list but when are you going to do the double dutch cockney version :D

  7. i have finally sorted this video out.sorry i had to cut it in the middle, kind of spoils it a little but hope you all like it!

just want to say that this method actually worked better tan standard euro style!

got the fish up to te surface quick away from the rocks and stopped huge amounts of weed building up on the braid which made landing the bigger fish a nightmare.

  8. Was that a big ball of groundbait below the float?

its pv 1 colent mixed with layers pellet and calf milk.the rig is a bog standard float/leger using a method feeder and a mcf marker float thats normally used for depth finding.i used a stop knot up the line for depth with a few beads in various places to make the rig run.it was particularly useful (which i found by accident!) combating the masses of floating weed that was clogging up conventional bottom rigs making reeling the carp in a total nightmare.

  9. well aint no tutorial involved really.just decided to fish like that for a number of reasons.

me and my friends fish a rock hard place in the uk where you get so into tunnel vision with the euro style that you just need a bit of release sometime!

my brother and i did over 70 nights fishing for one fish this year and loved every minute of it! we came to the u.s for a holiday but found ourselves fishing really hard during the wcc.after we had about another eight days fishing and really hauled but it became a mission again to land large carp.still loved going for the big ones but wanted to break it up a bit.ive caught fish over twice the size of the float carp but it really put the enjoyment back into carp fishing after such a slog in the last year!

i so love that st larry!

the tactic worked extremely well as will anything if your on em!

  10. cheers guys, bit of a computer idiot when it comes to uploading files.

scott, hoped you liked it mate.have cut down the marker float and bottle bomb ready for use on here so will try and sort it out with james tonight.have fun over the festive period people.

    andrew.

  11. tried to upload a movie for you, but it just seems to sort of hang up. Tried to preview having browsed an attached but that didn't work, and when I tried to go back it posted the message without attachment. the movie is 31mb, I'm not sure if this is too big?

  12. hi all

had the pleasure of fishing next to this guy second day by the power station and he really did

keep you amused for the full twelve hours of fishing.

there were loads of local castalot bass boys down there and they were truly amazed at the carp

fishing that happened before them.we let one of them a rig to try after showing a knotless knot

and hair rig which promptly got snapped off by an angry carp trying to shake free of the5ft bass rod.phone and brian however gave him a rig that caught a 21lb fish!

amazing day and the word of carp fishing got truly spread that day although phone did 75% on that penninsula that day.

on wednesday,my brother and i got up early to fish the main lake the other side of this channel and were rewarded with some lovely 3ft long male fish between 25&30 lb fairly early.as the sun came up a group of the new converts turned up with yellow balls tied hair rig style to their bass rods saying they were going to go get a mat and a proper landing net cos they didnt want to hurt the fish.that was one of the best bits of my trip knowing people like phone, brian and the rest of you great bunch of people are spreading the word in america about how good carp fishing really is.

    thanks all of you,loved it

    andrew

p.s is there any truth in that phone fishes with euro tackle .ie rod pod and alarms when away from the atc and only uses that gear to have a laugh at the europeans?!if this is so, hes even funnier than i thought already!
