  1. good fishing with some nich fish so well done on what looks like a fun session.

.i have also found garlic to be a great bait and have put together a high leak off boilie with that and a couple of other bits to match it with great sucess. carp definitely love garlic but i always wondered how on earth i could bring kilo's of it with me from england. now i don't need to bother bringing anything so thanks to the guys who have put this together. you saved me some hassle and i might give your stuff a go when next over.

knowing this is about k1 baits to start with though, do you really need to say it is k1 baits this or that about 100 times?

  2. Steve, Thanks for the feedback. I'm probably coming down again in November so will be sure to check out Centennial Park. If I have more time it would be great to get out of the city and explore some more fishing opportunities. Cheers, Iain

sorry for the earlier post.... i didn't read all the thread.

i went to centinial park about 15 years ago now with a local that i met in the pitt st tackle shop. he was fascinated by euro freshwater fishing an offered to take me fishing in exchange for some uk floats sent over.

first off he took me to a place called yellow rock which was interesting to say the least. most dangerous place to fish the east coast of oz and he'd seen three people die there(2 into the sea and one off the climb down).whilst there, we put all or tackle on this huge rock about 30 metres back. others wern't so clever and i saw them lose their kit into the sea. it was about an 80 ft cliff descent then a swell rising and falling over rocks and ledge by about 20 feet. i caught a black fish on floatfished seaweed inbetween running for my life before he took me to centinial park after hearing of my carp fishing back in england. i saw some good ones in a couple of the lakes there and he said he'd landed 5 around 20lb in a couple of hours before but you could hardly take any tackle because of the rangers. good luck if you try it savayman.

p.s not sure if a guide called craig mcgill is still around but i watched a video of his catching kingfish from a reef in the harbour near the entrance. if he is and its the right time of year, go for it!

  3. Caught this 32lb 13oz beast on the weekend, pretty happy considering it's Winter here now. :D

glad you have come on the forum with a lowdown on the oz carp and also for those great murray cod pics. if i'm not corrected, thats the very species the carp are supposed to be killing off isn't it?

  4. Good to see some nice carp coming from 'down under'!

I travel to Sydney once or twice a year and mostly take advantage of chasing saltwater species on the fly in the harbor. Looks like next time I'll have to try some Aussie carp fishing and adding a Murray cod to the species list would be very cool as well.

Thanks for sharing those pics and keep us updated!

go to centinial park with a loaf of bread and a telescopic!

keep an eye out for the park rangers though!

i am so pleased for you even though i don't know you. you must be absolutely on cloud nine.

as the thread says.... a fish of a lifetime not only for you but for the history of american carp fishing. and from a river too!

again massive congratulations. live the memory and who knows there might be another one down there.

would be interested to hear what bait you got it on. not too specific other than whether it was a boilie and if so, whether it was fishmeal based.

  6. kidney beans?

well done or catching on those.

i used to throw all sorts of beans at carp many years ago. maple seeds yes but.... they didn't want to know when it came to kidney beans !

maybe every lake is different and it reinforces the fact that carp fishing will never be solved....but well done you on tearing up the carp fishing rules without conforming to the norm..

now go and get a load more!

    andrew

    congrats on the captures hawkwise.

  7. hi there.

i fish these a lot and use them helicopter style with the feeder on a clip at the end of the line and the hook link rotating round the main line on a rig ring. i then use a stop and a bead to prevent the rig flying up the main line to far. if you have a weedy bottom, the stop can be set at the right distance so the rig sits on the weed rather than in it. i haul on this rig! give the open ended feeder a go. you wont be disappointed.

  8. i find this fascinating although a little hard to understand. are the numbers you are stating depths? also are the rods bent right over due to being connected to down riggers?

i am intrigued because this looks like fun fishing for crazy sized trout.

  9. really like your blog and well done on the new p.b! .

it certainly brings back great memories for me of town lake.

saw you mentioned the trash build up on the lake. it's always going to happen on an urban lake. that's humanity unfortunately.

luckily our beloved carp are hardy fish and the amount of water coming through the system will always offset the toxins building up. when that place is flowing, the entire lakes water volume must go through several times a day.
