  1. As some of you may have noticed, Colin (Doughboy) hasn't been out in a while fishing for those off the Cyprinus. Him and I have talked over the past few monthes, while he was up in Bellville. We both agreed on a doing a session after school today. I was indeed happy. He picked me up and the Dream Team was on it's way for some gold. We arrived and set up. I plunked in some cattle corn, and hemp, then placed a method ball in. Colin did the same. At this point I felt very confident because the wind was blowing a gail, moving food into our swim, and turning them onto feeding. After a couple minutes, my Delk let off a few beeps, which turned into a full blooded run. Well done, a small common.

I casted in and again, the alarm beeped, the rod bounced. The fish were on the baits. I waited and waited. I noticed a few fins around the method ball, them beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. My delkim sung off again. A nice fish.

I soon recieved a call from Nick from the far bank, explaining how he got a fish. I felt good for him. I swear I could hear Sweet Child O Mine blaring from his Iphone. But after a half hour with no action, i changed my method ball. As Danny Fairbrass said, "If you think you should have had a fish already, recast" So I did. The move paid off, I soon saw fish bubbling around the bait. Then a dropback. I hammered the hookset into it, and was blessed with a 12lb Common.

Colin's rod remained quiet for an hour. As my rod began to twich I began to get excited, and anticipated a fish. But as it always goes. Those rod who bounces will not get the fish, but the patient angler with no bounce will recieve. Then BAAM, beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Colin's rod shot off along the farside margin. I felt awesome for him. His last fish was in March. A small one, but a day maker.

While the fish was swimming away, my rod bounced violently. Then took off. It felt like a nice fish, not huge, but a bigger fish of the session. With my line running over his dorsal, and his screaming runs, I became nervous. But not to worry, Colin stood with the net, coaxing the fish into the net. Yes, Come on Get in! Well chuft. 14lbs 6oz.

Thanks guys for a fun and awesome session. Cheers. Colin and I will be doing an overnighter at CCIW if anyone is interested.

  2. This one fought like a wet sock, till it was a few feet from the net.

This guy was a very interesting fish. I saw a couple tails near my bait, and then they disappeared. Within a minute, the fish began to bubble, with a few beeps from the delk. Then it dropped back, and jumped a foot out of the water. I picked up the rod and fought it for a while. Sorry for the shoddy pics.

Now it's off to Erie on Sunday. Wish me luck. Cheers.

  3. fishing braid is not very good idea... braid harms the fish and it will cut thru their fins and scales... try using a heavier fluro leader 30 40ft leader tied to your mainline... braid is one of the worst lines you can use for carp and i know that from own experience... you dont get no play on the rod... good luck

I fish a longggg piece of rig tube to prevent injury to the fish.
  4. Really depends. Here in some spots, we fish heavy heavy braid due to certain things on the bottom (sharp rocks, zebra mussels etc.) Other spots, we fish light"er" mono for (float fishing, fishing on a sand bottom, etc) So really you get what I'm trying to say. Its kinda of like "matching the hatch" I'd ask around if I were you. I like to use 12-15lb Mono, or 30-60lb braid. Cheers.

  5. The best thing is to go out and give it a try! I would imagine so, I caught one in the warm spell during March. Off the point I think would be good.
