  1. Unfortunately for me, I showed up at daybreak on Saturday, just as the bite seemed to turn off. Luckily I still managed to land 3 carp, with a catfish mixed in. Got a nice sunburn, too. It's been a tough year for me to make it to the fish-ins, so I was glad to at least get out and fish with some of you. Congrats on the big fish, Vince! Looking forward to the next outing.

Craig - we'll have to try to get together sometime. Definitely been a while

  2. Awesome fishing - thanks for sharing! I've been fishing Cowan off-and-on for 20+ years (only the last 10 or so for carp). It's been very frustrating for me as well - I see fish, know where to find fish, just can't catch fish consistently. I've only been able to fish it a couple times for a few hours each time ever since I've "refined" my tactics (i.e., figured out how to catch carp). I'd love to be able to spend a weekend there targeting carp - when I normally end up at Cowan it's to go camping with the family. Still, I've always known that Cowan had big carp and probably more potential than anywhere else in that part of the state. Glad to see it's finally putting up some big fish.

I'll have to try the chick peas out - should blend well with some of the method mixes I use.

  3. I'm headed to the Rosemont area June 13 - 16 for business and was wondering if there were any good places to target carp nearby. I'll be staying somewhere near O'Hare. I'm hoping to have a few free hours at least one of the evenings that I'll be in town - trying to decide if it's worth packing some of my tackle.

  4. I agree with Ak, the GFO/OGF site was one of the big reasons why CAG and carp fishing initially became so popular in Ohio. Fish-ins were well-attended by both carpers and non-carpers, because we had all developed a sense of community thanks to the Ohio fishing site, our great state chair at the time, and Ak's ability to motivate people to get out and go fishing.

Unfortunately - OGF isn't as carp friendly as it was in the past. I think that chased a lot of us off the site, along with some changes in management and other issues that made the site less desirable to post. I'll still get on there once in a while, and there is definitely still some interest in carp fishing from some of the members. But - too much talk of bowfishing and hatred of carp in general for most of us.

I think it's still worth a shot to post our fish-ins and fishing reports in general on the GFO. However, I think it would take someone with a lot of time, motivation, and personality to recruit interest and get things back to the way they had been in Ohio in the past.

In the meantime, the regulars will keep doing our thing and spreading the word bankside.

  5. I'm still anxiously awaiting the schedule. Wish I could make it out to the social but too much going on that day. I'm up for anything as it's been a while since I've been out. Loramie is on my list of places to check out - mostly because I've never been there and I always like to try new spots.

On a side note - ever since the regional sections went to members only the Ohio section has been kind of dead.

  6. Hey, my name is Clayton and I live in Kettering, just outside of Dayton. I've been fishing for carp for 20+ years now, but got into serious carping back in 1998 when I first learned about the Carp Anglers Group. I've fished all over Ohio and in a few other states and always enjoy fishing with other carpers whenever I've got the time.

  7. Hope to make it out to a few next year. I think East Harbor and West Branch are a must - but after that anything is game. I always like trying new places - doesn't really make much difference to me if it's a "known" big fish location, a numbers place, or just a complete unknown. I'll have to think about it and see if I come up with any other recommendations. Would like to see something on a river somewhwere.

By the way - I've fished the peninsula at Knox. Nice place to fish - didn't catch any carp but that was back in the day when i threw sweet corn on a hook and hoped for the best. Caught lots of nice LM bass, though. Could definitely hold a decent sized group - no idea what the fishing is like, though. Also - as far as I know it's the only decent spot on the lake for shore access.

  8. Vic,

Welcome to CAG. Looks like we're going to be neighbors as my family and I are moving into a house on Lincoln Park this weekend, only a couple blocks from the Fraze. Glad to hear there are some carp in that pond as I've already been itching to check it out. You'll definitely be seeing me soon.
