  1. I feel your pain. I have a lot of trouble on the highseas, or any seas for that matter! lol

Before heading out on the ocean or great lakes, I always take some Gravol and then while aboard, I never go below decks. I keep my head up with an eye to the horizon. Oh, and you always have to resist the urge to put your head down, even for a bit, to read or fiddle with bait, etc.

Hey, glad you still enjoyed the fishing even with the discomfort. Nice pics and thanks for sharing a bit of your vacation with us!

  2. Yesterday at work, I took a look at the weather forecast for today and decided to burn a vacation day to do some carping. I wanted a change of scenery this morning so I drove down the highway a bit to a swim I hadn't been to before.

A nice spot and a beauty morning.

Slung out a bit of maize at my first spot and fished a bolt rig with a little maize on a hair, but nothing happened for about an hour or maybe more. Then I went to the method feeder and flung my offering out farther and waited.. and waited.. and waited.

Waited about hour again but the bite alarm finally went off and I bested this 10lb fish.

Not huge, but I was pretty happy because it was the first fish I caught on a new Daiwa Black Widow I recently purchased.

Baited up again and waited another hour until finally hearing a single beep from the bait alarm. After an agonizing half hour of occasional beeps from the fish playing around with the feeder, it finally took the bait and I hooked into this smaller carp.

Well, it's a good thing I'm not into size or numbers because it was a pretty enjoyable morning for me for sure and I look forward to the next.

  3. Thanks for the warning, Mark. I'll keep a closer eye on her when she's standing behind me. lol

Seriously, though. Touching someone else's child like that???

To your point about angler's leaving trash and damaging plants. This is the eeeeeasiest way for the antis to make a case for closing down areas to fishing. But anglers leaving areas cleaner than we found them is the easiest way to garner support for our side.

  4. Mike was it a old lady? Wearing a hat and big sunglasses? There's a crazy ass old lady who takes care of the butterfly or thinks she does and she's always there, anyway I'd ignore her if its the same lady, she's crazy and old and harasses anyone near there fishing or not.

Yup, that's the one Dopefish905. And funny, but your suggestion to ignore her was exactly what we did. And after the short period of silence, she left.

  5. Guys, this is serious. I think the birders are organizing against anglers. Seriously!

I was fishing the Dundas canal on Sunday when a woman working at the nearby butterfly conservation area walked over to tell me about how much my fishing was disturbing 'her' birds. I thought she was kidding at first but realized that she really believed two guys quietly sitting in camping chairs fishing and admiring nature was too 'intrusive.'

So much for sharing our natural areas.

We need to be united and vigilant because, as we've seen, our fishing areas can be pull right out from under us!

  6. Good stuff. Gives me an excuse to check out the big new Walmart on Centennial down by the QEW. I've tried to do the Walmart boycott...but they have everythiiiiing!!!!!!!!!!

  7. A beauty report, Shawn, and what a beautiful fish. I will watch the video when I get home( At work now ).

Is it my imagination or do more carp come to the bank with the wind in your face? Just like fishing for other species.

  8. As a follow up, thanks to everyone who posted 'bout fishing during a cold front. My Buds and I put some of the suggestions into practice( smaller hooks, lighter leaders, smaller bait offerings, etc. )and ended up catching some fish at Olympic. Between us, we caught 5 commons in total, between 4 to 11lbs. The lesson? Never avoid fishing during a cold front because you can always adjust your presentation and, well, you just never know!

  9. Nice post again Shawn and some terrific pics there too. That one of the younger fella is a great one and reminds me of the pictures in the "Carp Fishing In Canada" book. Neat to see that fish posed face on like that.

  10. Thanks fellas. I guess I'm kinda glad to hear that although cold fronts do shut 'em down, it's still not a certainty with this crazy spring. Definately gonna give it a go with the boyz. Hooks and bait will all be downsized, and we will keep any chumming to a minimum. Hopefully we can encourage 'em to come at least peck at our offerings..

  11. Just wondering if our carp respond to cold fronts like other fish. I'm having an annual fishing get-together with some buddies tomorrow( Saturday )and the weather is gonna be cooler with rain. We can't just cancel 'cuz the guys are coming from all over so it's full steam ahead, come heck or high water.

Any techniquest to keep in mind that would up our chances on what may turn out to be 'a tough fish?'

    Thanks in advance.

  12. Thanks Jeff. I'd really like to get 4 from ya( I know a few guys that would really like 'em ). I could easily hook up with you on the water somewhere when they're in. Thanks again.
