Nice spring warm up spot Steamtripper. That's a darn good day in my books. Glad you experienced some success on your early spring outing. Thanks for the report and pics.

That's a good day in my books. Great day, actually! Some real nice specimens there, Streamtripper, and I really appreciate the photos.

Yet another reason to hate cormorants!
Nice session there Mark( other than the loss of line )with a few dandy spring fish. Congratz!
Been too busy to get out myself yet so these pics of fish are killin' me!!!!!!! lol
-
Nice job Mathew! Good way to knock the dust off the gear, eh.
Man, with fish like that, I'd forget the Grand and stay right where you are!
-
Me thinks you're right Tripper.
I've got rods rigged for Rainbows and Browns right now and conditions are perfect. But still I find that I'm more anxious for conditions to improve at my favourite carp swims! I just can't wait for the piercing sound of that bite alarm and zzzzzzzzzzzzzz of the reel drag as a carp battles for freedom at the end of my line.
Hammy Harbour is still frozen over but soon... oh so very soon.

And best wishes to you this carping season Hawkwise. As I recall, you have those nice little river swims out your way that you seem to have some very good days on.
I just placed an order with Simon at Carp Kit and am anxiously awaiting all my new toys. I'm getting a brolly to keep me sheltered from the sun a wind this year. I also ordered a roving sling so hauling my gear around from swim to swim will be easier. I also got myself a proper bank chair as well as a collapsible carp net which, again, will be easier to haul around.
Broke the budget a bit but I'm worth it! lol

Feeding bubbles at this time of year???
Good stuff Mark and a nice reward for braving the elements as you did.
Nice pics too, especially the one with the rod and float next to the carp. Sweet!

WhooooHooooooo!!!!!!!
WTG Tangled! A dandy result and very inspiring in March, none the less!!!
So it begins...

Nadda brotha.

And may you and Lorne inspire a pile of new anglers to add carp to their list of target species!
-
What a fantastic idea! Keeping it a fun and 'bragging-rights-only' competition is a great way to go as well.
My strategy will be to register a catch early, no matter the size. That way I'll have my name up there for a little while at least( lol ). I didn't exactly lite up the forum with monsters last year!
Now, if we can just get rid of all this ice cover!!!!

Gotcha on the semi-fixed inline rig, Mark. Thanks for that detailed explanation on its advantages. I find it really interesting to see how even standard presentations can be further 'tricked up.'
,,,man, always more to learn.

Thanks for that great report and pics, Mark. Gorgeous shot of the slush carp and a healthy specimen at that!
I thoroughly enjoyed it and read very slowly to make it last! Yes, living vicariously through the fishing reports here is wonderful when you can't make it out yourself.
I've yet to fish a PVA bag but that's my new years resolution to learn and ad to my arsenal for 2014.
Question. What is the strategy behind the semi-fixed bold rig?
And a Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Necessity is the mother of invention. Nice rig, Lorne. It seems to accomplish exactly what you wanted, eh.
I thought you be the first with a photo of the rare and exotic snow carp!
-
That last one reminds me a little bit of the beauty Mark caught a few weeks ago with the elongated fins, Lorne.
-
Good job Mark. That's a nice report and some beautiful fish pics to go with it!
Pretty nice when you can enjoy a day like that at this time of year. But you know, you string together a few more like that and before you know it, it's spring time again! lol
-
Way to go Mark. Nothing like a battle with a few scrappers to warm ya up on a cold day. I`m sure it won`t be long now before we see a post of the first snow carp! lol
-
Sounds like your got into a few nice commons to test your tackle there, Lorne. Glad you had a good day, just you an all the cirtters!
-
...tapping foot impatiently.

Nice to get a report from the Kawarthas, Steamtripper.
Congratulations on your fish, especially the biggies, along with the personal best. Looks like a nice camp too.
-
Unfortunately, I too am old enough to get your Winnie The Pooh reference. lol
Nice job Lorne and way to brave the elements and have some fun out there today.
I'm always amazed how carp born blind can use their other senses to survive and thrive. Incredible.
-
Thanks for the report and the details of your outstanding day today, Mark. An enjoyable read and pics to be sure!
I like your set up there, nice and comfy out of the wind under your brolly. I'll bet you woulda paid double for it on a day like today.
That fantale is incredible. Never seen anything like it.

It would be worth trying to figure out why you are getting line twist in the first place.
Assuming you have a swivel in the rig somewhere then reasons could include:
Not loading the reel correctly.
A sticky or jammed bail arm roller
A sticky bail arm roller is about the only thing I find difficult to check. I just did an on-line search about cleaning the roller. Has anyone attempted this before? I looks like I'd end up doing more harm than good if I try taking it apart. lol

Hey guys, just to let ya know, Simon at Carp Kit has just received the Spin Doctors in three sizes. I'm looking forward to receiving mine and I'm gonna have one in each of my tackle bags.
Sneak Peak...
