I fish tidal waters and lakes differently I roll bait to the fish or look for carp activity ie jumping splashing in the margins.

Yea I worked for accotink in the 2004 summer and they were draining good edible catfish into a field...ppl we're taking them home until they put no trespassing measures up.

Sadly they didn't make it. The dredging company fielded them down by the train tracks. Carp get no respect as they aren't bass... If the state lets you shoot them with a bow you really think they would even make an attempt. I've been on a few emergency nets to save koi and goldfish, but it might be illegal to release a fish from accotink into any public water. Other then accotink. Which is a shame. I'm pretty sure the seagulls feasted well at huntsmen.

Welcome... I'm the opposite never fished offshore. Try catching a smaller size fish first and be patient. Carp can put every bit of a good run. Tackle for the size of fish your after is important. Also less sea sickness!

Price has come down on most mono I think it's because of braid and flourocarbon

Yea my boss needs me the tenth ... I just spent the last few hours cleaning tackle and getting ready to fish. Headed out tommorow night and Monday morning is anyone local going out? I too would like to see a limit set on carp and cats md and to a lesser va seem to be going to war. This reminds me of captive hunting....

Wow this is alarming.... Not based on the pictures but honestly you bet on catching wild fish released into a small lake? That's a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. I've never been to a pay lake for carp, but the trout ones are catch and keep only... And the fish are farmed? Honestly I keep getting madder and madder.

I'd love to come, but I have two hangs up. The first is my time.. I'm a waste water operator. I work 42 something+ hours a week nights weekends holidays. So when everyone else is off on the weekends I'm off something like 2 weekends a month and half a year of nights... I also have the fiance and my son in maryland.. so I spend most of my time up there.... I'm only in springfield va for like work and sleep, but sometimes I do get out to fish. My only other caviat is I wouldn't be able to participate in your tournment. I would only be there to fish and enjoy the comratory. I've been fishing a "really" long time and I have "never" agreed to fish a tournment fishing is a religious thing for me and I can't seem to turn it into a contest. Also you guys would fish circles around me:) with all your bolies and popups. I will check my calander though. Its just a constent problem with my fishing buddies!

I'm thinking of caring mace with me for both animal and human interactions. I don't like firearms and I normally carry a fillet knive. I've only ever had a few choice words and weapons drawn though. The fact that he "ACTUALLY" attacked is rather bothersome. I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to relieze that people are tripping... I mean the soccer mom was in a well to do power plant park. It wasn't even in a crime area...

People often ask whats the worst thing thats happend to you while fishing? I kinda like to ask, because I get to see how popo ppl can be.
I had a guy pull a knife on me after I refused to give him the spot on the pier I'd be at all morning. Its a public pier but apprenlty he thinks its his spot.....
I had a guy show up to meet me to fish off of a website without his wallet a fishing liscenes or anything! I had to give him 5$ for gas.
I trout fish alot ..I had on two occassions got into a pissing contest with other anglers who think its ok to Either A come stand within 2 ft of you on an empty lake without asking just to catch some stocked trout. OR worse get him and his buds to cast you into a corner....
I almost got into a fight with a soccer mom over her teen age son throwing rocks at me while I was fishing. (needless to say I had a teenager with me fishing).... it got so bad I threated to call fish and game... I was in PA.
Hmmm I've had game wardens lie to me about Regulations. I had to call dispatch to check as the book said something diffrent.
I see poaching on a regular bases. Theres a trout lake in va that the guy uses 5 poles and throws out corn..... limits 1.. he filled up 4 times the legal limit.
I've seen all sorts of fish abuse... BY fish abuse I mean ppl routinly abuse them and then let them swim off... mostly younger ppl, but I've seen adults do it too...
I love to see people fish illigal be it snaggin or netting.... I used to see it a lot more...
I basically keep 3 numbers on speed dial in my phone so that if I do have a problem I can get intouch with dnr dgif or whomever. Its also not a terrible idea to keep some form of protection.. especially when fishing in areas that have crime... Wouldn't it suck to get robbed of all that nice fishing stuff... and rember its not worth your life!

One more thing fairfax county has been draining all my favorite lakes to repair the dams or control sedimentation.
The following I know have been drained in the last 5 years
Burke Lake(partially)
Huntsman(all of it)
Lake Accotink(all of it)
If you know of any can you add them to the list
Its a shame too cause hunstman and accotink were full of nice fish!

Koi are in most lakes and rivers here people dump them or storms wash em to creeks and so on.... My favorite one "someone" caught was at Lake Cook... I used to catch carp and koi while trout season was going on. That fish was a beast of koi too... I'm sadded that someone would take such a pretty fish...That fish was atleast 2-3 feet...
I've also caught a ton of gold fish...
I've even caught some unknown species... of aquarium fish... at burke lake. I don't even know how ot begin to describe some of the fish I've seen over the years!

Hi guys, I'm new the cag, but not to fishing. I've been targeting carp for a while, but until recently havn't had the time to invest in carp specific gear. My best friend growing up was from Switzerland and fairly well off. He showed me his gear and I got intrested. Later in life I met another "Carper" hes on some professional teams. I never even knew there was professional carp fishing. I just had my first kid last year and my fishing time has been cut a little short. My season is trout first ... then carp/catfish... then striped bass/catfish/ and carp also crabbing. Finally I ended with trout and carp.... then it freezes a little and I start all over again. I know some guys on the cag boards, from fishing. I fish anywhere theres water, but mostly the northern va area ... any where in md and eastern western shore salt. I also try and fish multiple long distance trips in a year....My favorite carping spot is now a hotspot for a guide who bowfishes... so I'm looking for new over night spots.... Anyone have any leads? I've fished a ton of water in the northern va area my only rule is it has to be public. I don't like when people break the rules..... I'm a catch and release fishermen 90% of the time. Troy.
