A few pics from today:

So here's my report. I started off throwing topwater and got a 25" striper and a 26" gar. Then I went to carpin. Got 2. The biggest was 29.25". My packbait didn't work as well as I had hoped. I am fishing in a kayak but even anchored, I was swaying and felt like the hook was being drug thru and out of the chum pile. So I just fished bare corn on a carolina rig. The one thing different that I did this time was to throw out a bunch of chum (corn). That seemed to be the difference in catching this time and not the last. Ran out of corn so I went and caught a bream to use as cut bait and got three more gar up to 40". Next time I'm bringing a lot more corn.

Thanks Alex. I will bring a can of corn to try as hook bait also. If the action is good, I'll be sure to post up a report.

Awesome, thanks man. I got your pm and am heading out bright and early in the morning to give it a try. I think it was one of your posts on ncangler referencing this site actually that led me here.
Thanks again

I am new to carp fishing and have what may be a stupid question. I found a spot on a river with a ton of carp and tried to catch them with corn and bread both on the bottom and under a cork and no luck. I wasn't using any fancy rigs and wasn't chumming.
So I did a bit of research, and I want to go try and catch some of them using packbait but my question is, will the current in the river just sweep the packbait downstream once it breaks up and just leave the corn pop all by itself? This section of river is below a dam and has moderate flow. If using packbait in a river isn't a good idea, does anyone have any other suggestions for a beginner?
Thanks

Thanks for the idea CC. I may have to try that.
