  1. I'm in Canada as well. These pics were taked a couple of months ago when the weeds weren't as bad, close to shore they're all submedged so from far you wouldn't see them, I dot know how deep it is in the middle or how long the weeds are there. Last couple of times I was there the visability wasn't very good probably due to the weeds, they are more like slimy grass that bend under the surface rather has ones with strong stems like I've seen at other places.

  2. I'm still learning a lot of the carp fishing terms so please bear with me...surface baits does that mean throw out some bread as chum and than cast out the baited hook? wouldn't the hook just sink? also do I put the ball of bead on the hook or use hair rig set up?
  3. Here are some pics I took earlier with my cellphone (couple different times). They dont show the weeds well unfortunatelly. You cant seen them well unless you are close are look in the water. As you can tell it's not the prettiest place to fish or the cleanest, as you can see in the last the last pics. I only go there because of the huge carp that are in there.

  4. It's more of a channal now; maybe 25m wide, but it used to be a basin leading into a larger body of water, there seem to be barrier so I think the fish are trapped in there and there are a lot of them (carp). I cant tell how deep it is in the middle (could be pretty deap). The fish I've seen before were several feet from the bank but I've seen them jumping out thruout. I've fished anywhere from 5 to 24 ft from shore. it's usually pretty murky there and where I could see the weeds are inches from the top some of them are few feet tall and I've seen carp swrimming right thru them.

  5. I'm also new to carp fishing but have a few under my belt, including 2 from an inflatable... I'd say maybe post a pic of your rig, and maybe someone will be able see something you're missing.

  6. So far I've been using corn but sometimes when things are slow I'd rather be casting some lures instead of just sitting and wating. So I was wondering if anyone had any luck with lures? On Mepps site they list a few spinners under lure guide for carp but dont know if I believe that they work.

  7. Several times including today I was fishing at a spot where that seems to be full of carp, including some rather large ones. One time when the water was clear I saw many of them swimming around including a monster about 3.5-4ft long, today it was murky but I saw about a dozen of them jump out in a couple of hours I was there. Unfortunatelly I've never caught any fish at that spot (I'm new to carp fishing and only got a few of them).

I think what's been standing in my way are the (slimy) weeds at the bottom, they seem to be pretty tall and I figured my rig probably gets burried in them esp if I use a heavy sinker that people use with hair rigs. Whats the best way to overcome this?

  8. There are a lot of weeds because of the time of year, it wasn't like that a month ago even. One of the spots has a high bank so I can see them well, and seems like thats where the carp like to hang out - in or around the weeds, there are clear spots too but I didn't see a lot of carp in the clears.

  9. Here is a suggestion. Go to the Ontario section and introduce yourself. You will find lots of anglers willing to help. Come out and fish with us and you will get hands on knowledge on how to catch carp.
There's an ontario section here?? I'll make sure to check it out then! Already got some oats and creamed corn today so will try the packbait next time, and I would love to go fishing with someone and learn a thing or two.
I hate to hear you've spent a load of cash on gear. Carp don't care much about your gear, instead, they live to eat/eat to live. It's all about the bait m8. Spend your time learning about bait/ Packbait. You can catch carp on a hand line with a good packbait.

    Regards

    Tom.

ps. leave braid for the Euro guys. Mono all the way.

My gear is for other fish pretty much (pike, bass etc). I'll use bait for carp...I have 2 reels with 20 and 30lb PowerPro braids, I staretd with 12lb mono line and have to say I like braid a lot better - much more sensitive. I am from Europe originally tho. :icon_smoking:
  10. Thanks I've never heard of the method mix before. So you mix oats and creamed corn and do I add water to make it stick?

I dont mind waing for a bite as long it actually happens, it just gets pretty frastrating when I spand a lot of time and nothing happens.

  11. I'm a catch and release guy all the way, no intention of keeping any carp I catch (can you even eat them? lol). I dont really need tips on spots since I already know a few, just basic techniques that are proven to work well.

I have some questions, hope someone can answer.

-How small/large of a hook do I need? esp if there is a chance to catch larger fish.

    - is the invisibility of the line important or not so much?

    - what weight of line would you use for the hair rig?

    - woud a heavy mono hair rig be a bad idea (with a braided mainline)?

    Thanks.

  12. Hello everyone, it's my first post here. I started fishing in the begining of the summer and in the few month I have spent quite a lof ot money on rods, reels and lures. Even got an inflatable boat and fitted it with a trolling motor!

Anyways I like fishing for pike mostly but latey got interested in carp mainly because I've seen some huge ones in a couple of places near me. I only caught one; maybe a 5lb-er; it was pretty close to shore head in the weeds, so I put a few corn on a hook and stuck where the fish was, after a minute I pulled the line and sure enough I had the carp on the line! Unfortunatelly I wasn't able to catch another one since. I did a bit of reserach; made a few hair rids, but still no luck. Today I went to a place where I've seen huge carp before and sure enough there were lots of them today as well; most were over 20lbs easily. I stayer for a bit but there were tons of weeds and my corn hair rig probably got burried in the bottom and went unnoticed or just ignored perhaps. It's been quite fristrating not being able to catch anything esp knowing they're so close (some 10ft away!)

Am I doing anything wrong? or is that hard to catch them? Any tips and advice appreciated. I get bored wating for a bite so if anyone knows any good lures I'd love to hear about them.
