  1. Quick question for anyone around the DC, Virginia and Maryland areas. Does anyone know where you can buy sacks (25kg and above) of sinking trout pellets and also good quality bird food?

    Cheers

  2. Thanks barbelfloat, I have a few kilos of tutti fruiti boilies to use tomorrow over a bed of corn so hopefully they don't have the same effect as the strawberry flavoured boilies. Getting to the basin on foot isn't a problem for me as I'm only 10 blocks away but trying to get all my gear down there is why I take a cab. It sounds fancy but it's more of requirement as it's my only option of getting down there. I've found that I'm finding it harder to locate the bigger fish recently. I've never fished tidal waters before and I find at the basin the margins give great results but it's dependent of the tide level and wind. As soon as I think I have the place figured out I have a blank. The joys of carp fishing :)

  3. I live around the DuPont area so I try to keep my gear to a minimum (difficult when fishing three rods) and I get a cab down to the Basin. Does anyone have any suggestions other than using huge boilies to avoid the catfish in the basin? Corn and chickpeas seem to work well but carrying kilos of wet bait in a cab can be a pain so I'm trying to find a boilie flavour which avoids them....any suggestions? Keen to pick people's brains on the basin as I'm still trying to figure the place out.

  4. Thanks everyone for all your advice, i really appreciate it.

I would like to tackle the Tidal Basin first and then see what other challenges there are.

I've heard there are some good fish in the basin so it seems like a good stretch of water to begin my DC carp adventures..

Darius - I would really appreciate the grand tour and will be in DC from September the 10th onwards. I will msg you to arrange some times.

Again thanks everyone and tight lines

  5. Hi,

I am from the UK but will be spending a lot more time in DC for the next year or so.

I wanted to know the best carp fishing areas around the DC area and any rules/reg I should know when fishing in the USA.

    From research the Tidal Basin seems to be a good carp spot but I had a few questions;

    1. How much does it cost to fish the Basin and where do I need to go to purchase a ticket?
    2. Is it a private syndicate or is it a public fishery?
    3. What are the average and record carp weights?
    4. Is night fishing the Basin possible and safe?
    5. Is the Basin a popular carp lake with fellow carp anglers I can socialise with?

Also can you advise anywhere to get a complete carp setup locally to DC or good online retailers?

I've heard its expensive to purchase carp gear in the US so it may be easier for me to ship my gear from the UK

Any help you can give would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks,

    James
