  1. Brian, I am sure you have heard this many times, but really you helped me by explaining lots of things to understand by showing from everything from beginning to end. I have seen many videos before about carp fishing. But most of them were from europeans and most of them assumed that their viewers were all experianced. I had seen them and almost all the time, I scratched my head asking myself many questions. Then one day I stumbled upon your channel. Finally things started to make sense so much and I thank you for that.

  2. I was told that Burke has no Common Carp in it. It only has Grass Carp. Heard that you can even see them cruising through the water if you go to the left side of the lake when coming in facing the lake. I have tried several times, never seen any such thing. When I went to the left side, where that little bridge is, I see the water to be too shallow, maybe about one foot or so. Cant imagine fish being in there that shallow. But then again, I AM a newbie, I might be wrong.

So did this fish-in ever take place? If it does take place in Burke, it would be great. It is a huge lake, and fishing is allowed 24/7.

  3. @Ol Captain, thank you for your response and suggestion. Based on your link, I would not mind/object if you had called yourself an expert on it.

Now for the Strawberry Grits part, I found the following on another thread.

    "Grit Bait

Take about a pound of "instant grits",

put in 4 packs of kool-aid.

Dampen with water, just a small ammount of water while stirring it up.

When the grits get a 'spongy' feel to them, it is ready. BE SURE NOT TO GET TOO WET, JUST A SPONGY FEEL. Put a "sugar pop" or other pick up of choice...puff, corn, boilie....and pack an egg sized ball of your packbait around it. The bait will break down leaving the pop on hook laying in center of bait."

Is this the recipe? If it is, does it have to be cool aid or can I use same amount of strawberry flavored jello?

  4. I understand that you should not use tap water to prepare corn which makes sense since tap water contains chlorine and being semi-serious aquarium enthusiast, I know how bad that can be for fish. But I do wonder couple other things though. For example, what if I go to a river and grab a bucket of water and then use it to a totally different lake. Would that matter? Also, if there are some debries in it, would that matter as well? I figure that would give more natural tase to the corn when being soaked in. And one more, I usually dont use any hot water at all. I just let my corn to soak in natural temperature for about 48-72 hours. Is that bad?

  5. I have couple question about fishing for Grass Carp and using Cherry Tomato as bait. I will number my questions. Please feel free to pick a number and answer them if possible.

    1. I hear that using Cherry Tomato is great idea. How true is that?

    2. And if you DO use that, what are the procedure? As in, do you use hair rig or just bury the hook in to the tomato?

    3. Would cutting the tomato on the side help or keeping it whole would be better?

    4. This bait also works on Common Carp. Is that true?

  6. Oh man, guess I am missing the most importent one then. Well, thats ok though. I will buy one soon. For now, I guess I will just go with you and you can show me the set up and I can wait to actually fish until I get my mat. So do you ever go on weekends? That is the only time I get to go because of my job and all.

I sent you a message. So whenever you go for fishing on any weekends, let me know, and I will meet you there.

  7. Thank you all for your support and warm welcome. I really do appreciate that.

@Santiago, yes, DC is very close to me. But because my job and all, I go there some times, not all the time. I know there are big events that take place there by CAG. But I was wondering if someone goes there often, specially in the Tidal Basin area, can let me know maybe? That way, I can learn from someone face to face. I figured it would be easier to find someone there on the weekend than someone from where I am from.

@Johnfinney, well, I used to be a huge fan of cricket while I was in bangladesh. Unfortunately, after I moved to the states, I kind of lost the connection. I still hear about it time to time. I hear that Bangladesh is doing lot better now in the matches. Congratulation to England team to retain the trophy. It is probably most prideful series in the history of any sport at all. I have a very clear idea what it means to both England and Australia.

@Moon, man, you are the perfect person I need to glue myself to. Lol, j/k, but may I know the time and place when you two do go Tidal Basin so that I can learn first hand? I am not sure about this coming weekend, but please let me know and I will try anyway. But since you mentioned that you go almost every week, I should be able to meet with you sometime anyway.

  8. Hello all,

So let me introduce first. My name is Shaon and I am pretty much new to everything. Even at fishing, if you really think about it. Fishes always fascinated me since my childhood; specially freshwater fish. I was born and raised in a country named Bangladesh. So carps are not new to me as we have lots of them naturally over there. Anyway, currently, I live in Northern Virginia, Herndon area, to be specific.

    Anyone from that area?

So before last year, closer to the end of summer, I started fishing and sooner than later, I got hooked in to it. But because of no experience, I had to stop it because of the weather change. Anyway, I spent the whole winter going through gazillions of websites, youtube to make myself ready as much as possible for the summer. My goal was, to be ready when the time comes. And I have been fishing pretty well so far.

Now, for the carping, like I said, its not a new thing for me. I was pre-hooked on it even before I started fishing. But because I have no one to teach me anything, and there is only so much you can learn from online training, I started late on carping. I still have no one with whom I can actually sit down with, who has prior experience, and show me hands on about carp fishing. So I restarted my search for online and came to this site where I saw how respectful everyone towards each other, looked up their rules and regulation and decided that its about time I join this team.

So here I am, joining this group with the hope to meet some new folks who share same passion as me. I have like gazillions of questions, and I am more than sure that all the tools/tackles I have, I am still missing quite a few. So soon, I will post another thread asking for someone to sit down with me. The reason I want to sit down is that I have way too many questions to have them listed here. I have been watching video, and this here, I have to shout out to Brian Wingard. This guy helped me most with his videos and everything.

So whats your thoughts on it? Should I list all my questions here or should I ask folks to sit down with me since I have lots, and lots of questions? Please let me know.

    Thank you all.

  9. I fished at Lake Royal, but not for carp though. It is very good for Crappie fishing. There is a sign that says no fishing for carp on this lake.

I fished on Lake Burton once and there is a sign that says something about members only. I was not a member, so I asked couple people around who are from that neighborhood, and no one seemed to know this. I am not sure if the sign matters or something, but I asked them, and they said, many people fish there all the time, and it does not matter really. And for the fish itself, like I said, I only fished once, and all i caught was baby bullheads.

Let me know if you have any updates on the remaining.
