  1. Well I should have. Was going to bring it to the CanAm 2014, but was advised I would be bringing in catfish, so I thru it out to the garbage. Made instead just plain hempseed for the event (with other bait of course).

My peg assigned Americain partner was unable to attend, so was another American at another peg, so that peg's Canadian was matched at my peg to represent the American Team. He was using Banko product. He made a killing with it, and got 3rd place.

Some participants told me my initial tuna hemp recipe could of helped me. Oh well! Live and learn.

  2. Finished boiling 2 five gallons pails of whole corn yesterday morning that had been soaking for 3 days. Hadded the sugar, then sealed the buckets with their lids. We had company over and they left late, so I left the buckets outside instead of in the garage.

This morning I go to the buckets and one of them had the lid chewed and had an uneven hole of about 4"x 4" in the lid from the lip of it. Little varmints had a sweet feast. Now I got to go buy a new lid.

Hope the carps will be as interested.

  3. Next time, me and the wife are bringing our baitrunners and feed, but we will be fishing the lake for more open space. I could also bring another time one of my sturdier baitcasting rods.

  4. Like mentionned above

... If there wasn't a lot of open water there where you could fight the fish...

Twisting waterway with lots of overhanging trees, with 15'-30' from one shore to the opposite.

As for my reel, I had on a Lamson Konic 1.5, which is good quality, but I was really wooried about the rod tip snapping, although the tippet would have certainly broken before.

Better be safe than sorry (in my book), but it would have been exciting hooking on to it, even for a minute (or less).

  5. Some members of our Ottawa Flyfishers Society went this evening for small fish in the backwaters of Dow's Lake, situated in the center of the city of Ottawa. I had my 3wt fly rod and 2lb tippet holding my small streamer. Been working a shaded area, when I see movement coming for my offering. Wow! A carp in size close to 10-15 lbs is interested. I pulled my line away a.s.a.p.

Imagine what that fish would have done on my 3wt. Guess the tippet would not have resisted anyway. Just got scared for the rod tip. Others guys were laughing at me.
