Franky you are right, it is the same tight line technique we use for trout except it was sight casting in shallow rapids to tailing carp. We use a technique known as mono (monofilament) nymphing, which is no fly line on the reel, just backing attached to an 11 foot self-constructed nymphing leader with hi-vis strike indicator line. We use a 3 fly team with the dropper on the bottom.

Very cool! I use a similar technique for trout (usually a 20 foot mono leader) with multiple sighters built in, but I had no idea this would work for carp. I guess in a rapid river like that they're basically feeding on just nymphs and such anyways

Following the pledge I took before the event, I donate all my prizes to Franky DeMayo, since he's the top-ranking on the list without a prize.

Wow, Jerome, thanks so much!!! I'm speechless! Congrats on all the great fish you had in this event, and thanks again! :yourock:

  3. Been a slow last few weeks for me, hopefully I'll be able to add some weight in the next couple weeks. Got out for an hour today, stalking a certain tiny koi that I spotted in an urban pond a week ago. Blew my best shot at the koi, but managed to get a ghostie to eat on top as I was heading out. Not that big, but fun on 2 lb. line and an ultralight.  Sorry for pic on the grass, impromptu trip and I wasn't really expecting to catch anything (except maybe the koi, which I wouldn't need a mat for since its a pound at most)

Sorry, don't know how to shrink the image file

Franky....  in a word Yes.  I have held 40 pound carp and photographed 40 pound carp for other anglers. I saw a fish that was no doubt longer than a 42 inch 42 pound specimen i had landed the week before.  What did it weigh?  No clue.  Hahaha

I was fortunate enough to see a monsterous fish three days in a row just before she spawned and disappeared.  I will try to find the only photo i got of her.  She was well over 4 feet long and her head was so wide i still cant get over it.  I dont think that fish was a fifty.  I think she was a probable 60.

She had four fish around her the entire time i saw her.  They were forties.  There was crazy spawning going on..... and they just loafed around in one tiny little corner adjacent to the mayhem.  Close but seperate.

    The stuff of dreams!!!!!

Thant's crazy! I can't imagine seeing so many carp of that size... sounds like I need to get to NY!!

  5. I've really enjoyed this thread. You take some great pictures and you guys have some really HUGE fish out there!

You mentioned 50+ lbers during the spawn... do you ever see fish that size just cruising during ir right before they spawn? That would be quite a sight!
