  1. Ok so I am new to Carp fishing as of last summer. I actually discovered it late summer like mid August. The Carp were very helpful since the water temps must have been perfect cuz all you had to do was watch and see where they were breaching, to eat bugs, clean out their gills, fill or empty their swim bladders or whatever the reason it is they jump out of the water. I'd pull up to a lake, look for breaching, then fish where I saw them. Honestly it was wayyyyyyy harder landing them with my bass gear than it was to find them and get them to bite. I got proper carp gear over the winter though.

So #1 I have never fished moving water for carp. #2 I have never fished cold water like right after ice out for carp. I see on the DVD's I get for free with my BCT orders that they fish in winter in cold water in Europe but I think here in Minnesota right now the water is way colder.

So is it even possible that I can catch them? I know how other fish like bass react to cold but again I have no clue with Carp. People claim you can't catch them ice fishing but I don't believe that they fish with the right bait and also they would never pull in a average sized carp with their bare hand so I am sure they attribute break offs to other fish like "oh boy I lost a giant walleye!"

I took pics of every fishable stretch so feel free to photoshop them and point out where you would put your baits if it was YOU fishing. Also I can get canned corn at the store and I also have some Monster fruit punch out corn. I also have hemp oil and other goops (it's been a long boring winter so I bought a bunch of stuff ) I have PVA bags and the like. I basically have every tid bit to make any rig.

So yes corn, heavy weight, but helicopter, in line, confidence rig? Do I want the bait on the bottom? I have sinking hook length, flouro, lead core, also have the floating stuff, stiff rig etc. Like I said it's been a boring winter  Plus for me I used to tie flies a lot and all this rig making stuff and the different ways to use it is kinda fun to play with like making your own lures.

Again I appreciate any and all help and unless it suddenly starts snowing or raining I am going fishing tomorrow and I will post pics stream side. Especially if I catch any

  2. So there is no "carp" season for rod and reel here in Minnesota. You can fish anytime. In the town of Hutchinson there is a dam, it is constructed to look like a river flowing down rocks. It's the Crow River and it flows under the bridge that goes into downtown. I noticed that from the dam and all down the length of the river along the park is ice free. I imagine it's got a good current and the water is freezing but I think it's pretty deep and I am betting there are some Carp in the deep holes along there if there is some. I was told a few years back when the redid the dam there that after draining down the river to work on the dam they had to take carp out buy the back hoe bucketful and put them in dump trucks to be given to farmers for fertilizer. So I know the river has carp in it. I am awaiting a call back from the local DNR officer there to see if it's ok for me to fish there. Today I am going to go scout it out and see if it's even fishable. If it is and if I can I am going to fish there. It's been a looooonnnngggg winter and we are getting these 50 - 60F days and I wanna go fish.

So what I need is some advice on what to use to fish there tips, tricks ect. After I scout it today I will post some pics of the area so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

About me: Moved to MN from Maine. No Carp in Maine but I was a Bass Fisherman. Started carp fishing last summer and have be hooked ever since!

Thanks for any help in advance.
