  1. I always fish two rods I figure the DNR won't care because #1 I keep no fish and #2 I'm carp fishing ;)

If you are fishing off the dock you only need to cast 20 - 30 feet. If you're on the bank 90 - 100'

I use method feeders with oats, panko, cream corn, and other stuff.

I use fake pop up corn exclusively for a hook bait.

  2. Oh no I meant the wimmens could hang out and talk wimmen stuff ;)

I also smoke turkeys so I will do pork and turkey.

6am is fine we can go earlier if folks want to come early.

I will post the address with some pics here soon and we will get a head count before I go food shopping. If people want to bring sides and dessert stuff, or chips and snacks that would be good. I make stuffing and brocolli salad with all my BBQ. I know that may seem weird but from years of feeding people its what always went the fastest so I just stopped making other stuff.

Is anyone gonna fish with boilies? If so I will add some to the pre bait I use cuz I'm pretty sure the carp here have never seen them.

On good note we had and algae bloom a couple weeks ago that is hanging around. It makes the water very green and with low visibility. Doesn't effect the fishing but it does keep the bow hunters away ;)

  3. So start time? I'd say I'm open to any time just let me know. I do think now in the heat of summer the best fishing will be early morning and from 6ish pm til dark and after. So you should plan accordingly. Like I said folks are welcome to stay as long as they like and even overnight.

As far as start time goes I'll get up as early as folks want to get here. Just let me know. Just make sure if you are wanting to get here and fish at 4am that you SHOW UP! I'll be ticked if I get up that early and you don't show up ;)

We're also looking at doing a most fish\big fish pool.

Also anyone not like pork? I plan on smoking pork for the BBQ, I'm open to other meats like turkey if there's enough interest.

Honestly being from the east coast PBR is the cheap beer of choice for hot summer days. I'll have my homemade skeeter pee (hard lemonade) available too. You want anything else it's BYOB.

Also if you have a chair bring it. I only have 5 outside chairs and a picnic table. I don't wanna leave anyone hanging.

My fiance will be there so wives and girlfriends are more than welcome to hang out.

As we get closer we'll get a count so I know how much food and drink to have on hand.

  4. I fish with 25 # braid. I had my drag set accordingly but I noticed I was losing bigger fish. I finally fugured out that They were pulling so hard the hook was tearing out of their soft mouth. They don't have bony jaws like bass and pike. So I set my drag to about what I'd set it for 8 - 10 lb'ish mono. Now with the bigger fish I let them take line during their abrubt runs and I've noticed a big difference in landing bigger fish.

  5. Minnesota fish in!

We can do Saturday and Sunday if people are interested. That way we can fish at night as well. If people want to overnight. I have a couple 2 man tents and a super giant tent folks are welcome to use to camp out if they want. I'll provide a big BBQ for a lunch and dinner and pancake breakfast if needed. If we'll have enough people a keg of beer as well. (once you RSVP plz don't bail I will be buying food and beer based on the number of folks I know are coming)

Our cabin is on Lake Marion which is in Brownton between Hutchinson and New Ulm. It's about an hour away from the cities. Easy traffic free drive too. Carp breach right off shore of the cabin and we have a big dock and a lot of shore to fish from. We are also within walking distance of some other swims. The lake also has largemouth bass, pike, walleye, crappie and catfish. I should have a fishing boat available as well.

So please let me know who's coming and we'll make it happen!

I will post directions (I can't remember the addresss yet) but basically put Lake Marion Mcleod county or Brownton into your GPS. when you are going by the Lake on Rt15 you'll see the end of the lake and the fishing benches, then you will see a sign that says Lake Marion Supper Club, take that road that's my road. Like I said I will post better directions when it gets closer and I will have signage out on the roads the day of the fish in.

Here's a 16lb Carp we caught on our first cast about 2 weeks ago. Caught 3 about the same size last night and lost 2 that were much bigger:

  9. I've used octopus hooks when I used to put corn right on the hook. I have no idea why folks would think they wouldn't work??? They are proven to be an exceptional hook for all types of fish.

I only stopped using them when I went to fake corn on a hair. But I use exclusively those hump back curved hooks. I find the curved hooks give me better hook sets.
