  1. Finally had a fishing companion with my future son in law home from college for the summer. Been bragging up Carp fishing for a year so I was excited to show him.

Took him to my favorite lake. I have killed the last two trips there catching big carp left and right.

Overcast and windy. But the water was warm and the same temp as last week. Fish were still breaching. Fish were very uncooperative. What's weird is we had lots of takes only two hookups. It was like they were picking up the method feeders and moving them???? I thought maybe spawning fish??? Ive fished bass when nesting and they would pick the jig up and move it out of the nest. Maybe the carp were doing that??

We only caught two with one being snagged underneath. The other was a big one that looked to be full of eggs.

A strange day and one not typical of this venue.

  2. Yeah an aquarium tank is far different than an entire lake.

On a really small pond with a ton of carp I could see carp making a difference in water clarity maybe.

Hell when I fish in our boat with its giant front mount trolling motor and I'm fishing shallow that motor stirs up the bottom way more than carp. Maybe its trolling motors causing algae blooms?

  3. I have a cheap set of NGT alarms. I have nothing to compare them to since I've never had alarms before. That said they work. They also have adjustable sensitivity which seems rare in cheap alarms. Also came with batteries.

Now I just spent some coin on a more spendy set ( needed a wireless remote ) I'll be bummed if I don't see much difference from my cheapie set.

I had the "joy" of reading this at lunch the other day. The guy is an idiot. Some choice quotes:

"Carp — big and ugly — are invading the shallows to carry out their annual spawning ritual. Because of that, they are vulnerable."

Carp are many things but you can't say they are ugly.

"The menial carp also is unsightly and destructive. It roots around on the water’s floor, muddying lakes and rivers and causing algae blooms that reduce light penetration. Less light affects the growth of weed habitat that is good for waterfowl and fish."

    The menial carp?????.....

  5. Getting my start in bass fishing seeing all the TV hosts and the pros using baitcasters made me want one.

I've tried several times throughout my life to use one and god dammit I just can't cast them. At least not like I can a spinning rod.

Maybe its time to try again......
