  1. I don't need to cut down any trees. The waterline is tree free. Don't need to create a swim. We are at the end of a point and the hotspot of the lake is the end of the point ;)

I have a tree that fell in the water I gotta remove and I have a 4' x 48' dock I need to do some repairs on then figure out how to get it in the water.

Work and horrible weather has prevented any fishing time. But I am off sat, sun, Mon, Tues this weekend.

Gotta rip all the carpet out of the cabin, replace the toilet and the kitchen and bathroom faucets. AND pull out the old fridge and bring in the new one we bought. Oh and mow the lawn lol.

But I will be fishing a couple of those days off. I'll have more pics and hopefully some ones with fish come the weekend.

  2. So its been a month since we made the offer and it was accepted. I didn't want to say anything until we actually closed I was afraid it would jinx us.

My gal and I are now proud owners of a lakeside house! A lake with carp in it as well as the other usual suspects for Central Minnesota.

Yes gents I can walk out the back door and go fishing!

The whole reason we moved to MN was to help and care for my fiance's aging parents. So this will be a getaway home until either my future in laws pass on or move to more advanced care. There are some fixer upper issues to deal with, some beatification issues inside and out as well. But nothing that prevents usage of the house. Just wish list things which we can take our time addressing as we can.

Biggest issue right off is to rehab then get in the water the ginormous dock. Thing has to be 40' long.

Its on Lake Marion which is 1\2 way between Litchfield where we live and New Ulm where I work. We our on the point with the best fishing hole right in front of our place.

After we attend to some things I will be for sure hosting a fish in. Folks will be welcome to stay the whole weekend and I hope it will be just one of many such gatherings.

    Pics in next post.

  3. So I work at a 3M factory. In the lunchroom is a table full of old magazines and more are spread out all over the tables as people take them to read while they eat.

Bowhunting, sailing, snowmobile ones. Very few fishing ones. And the few there are have a very dog eared look like they have been read the most.

My thought is if I was able to spread some carp fishing mags around I may be able to convert some folks.

Problem is I don't have any.

I'd be willing to pay shipping. You could ship a bunch for pretty cheap in the if it fits it ships boxes at the USPS.

So does anyone have some old carp fishing mags they'd like to donate?

  4. I dont know about size but i am now a big believer in hook shape!

I have like 200 wide gap choddy style hooks. I had a few Teflon coated curved shank hooks. With farming not yet under full swing the lake I fish is crystal clear right now as opposed to murky green with farm runoff. The wide gaps are like a black chrome. So with the clear water, the bottom is blackish green, I went with the black Teflon coated curve shanks.

The amazing thing is I caught 10+ fish that day and every one the fish was hooked dead center of the bottom lip. Like perfectly every time.

I immediately ordered a bunch when I got home.

  5. I went last Friday down here since it was the only nice day during my days off. Caught a bunch they were biting so good that when I ran out of method mix I just cast out the bare feeder with the fake corn hook link and I was still catching. No one with me so no weighing or pics but if I could have I think I had a real big one over 20lbs.

  6. I always dread when people show up while I'm fishing. They ask what am I fishing for because my gear is different. So when I tell them they treat me like I'm a mental patient on a day pass. Or if they see me catch a carp they go ballistic when I let it go. 1\2 because they believe its against the law to put rough fish back in the lake once caught. Which is wrong that law hasn't been in effect for years. The other 1\2 because they hate carp and feel they are ruining their beloved walleye fishing.

They never consider that their walleyes are declining because everybody keeps them to eat. Hell they are on the menu of every restaurant in Minnesota! Much like Maine with trout and salmon if the MN DNR didn't stock walleyes in lakes there wouldn't be any. I have never met a Minnesotan walleye angler who was a catch and release angler. Not one. They destroy their own fisheries not the carp!

  7. Wow that's crazy. Minnesota must be the prime habitat to produce carp. They net them, we got the bowfishers, they thought channel cats would eat them so they introduced them to lakes to try and get rid of carp. They've electrocuted, and poisoned whole lakes. Plus 99.9% of fisherman kill every carp they catch. BUT they are still everywhere.

There are some streams and rivers they are so thick you could walk across their backs to the other side.

The commercial fisherman will haul a 100,000 lbs out of a lake and there are still carp in there and 5 yrs later they can go back to the same lake and do it again.

Doesn't hurt that there's like 10,000 lakes. But I think due to farm runoff algae grows really good in the lakes that the carp have lots to eat.

Literally the lakes are all glass clear right now but come summer when farming is at its peak the lakes get opaque green to some of them you can't see 6 inches into the water.

I feel bad for you guys losing your habitats. But hey come to Minnesota. 10,000 lakes and I believe the lowest rate of unemployment in the country ;)

Plus I ain't seen one russian!

  8. At least in those scenarios the fish are being utilized. Still sucks dead is dead. But just the wanton killing for no reason other than to kill them makes it worse.

If they were killing them and cleaning them to eat. I wouldn't have felt bad. Not enough people here willing to eat them that the populations will ever be threatened by meat eaters.

But even if they were putting them in the garden for fertilizer while still distasteful is not like stabbing them then then throwing them in the fire.

  9. Landed 7 fish today all good sized might have even caught a new PB. But I was alone so didn't want to go thru the whole land, weigh, pic thing.

Disturbing thing was that on the lake about 100 yds away from me on the dock of people who live on the lake they were catching a bunch too. Then killing them.

They would reel the carp up to their dock then another person would spear the carp with a fish spear then they carried it over and tossed into their bonfire. Really sad thing was the older teenagers showed some little kids how to do it. Boy and girl couldn't have been more than 10 yrs old they would run out all excited to spear the carp then dance around in joy and the parents would congratulate them on a job well done ? Really sickening to see.

At least their gear was small enough that they lost the bigger ones they hooked.

  10. I've said it before I'll say it again. Instead of netting the fish, carrying it to an unhooking mat, THEN carrying it to a carp cot or whatever those holding tanks, then holding the fish up for 15 pics.

If you are truly so concerned about the welfare of a fish. Unhook it while taking it out of the water as little as possible.

If you choose to do all that other crap hey that's your prerogative.

But don't get on your high horse and give people crap if they don't follow your lead. After all they are fish not endangered Pandas and if you TRULY TRULY care SO MUCH about Carp what kind of A HOLE are you to be tricking them into thinking they are getting a yummy banana mango treat and then sticking hooks into them? That's pretty mean ;)

Be thankful when ANYONE is using a rod and reel and not a bow or gill net.
