  1. I guess that depends on a few things. First, how highly do you rate them? Second, would be the venue.

Here in the states where most of our fish are considered "Wild" they have to be trained to accept the boilie it seems. But, once they key on that specific flavor it can be an advantage to the fisherman that is using them.

    New guy

Welcome JT! There is so much information on here. As a relatively new carp fisherman, this site offers a ton of knowledge from some great carp fisherman.

My first suggestions would to be to find a swim that is conducive to landing carp, bait it up a bit (corn, sweet feed, boilies....), watch it for a while to see what kind of action is in that location, and then go fish. It is a gratifying process.

  2. I think chum is the biggest difference as well. Anything light is going to get blown out quickly on a river if anywhere near current. I always use heavy leads so that doesn't matter. I also use shorter hooklinks in heavy current. Less chance of getting dragged into snags.

  3. First off, I really like your energy and enthusiasm. Secondly, I would like to offer some suggestions. First off, when fighting the fish place your right hand on the forearm grip (above the reel) this will give you much more control. Secondly, pump and wind. Most of your cranking on that reel was for nothing as you were not gaining on the fish at all. Lastly, carp care is an important aspect of what we do. Do a bit of research and I am sure you will find some good tips.

Thanks for sharing your video and welcome to CAG. Tight lines!
