Where are you gonna fishing?  I will be fishing a few spots between ogdensburg and waddington.  Cant wait!  I will look forward to seeing your report!!

We have a campsite at Coles Creek, so I will surely try from there. I have done a little research so I have found a couple of other places to try around Waddington. I hear they catch a few around there.

Are there any carp guys who fish in your area? Fishing with some seasoned anglers would make the the learning process much simpler. Just try to keep things simple and get comfortable with basic rigs first. If you are keen on using boilies, maybe start with a single boilie and get comfortable using hair rigs.

Welcome to the forum. There are tons of articles you can browse through and read up on. Youtube is also a fantastic resource for learning purposes. Once again, just keep it simple for now, it it can get overwhelming.

^^^This^^^     I started simple, went to fairly elaborate, and am now back to simple. Simple is almost always better. There are many ways to fish, but unless your fish are particularly pressured you don't need anything over the top.

  3. Good luck up there CarpDaddy. I will be up there the last week of June for some carp fishing with the family. Never been before, but I am sure I will catch a few.

Btw, very nice season so far. You are killing it man.

  4. First off, great videos. I very much enjoy watching carp do there thing. I do have some questions for you, as I too own a waterwolf, and have had limited success using it.

    1) Where did you happen to find the "bottom kit"? I have been looking with no success.

    2) How long of a hook link did you run? It seems that you have the length dialed in well.

    3) How deep was the water you were fishing? I noticed that my waterwolf seems to need more light than I would have thought.

Thanks in advance, as any information would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hello hoisanjai,

Welcome to the site. I personally own the original Sks rods in 3.5, and couldn't be happier. I cast massive method balls at fairly long distance with very little effort, and they have forgiving tips for fighting fish in close. I have those paired with Daiwa Crosscast X Quick Drag reels. I have yet to have any issues with these reels, though there might be better bang for your $. I know folks that fish Saxon, and they also seem pretty happy with their decisions. It seems that there is a wealth of good options out there, and they do not have to break the bank.

  6. If you are looking for a rod holdall, I just picked this up from BCT, and my first impressions are that it is well built for considerably less $ than comparable counterparts.

As far as a chair, I have been using this one that I found at Gander Mountain. Again, considerably cheaper than most "carp" chairs, and is well built.

  7. Scopex is what I have had best results with so far, but I am new to the game. Pineapple has produced as well. I might have to give peach a shot after hearing all its blessings.

  8. That is great that you have found a place to actively pursue these fish. That is most of the battle there. Now you get the enjoyment of finding exactly what sets them over the top. Scopex is right near the top in my book. That being said, every fishery fishes different, and even from day to day the carp will key on a new flavor. Mix it up, and bring some options. You are in a very fun stage of the game. Enjoy it!

  9. I have used it as a spod mix in the past. Sinks like a stone, and seems to have worked well. I usually mix it in a small bucket with a very small amount of water and some sweet corn. Stir it up good, and start spodding after a few minutes. The pellets swell quite a bit with a very small amount of water so don't over do it.
