Maybe you can start off by fishing with canned sweetcorn? Depending on your experience level you may be able to fish with packbait which ingredients are readily available throughout the country at any grocery store! If you need any help send me a message and I'll be more than happy to help, goodluck!

    Hi Jacob,

Nice catch in the avatar btw :)

I am avid carp angler (when I was back home). Use to fish for these suckers 6 days a week (at best). Won a tourney once and my other half (back then - not now!) also won a tourney or 2.  Have the CCCC in Ontario, never made it to the one in Cornwall though :(  Great fishing there!

I use to make my own packbait and use lots of secret goodies from the pantry and fridge ;)  I guess what I am really looking for is a place that sells boilies, weights (proper inline or 1.5oz+) and end terminal tackle.  I have zero hooks, swivels, rods baitrunner...nothing.  I will be fishing not the way you guys do (lack of gear for that), but I will be using a good ole cheap rod and reel from Wal-Mart ;)  One that I won't cry over if it snaps in half and one that I will be leaving behind when I return back to home.

One other note...I have to say that I have NEVER caught a carp yet on canned corn!  I have caught many, if not almost all my catches using flavoured corn, but never using grocery store corn!

Thank you for you reply!  All input is greatly appreciated :)

  2. Good day,

I haven't been carp fishing in over 3 years :(  I moved from Hamilton Ontario to Edmonton Alberta and had to sell my gear.  Alberta doesn't have carp :(  there have been very very very few reportings of  carp and the moment I mention it to anyone one, they frown and I get the old "ugh" response from them lol.  I laugh and ask them...have you ever caught one before?  I didn't think so!  Then I go on to educate them on the greatest fishing they are missing out on!

Anyhow....I  am on my way to Texas for 2 weeks and damn straight I am going to be hitting the banks.  Only thing is, I have no idea where to buy my bait or terminal tackle from.  I will everywhere from  Mexico border to Oklahoma, but will be mostly available to fish the banks between College Station and the Mexico border.  Tackle, etc I can get anywhere from the south to the north and eastern TX.

I used to be a CAG member years ago.  Haven't been active for quite awhile, I am missing it!

Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated.

My first bank will probably be Good Times Marina as I will be leaving Baytown and heading to College Station on the Sunday after the World of Outlaws race.  Also!  ha ha ha!  I will be teaching my boyfriend how to fish (he has NEVER held a rod before!).  I am really hoping he will be able to catch one :)

    Thanks!
