  1. We are producing a show on big fish for the National Geographic Channel. And we are looking for video/film footage of three types of fish (underwater & surface) which we could possibly acquire:

White Sturgeon, Siamese Giant Carp & Wels Catfish

Do you have footage of these fish or know anyone who does?

Please let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Nadine

I've already sent this to someone for the Giant Carp, the other two I don't know. Sounds like a cool show if it gets made.

  2. Rick - out of all of these nice pics I still picked a favorite:

This one spoke to me - you have a deft eye for editing too

Have to ask about this one:

Is this a carpy closeup? THese are beautiful man, thanks for sharing

  3. My team mate (Paul Dawidczyk) and I had an inauspicious start to our ATC as we almost didn't make it. With the rolling storms in Chicago American Airlines canceled our Thursday flight, letting Paul know at 2:30 in the morning. Said the next available was Friday - unacceptable! So they said there was a Milwaukee flight on Continental at 8 AM - that's what we had to go for, even if it was 80 miles north in Wisconsin. We had planned to meet at my place and consolidate our gear as I'm on the way to O'Hare, instead I had to boogie on north to Paul's. We almost lost our carry on bait between Houston and Austin, but finally made it - I wouldn't have believed until we pulled into the Wyndham lot. On to some pix:

Notice a theme here? Every fish was caught by Paul and each one on the same rod - that's all we needed to bring. I gladly played the role of netboy - good thing it's a team competition :D

Day 2 we blanked so no pix, but that's fishing. :D

  4. Wow it was strange seeing my name all properly spelled out in a topic :D

Lonewolf - no that design isn't available on a t-shirt. The mouse pad was put together by Neil and I believe Dean in KS. That kind of full-color processing would be too expensive as a screen - the most economical way would be a heat transfer. A general note the CAG items can be viewed here and purchased at the participating vendor links on the bottom.

Buckeye Bob - good to hear/see/read from you! I still refer to my telescoping Cumings net as my 'Buckeye Bob Net' :D

  5. Heads up on another Thai adventure on "Get Wild with Cindy Garrison" - this is the snakehead portion of her trip with Jean-Francois Helias. Though Francois was a bit disappointed at the Mekong episode, at least they separated the snakehead fishing into another show. Don't expect too much in terms of any angling depth on a show like this, but still should be interesting and a glimpse into another part of the world.

  6. A heads up for anybody interested in some exotic big fish, "Get Wild with Cindy Garrison" (ESPN2) will feature fishing in Thailand with big fish guide Jean-Francois Helias. Targets include the Mekong Giant Catfish and topwater for Snakeheads, though Francois doesn't know what the final edit actually includes - should be interesting :D

  7. Another picture from Tommy (someday he WILL learn how to post these himself :D )

Here are two sets of Delkims for the CCC prizes.

I've had my set of Delkims over ten years and they

still work absolutely prefect. That's because they are

a quality buzzer. Once I accidentally left them on all

winter. And during all this time, I am only on the

third set of batteries. Thanks for the help from Iain

Sorrell at Angling Solutions and Del Romang at Delkim,

  8. More from Tommy and the sponsors..

    Stainless Metalware from Solar

Here's the Stainless Steel 'Croc Pod' donated to the prize hopper from Solar Tackle. It sets up extremely fast and packs up very compact in it's own case. A nice piece of carping kit and it should be since it retails for around $650. It comes from a very generous Martin Locke.

    Thank you Martin!

  9. by the way, you fished the same swim on Day #2 that Jackie and I fished on day #1,,, of course you were much luckier mad.gif we BLANKED !! mad.gif
Neil - I think you and Jackie primed that swim for us :D
Awesome pics. Now you see why the rest of us are hooked on Austin. (Pardon the pun.) tongue.gif See you there next year?

Thanks Cornbread, next year would not be to soon :D

I'm getting carried away with copying quotes - thanks Tommy, good to see you again, Jerome - CD's will go out, thanks Sarah, Mo - nice meeting you, there's definitely some huge potential in some huge bodies of water where you are, thanks Driftwood, thanks Charley.

Paul, I think you were the one that guessed 34? Good guess! Thanks Tracy, it was great to meet you and Aimee too :D

  10. This stretch also saw Paul hit his personal best at 25-5, about a pound over his previous one. We caught almost all the way to the end – a nice late surge for us. We ended up with seven fish for the day and 9 total for a net weight of 183 lbs and some change. We saw Paul P and Mirek later in the parking lot – they came in just ahead of us at 187 lbs – Chicago represented!

Paul's new personal best (my picture-taking left a lot to be desired here :D )

    post-1-1143783476_thumb.jpg

The only thing that would have made the trip more complete was some extra time for extracurricular fishing, and to hit a couple of the live music venues on sixth street. Chicago and Austin has long had a kinship music-wise. My thanks to Paul D, a good friend and especially for someone who is new to CAG, an awesome teammate. Also day one peg neighbors Tracy and Aimee, day two neighbors Mark and Donnie, and especially to Neil, Brian, Jackie and the rest of their crew

    :D

  11. By late afternoon I finally got to actually contribute some weight to our total, well worth the wait for me as it turned out – it was a biggie. Mark had guessed it at 38, I initially thought at least thirty but had no idea what to think after some of the guesses. The scale stopped at 34-11, a new personal best for me. Paul joked, “geez, you don’t mess around with the little stuff do you.” :D

interesting top view, check out those nostrils

We started hitting nice fish in the twenties, almost all the way to the end.

    post-1-1143783250_thumb.jpg

    ..one of the twenty-somethings

This was an inopportune time to have to answer a long questionnaire given by Mukhtar from the TPWD. The questions were so detailed I would have thought he was from a bank ;o). I’m sure a positive and economic case is being made for preserving the unique trophy carp fishery that is Town Lake.

  12. But the action slowed by mid day, especially after the dam was opened causing a rush of debris downstream, including whole sections of tree trunk. The fish really shut down, which provided us a good time to nap a bit too. I took the now-dry landing mat, folded it in half and found a shady area for a quick snooze. I awoke to find I had two soakers on the backs of my legs – brrr. It was time to check the lines and sling more feed out.

Mark and Donnie had quite the camp set up, especially after Mark’s family joined them. Little Comet would come over for a visit, which prompted Mark’s daughter to come chase him down – it was funny watching the dog roll on his back and go limp, making it difficult for her to pick him up. Mark is a riot, full of funny carping stories. Donnie has a photographic memory - more than a couple of times we forgot to mark down our fish, prompting us to go back and ask “that fish was 22 what?” Donnie would pause and kind of replay the slides in his mind until he would say “22-6.” Yeah, we agreed, that sounds right.

  13. post-1-1143782402_thumb.jpg

Day two we actually got to the drawing on time and drew peg 27, described as the “chicken swim,” I guess because of the fabric and chicken wire erosion barrier. At the very least this spot looked comfortable and fishable at lake level. Signs of crashing fish made it that much better. We were actually ready with waiting rods on the shoulder at 7.

First a spodded layer of corn in six selected areas, then some slinging of method balls. The Wacker Blaster rocks! Paul got some early action maybe a half an hour in with a couple of nice fish, quickly putting us on the board. Our peg neighbors were the team of Mark and Donnie, veteran Town Lakers, who were also fishing the following TCC tournament. Both teams verified each others early catches as we all hoped for a non-stop day.

    Pair of early fish
