  1. Hi

How do you locate carps in a body of water you have never fished?

I know about looking for jumping carps or bubbles coming to the surface or simply spotting them cruising.

Do some of you fish at random, pick a convenient spot and hope for the best?

    Thanks

You are the man I figured it out thanks to your pictures. What was confusing me was that if you look at my picture the clip on the pink hanger wasn't were it was supposed to be, it was on the black cord instead of being on top of the pink part.

I have a question on your second pic with the hangers set up. Shouldn't the lines on your 3 rods be slacking to allow the hanger to go up when a carp bites?

    Thanks again

Well said, I was planning on having hook lenghts ready in case of breakage. I will try both ways of rigging, one with same hook length as main line and one with a smaller hook length and see what I prefer.

I m a beginner and I would need a picture to understand your rig.But thanks anyway for posting.

    Thanks to both

  4. Thanks to all I got me some size 8 hooks along with the 6 I had, I will try one on each of my 2 poles.

Mr Hooper I have always been told in Euroope where I grew up that the rig at the end of the line, the part below the swivel should be a couple sizes smaller than the main line, the reason is supposed to be to present a smaller line to the fish and in case of breaking during a battle the fish will swim around with only 12" of line instead of maybe a much longer piece.

Everybody can shime on this, if I should use the same 14lb for the rig as for my spool I will do so, I m here to learn.

Mr hooper thanks for the 12" length for the rig I wasn't sure which lenght to use.

    Thanks a lot

  5. Hi

I got both my shimano bait runner loaded with 14lb test line, what size line for the bottom rig, I was thinking 12lb.Is this size correct?

I will go for a basic rig with a size 6 hook (Not hair rigged) and a sliding sinker above a swivel.

Please let me know what you think

    Thanks

  6. Hi

The boaters that really get to me are the ones that on a huge lake like lake Lanier or Allatoona here in Georgia will anchor 20 feet from a bank accessible by shore fishermen and fish right there, you got to be f.....g kidding me!

They usually have the latest boat, all shiny, big outboard engine, a couple babes in sexy swinsuits (That part is ok), it's all a show, I feel sorry for them.

The real boat fishermen which I have been at times are fishing remote coves with nobody in sight, more and bigger fish and peace and quiet.

Somebody mentionned Musky fishing, WOOWW! what a thrill it must be, I will definitely travel to musky waters in the future when I get to knock some bills out of the way.

Here in Georgia we only have the chain pickerel which is already a lot of fun, I love the whole esox family including the fish tank sized redfin pickerel which only gets a few inches long.

To go back to killing carp, well I see it 2 ways. One if you kill to eat well you are not breaking the law, so it's your right unfortunately to kill 20 carps a day, carp fishermen have to fight to get the carp recognized as a game fish so restrictions can be placed on them. I don't kill anything be it a bass, carp or trout, it all goes back.

Now I hate the bass fishermen more that throw carps on the bank to die, and their carcass to rot in the sun. I have heard once in a while fishermen say that they will throw carps on the bank to die and I have told them that for every carp's carcass I see on the bank I will sacrifice 2 largemouth bass the same way (Which of course I could never do), but it gets a funny look on their face and maybe make them think about not doing it.

  7. Hi

Great looking pics. I have kept several wild caught fish in tanks in the past including 2 small carps in a 125 gallons.

I have kept suckers, crappies, yellow perch, white perch, sunfish, bass, catfish and various smaller stuff like shiners, darters and creek chubs.

It's fun. I might start again.

  8. Hi

I gave a try to the traditionnal white bass run in a local river north of Atlanta. I landed two, almost landed a third. Nobody was cathing, beside one guy who caught a nice size hybrid. Lots of catfishermen two. Amazingly I was the only guy to catch and release.

It was fun, even though I got only 4 hits total in about 4 hours. Was fishing with lures.

  9. Patrick, I have caught, and logged nearly 18,000 carp since the start of 1987.

Ive fished Binghamton NY a few times you should do just fine there!:D

    Hi

You just took the wind out of me. 18000 carps, that is incredible, I didn't know someone could catch that many, I don't think I have caught 18000 fish in my entire life and I have fished often.

No wonder only you answered, nobody comes close to that.

BTW I am not in New-York anymore but north of Atlanta but there are plenty of carps here too.

    Congrats on the numbers

  10. vaindioux,

Rodbag is essential, decent rucksack, bedchair bag with shoulder strap which still leaves two hands for the two five gallon buckets of bait...    oxygen tanks are a bonus,  :D      but it keeps you fit..  :D

    Hi

Thanks Phil. I try to buy a piece of gear here and there when the funds are ok, got to pay the bills first.

I think the carp mat is next ,that is a cheap piece of gear, what will I do when I land a monster carp (Why are you all laughing suddenly.), I won't know what to do with it and how to safely remove the hook.

  11. On the bass boat question, most have a depth finder.  Ask them how deep it's reading.  Let em move a foot or two and ask again, and again and again.  You will either get a very detailed depth profile of your swim, OR they will move off to avoid the pestering :D

    :D:D:D:D

Best one of the day. I bet they would love it spiced up with my french accent on top of it. :D

"Sir what iz yor depf finder reading!" LOL!

I should be fine, I ain't stupid, I make deliveries all day in north Georgia for Fedex, lots of locals living down remote dirt trails, flying the confederate flag in their front yard. I am cool they are cool, never had a problem.
