  1. I just received a phone bringing me the unbearable news that my friend and fishing companion, Ladislav, apparently suffered a heart attack last night and has passed on. I have meet hundreds of carp anglers but none with his passion for for the sport. Take a look at some of his pictures here.

I had the good pleasure of meeting Ladislav at the TCC last March2006. He was fishing a swim at Emma Long Metro Park. We spent many hours talkin about carpin. I was able to see all of his carpin fotos on his laptop. I remember well his passion for carp fishing. I noticed that he used a very interesting packbait approach. As I recall, his avocado sized clump of packbait did not break, it just sort of slowly eroded; after 2 hours when he reeled in, the clump had eroded to about half size. It seemed to work for him; he got the 57lb8oz buff and numerous carp also while I was there. I will miss not ever seeing him again. He truly was too young to die.

  2. One of my grand-daughters said, "Take Me Fishing!" So, away we went to one of my favorite swims. The bite was OK - we landed two before it became dark. The foto of the larger fish was not as nice as the one with the smaller fish so the smaller fish gets the posting. Here is grand-daughter enjoying the fight & with the smaller fish.

  3. Some time back, I took my 8 year old grand-daughter carpin with me. I reeled the first one in & brought it to the net, continuously informing/instructing her in what I was doing. After that she played the rest of them. She caught on fast and did just fine. She has an 8x10 foto hanging in her bedroom of her with her "pet carp". What a nice experience it was, indeed.

  4. I was talking about carpin at a social gathering recently. One of the ladies said she wanted to "capture" a carp. I said that I didn't know about the "capture" part but I could take her out and she could reel some in. She allowed as how that would be cool so we set a time & date (last Sunday) and we went carpin. Since she had never caught any kind of fish before, I did the baiting, casting & netting. I taught her how to play the fish and bring it to net. Then we proceeded to haul. She had a ball. She said it was "interesting" to hold a real live big fish in your hands. She said she was going to show her carpin fotos to the guy at the office who brags about catching 8 inch trout.

  5. Town Lake in Austin is an awesome carp fishery. I'm guessing that many of us have landed a personal best (PB) from Town. (I did.) I thought it would be interesting to see how many PBs from Town our Forum participants can post up. So, if you ever landed a PB from Town, please post it in this thread. Include a foto if you can.

In the last 2006 ATC, I had the pleasure to fish with Bill Smith from Indiana. After blanking for about 22 hours, I finally got one. After Bill netted it and we weighed it, it tipped the scales at 36lb4oz - by far my PB. I was a happy camper!!

  6. Been spending time on various waters in SoCal fishin for carp, trying various baits & techniques. I've landed a few over the summer. The prettiest have been the mirrors. I have selected five fotos of mirrors that I will place in this thread to share with you. The first weighed 27lb8oz, the second weighed 17lb5oz, and the rest were not weighed. In all cases, I was wearing my lucky blue camo T-shirt (it's hiding under the lucky grey sweatshirt in two fotos) - just keep washin & wearin it. In any event, I hope you enjoy lookin at em as much as I enjoyed catchin em.
