  1. King,

Great mirror - awsome colors. Any mirror, no matter the size is a welcome sight. Wish we had more of them here in the states. It is amazing how some waters really cause the fish to show they're colors. Wonderful picture.

    Congrats,

  2. Guys, thanks very much for the kind words...it was a pleasure to catch and a pleasure to display it to the group!

Mike D. I'll PM you about this weekend!!

        All the best  Val G.(happy, but still wants to join the 30 club}

PS  Can anyone tell me how to get this photo on as my avatar???

Great picture Val. Beautiful fish. Are you up for another session there this weekend? Water level is on its way back down, weather should be in th 50's. It would be nice to get you a thirty as a last hurrah before the snow flies. You've had a great year - congrats!

(except for losing that pole...) :D

  3. Val,

Looking forward to seeing it. Was going to maybe see if you wanted to hit the swim again this weekend, but we'd be waist deep in water as the CT is flooding out bad at this time. Maybe next weekend...

    Congrats,

  4. Bill,

I have seen this happen countless times, and can only scratch my head. Fished a spot on the CT a few weeks back, 2 rods, both with tiger nuts. Baits were no more than 5-10 feet apart. five runs on the left hand (downstream) side, with constant line bite activity. Right hand rod - zilch. I figure the fish are aligning with the current, moving upstream to the particle bed. I then move both rods to the left, placing the right hand rod where the left had been. Four more runs, still on the left hand rod, not a twitch on the right...

    Go figure.

  5. I hate cats too, unless they are over 15 lb. The biggest one I have ever caught while carp fishing was 32 lb. it was a blue cat and I caught it on

    2 - 16mm boilies on a hair rig , # 4 Kamason hook.

Most the of the time we count catfish as negative numbers, catch a cat and you go one in the hole, this means you have to catch 2 carp to get back out of the hole :D .............Todd

I guess I've had a few "negative" sessions then...

  6. Wayne,

Excellent video! I have gone a few rounds with the grassers myself, almost got knocked out by a mid twenty. She ###### slapped me good with her tail. Todd (Hawgmaster) gave me some good advice to let them get a few good runs in before netting them so they were a little less nuts - seems to work. In 2 weeks I am helping a local country club move some 30 & 40 plus fish to a different pond on the golf course via hook & line, should be a hoot.

In May 03, four of the Northeast CAG chairmen drove up to the St. Lawrence, 3 of us for our first time. With some advice form Scott O, and with some previous experience from Fran Slasinski, we found a deep water location holding some huge pre-spawn fish. We split up into 3 swims & threw out some bait. Within an hour the bite was on especially in the swim where Paul Nevadomski & I had set up. For the next 4-5 hours we barely had time to sit down between runs, with the fish banging the baits furiously. It was a memorable day, with even a couple of heavy doubleheaders to make it interesting. I tied my PB of 32.0 which I had only set the day before, with a fish taken on 3 year old strawberry boilies - thus the swim named "strawberry fields".

  8. Nice job Jerome,

I had a similar experience, with a different result. I call it a negative "3".

While fishing Candlewood Lake (CT) one night in April I had 2 rods out with maize. I had heard some fish jumping around my hookbaits but had not had any bites. I decided to try a method feeder and went about rigging my third rod for just that reason. I would have to bring in a rod first as CT only allows 2 rods per person. Just after I baited my feeder rod my left hand rod took off, causing me to drop what I had in my hands & run. Only problem was I dropped my hooklink into the margin, just on the other side of a small retaining wall. 5 minutes into the fight I saw my feeder rod sliding down the wall just feet from going in. I ran down & grabbed the rod just before it disappeared over the wall. Both fish were going in different directions so I thought I had things under control. Just as this thought registered in my mind I heard a few beeps & saw that the third rod had a drop back indication. It stopped and I said to myself "thank God!". Right after that it took off so hard I think the hanger chipped the paint on my rod... To make a long story short - I lost all 3 fish, plus broke my lantern during the fight, ending my session right then & there!
