Nice Tigers!
The only one I ever caught was under the Troy Dam in NY, on maize while fishing for carp...

My most anxious moments were probably in downtown Troy on the Hudson, with squatters rattling around the old deserted office building we wre bivvied behind at night...
Or - anywhere else I fish with Ed Wagner when golfers are around!

Wow - this post is so old I almost don't remember it!
It was from my first ever Larry trip, one I wll always remember, the day the swim was named. Cool that people still refer to it as S.F.!
Thanks for pulling it up.
P.S. that PB is long broken!

Team Wagner/Dragone also used today as a "recovery" day. I can hardly make a fist due to all the groundbait we made during the event! And the "dust" is truly in everything I own. It was more like volcanic ash...! Had a great time as well. The river proved tough at times, but with so many great anglers the fish did come to the net. Congrats to Istavan & Alin who fished to our downsteam side, they fished their butts off on Thursday & night, and to the Chicago boys and everyone else as well - fantastic job.
A special thanks to Mr. Smith and the students at the Two Rivers Magnate School (behind our peg) for the hot coffee, donuts, and support throughout the event.

Mike, I use to do that. We would just cast as far as we could, put the noodles in the pvc pipe, and wait............... HMMMMM, maybe another use for our alarms..................... gets dark in about 3hrs................ I think I'll call Kent.
You wouldn't be the first one to place a pod on that platform....
Good luck.

Bill,
You mentioned the pink & cheese worms. That was the best kept secret a few years back. We've hammered steelies & browns on them the past few years. They even outfished eggs on most days. Years ago I used to fish the estuary by boat at this time of year. Nothing like first crack at fresh fish entereing the river! Do you ever fish the outlet of the Grindstone River at the Shores? We used to fish floating sacs out 50 yards into the lake for some great steelie action this time of year.

Nice fish Bill. Catch & release is great for that fishery.
I'll be heading north for a few of those in early December.
Good angling.

there is also a shop RIGHT around the corner from charter oak park id say within 5 minutes. They should have out of state licenses. As far as I know, if youve never had a Ct license you cannot get one online, not positive though. I spoke with the owner monday and they are expecting a decent size order from resistance on friday, for any last minutes forgotten items. I know Cabelas HAS NOTHING.

I would not count on this unles you check first, they are usually out of non resident licenses by July (right Miguel?).
Your best bet is to get it right at Cabelas.

Having any big event on a large river is always a crap shoot regarding water levels, especially in the east. All it takes is a run of the mill tropical system to totally flood things out for days if not weeks. I like the Ontario idea *aside from the 1 rod thing...!
I do agree moving it around would be great for the club as a whole, to allow people who cannot travel far to participate at some point.

December Steelies
in Other Species Stories
Posted
Did our annual steelie trip this past weekend up on the Salmon River, NY - and was not disappointed! Last year was the first year they dropped the daily limit to one fish per angler (used to be three). and already I have seen a marked increase in fish numbers in the river...
Day 1 (Thursday)
My friend Joe & I decided to get an early start & hit the road at 4:30 am with plans to be in the river by 10 am. Weekends can be fairly crowded, even for steelies when the weather & fishing conditions are good, so we figured angling pressure might be light. After dropping off our stuff at the house we hit "The Glide" in the lower section (just above the DSR) to see if any "freshies" were present. In fact they were, and it did not take more than a dozen casts to find that out. The fish were quite agressive and acrobatic. Water levels were perfect, and with the grey overcast it gave the fish confidence to feed in the shallow tail out of the run. Pink Power worms were the hot bait again. as we were 4 for 7. As this was only Joe's second year up there I opted to show him another spot up river before dark. We shot up to "Elm Tree" bend (just below Trestle north), for the last hour or so before dark. It was strangely quiet, but Joe managed a steelie that he spotted & sight fished at close range. Then it was off to the house to meet the rest of the group for dinner, and to plan day #2 strategy...
Here are a few shots from day 1
