  1. Following on from Mark I will be getting some ideas locations & fish ins together I am not so North now left the wife up there lol & now in Newmarket. The kawarthas generally take a while to get going in the early spring but once we get into May it will improve.

If anyone has any sugguestions for my area let me know.

I am away with work until the 26th March then I can start formulating some of my plans, I have a local water where we could have a fish in & once I get back will approach my town to see if there is anything we can do for a take a kid fishing day there.

tight lines to all lets make this year the best yet.

  2. I've been looking around up here for some possible, and open for fishing, spots. Once the ice gets off those spots I'll give them a go. Also, it is a spot for a possible overnighter, for you guys having to drive up 2 hours. Im also up for Valley Inn or CCIW for some early season fish-ins. Even, Charles Daley?

Hey vince I am covering your area (Kawarthas etc) I am taking time out to search new & old spots to fish including Lyndsay let me know how you do. The kawarthas usually take a while to get going but you can get into them if you can find them. Once May hits as long as its warm it will explode.

    Jeff

  5. Hey my name is Nick aka "the spod" but you will have to ask the girlfriend why lol

I live in Newmarket now & will be doing my best in 2011 to get back into Carping having just had a year where I sort of lost my way from spring 2010 onwards.

My favorite type of fishing is targetting new waters for me for big fish ie 25lb + & have a whole list in the Kawarthas where I can hit riding the motorcycle where cars cannot stop for 2011.

I have many friends that I have met through Cag here in Ontario & long may that continue can never have too many fishing friends imho.

So if you see me on the shore say hi I love to talk about fishing & learn/help others.

I cannot wait till the next Can Am, where I had a complete disaster last September but now got my head together again after this years trouble for me, which was the best fun without catching a fish for me lol.

see you all out there sometime soon

  6. I normally post a few stories & pictures of any fishing adverntures I have as I like to share the ups & downs of a carper ie more specifically me. Recently I have been so busy with work & having my daughter & 4 month old grandaughter here from England with good friends also from England visiting for their vacation meaning that fishing had taken a back seat so I have no stories & few fish this year so far.

I had recently spent the last 10 days following a pod of big 30+lb Carp on my local river & struggled due to the massive weed growth this year due to rapid rise in temperature & lower water levels. I had fed them constantly with corn & pigeon feed for around 5 days & they just ate a little then moved off following a similar pattern from the last 2 springs.

I recently found that I can now get the awesome dynamite baits in Canada so after grabbing 2.5 kilos each of the 15mm pineapple plus boilies & tigernut boilies plus 2 bags of the excellent swimstim pellet I fed a little each day & they fed much longer & harder than before. I normally make my own boilies which is time consuming though worthwhile, but now I have the dynamite ones available I will keep using them as they suit my English style of fishing here & in my opinion are by far the best shelf lifes around & very affordable now they are here in Ontario. So on Friday I dropped my rig around 6 foot from a feeding Carp which looked the biggest of the group after first feeding corn boilies & pellet into a hole in the weed that the fish had created from my constant feeding. I stood high on the bank ready to race down if the fish took which is not ideal as it is a slippery steep affair & not suited to sprints from an excited carper making a dash for his bouncing rod.

After around 15 minutes my Delkim schreeched then stopped then schreeched then stopped but no line was taken, I was thinking oh no another bullhead after successfully dropping down the 30 foot embankment with unbelievable grace poise & speed, when the line peeled off with a proper carp run. I pulled into the fish praying my chod rig baited with pineapple plus snowman would hold in the thick dense & very smelly weed the fish buried itself as I expected , keeping constant pressure on this freed it only for it to kite left into more dense blankets of the stuff. This continued for around 5 minutes & it felt like I was just starting to win when the rod tip sprang back & with a massive boil on the surface the carp was gone. The air was blue of course as all the carp in the swim just disappeared so chance gone for that day. The next morning (yesterday) I walked the high bank to see around 8 very big carp present but this time they were not feeding but having a ball of a time spawning so after a big sigh it was time to head I thought for one of my favorite spots in the Kawarthas to try & make up for lost time this season with some numbers of fish.

So I arrived at 1pm a little later than I normally like to arrive with 26 degrees bright sun blue skies but a reasonable breeze in my face not entirely confident I put out 3 spods of pigeon feed with a few chopped dynamite boilies & swimstim pellets, with pinapple plus snowman rig attached to a golf ball sized pva mesh bag of chopped boilies with swimstim pellet. After around 20 minutes the alarm schreeched & a nice 19lber was banked & released. Over the next 7 hours I landed 18 Carp to 25lb 8oz which has filled me with excitement once more it was great just to be there having fun. I used both the dynamite tigernut & pineapple boilies on the hair with pineapple having the edge this time but last year on the same stretch tigernut boilies made by myself tipped the scales for me. I also used corn on the hair but the fish came up a smaller stamp than the boilie caught Carp which was a pattern I experienced last year at this spot.

Apart from the fishing it was nice to meet up again with Ron & Cory regulars to that general area & fish next to randyl (I am hopeless with names did I get that right) who took a picture of one of my fish also there were lots of dog walkers etc many of whom are of the fairer sex who it always nice to chat with (no offence lads). Not sure of my next trip but it is definately time for an overnighter now I have my bedchair thanks to Jeff Vaughan shipping it out for me & I have an overwrap for the old 60 inch brolley, proper bivvying up I call it true english style lol.

Here are 2 self takes of the day I had some lovely fish & was catching so well I had little time to photograph more.

Now that my season has finally started properly I hope to bore the pants off as many of you as I can in this section with my fishing tales.

  7. Nice to hear the baits & Jons tactics worked out very nice fish.

I have yet to wet a line in Toronto itself but have have an expat pal living right near the harbour I have to meet up with to fish there as he doesnt drive.

  8. Wow Lorne you are hard core. Great to see some fish come out for you.

Still no baby she has been in 3 times now hopefully tomorrow will be the day.

  9. Only in their stomaches expecting that first Carp of the year.

Good luck all who get down there I am on standby waiting for the imminent birth of my first grandchild its hard when they are 4000 miles away.So the carp gear is stashed for a few more weeks but of course when I get back from england there is a whole addition to my gear 2 emblem spod reels that I hope outlast the shimano big pits I destroyed this year.

  10. Brid any fish that can fold my 3lb ethos rods in half without knowing its hooked gets my vote, though yes I am a Carper & have been for a long time now .

Sometimes a change is as good as a rest & it never hurts to experiment with other species.

  11. Wow I never thought to put a report in this section Doh. Pretty stupid of me as the title is pictures stories & video who said you get wiser as you get older lol

Those are some nice Cats & a nice report.

If ever you can afford it Europe is the place for Kittys I have had 3 40lb + cats & that is nothing they go well over 100lb in some places like the ebro even the commercial carp fisheries in France like dreamlakes have well over 100lb monsters though they are a bit more slimy over there however you know youve hooked one like an express train on steroids

  12. There is as usual no right or wrong answer it depends on where you fish & what suits you.

I use 12 footers because they are more versatile for me & suit my style of fishing. I have 6 foot 6 rods for bass, pike & muskie they will catch & land carp but but not all round & I would have to carry 3 off them & 1 12 footer as well.

I like to move with the fish so if they move away from shore want to be able to reach them at any distance up to 100 metres odd ( my shoulder wont allow me to cast any further ) & zebra mussels/boulders up here dictate the rod be kept high.
