  1. Been trying to find info on fishing for them but with not a lot of success. Had six of them on Sat up to 19lb and I'm developing a liking to fishing for them. Standard carp rigs with chumming with maize seems to be bring them in.

Does anyone know where to find more info about fishing for them? Or is it a case of baiting and fishing for carp and they are a bonus?

    Thanks

  2. I dont think its spawn - all the weight was forward in the belly. I usually see spawn more towards the back end giving the fish that bulged look. It was basically a well fed fish. There are signs up all around the pond not to feed the ducks - you know how much those are followed :D . Every time I loose fed corn, the ducks made a bee line for me - they must be conditioned on something :D

  3. My daughter noticed a dead fish and goes "Daddy - fish" Went over and looked and it was a common about 12 - 15lbs. I figured it was thrown in here from the Ohio River and died. But maybe the pond had some other carp also.

Monday night after work I brought minimum tackle there. I figured that I could at least catch some gills or even trout that are stocked every year there. If I get a carp well that would be a bonus. Set up a simple float rod., found about 4' of water 3 rod lengths out and loose fed 20 grains of corn every 10 minutes or so. No baiting, no boilies, no hemp, no flavors - just canned corn on the hook and loose fed corn. About 40 minutes later notices a few fish started rolling that look like carp out at the fountain. Still no indications on the float. 20 minutes later the float slowly slips under and I struck and hey I'm into a decent fish. Strong run to the side and it stayed on the bottom. Got to the surface and it looked like a good carp. Into the net it goes and it looks even bigger as I lift it out. Man it had a huge stomach on it - really well fed. Onto the scales and it came to 22lbs 14oz - new PB. Unbelieveable! Beat my old PB by 7oz.

  4. I'm a particle man through and through - swear by them and fully confident in them. Been wanting to try and use boilies for a while but didnt feel too confident in doing so.

Anyway on the latest order to Paul I decided to get some. Ordered some TF popups to fish over a PARTICLE bed! :D . I fished a swim in a local reservoir that usually only produces June onwards but the weather has been so good it might start earlier.

Baited up with particles and fished flavoured corn on two rods plus single popup on other. Discovered you cant put freebie popups around hook bait - need some regular ones to do that!

Nothing in the morning. About mid afternoon carp started jumping and rolling everwhere. This is a good size lake 300 acres plus and as far as I could see they were crashing all around.

The rod tips started showing knocks but no takes. I contually feed particles but still no runs occured. Strange - I usually always get runs on the corn especially early in the season. This lake is never fished for carp.

Suddenly the boilie rod takes off on a screamer of a run. The fish heads for the middle. Engage the reel and feel the fish on line. Stays on for about 20 seconds and then suddenly slack. Reel back in and the line had parted above the lead. *@*#, #@#@. First run on a boilie and I loose the fish. Great. Looks like the braid got knicked on something.

Mmmm, these boilies might have something going for them. The fish here have never seen one before and the boilie produced with not even a run on the other two rods. Convert the second rod over to boilies as well. Now two single popups and a third with flavored corn.

20 minutes later the second rod takes off on another screamer. Fish heads for horizon. I stop it and get it turned and pump it to the net. Curiously no fight on the way in. Into the net it goes - not a bad fish. Hey there's another hook in its mouth. Looks familiar - its the rig I just lost 20 minutes ago minus the lead! The fish goes 18lb 6oz.

Dont know what the odds of this were but hooking and losing a fish on a single popup which came back and took an identical bait 20 mins later still trailing the original hook says a lot about the pulling power of the boilie. I'm converted!

  5. I fish a lake off a line of piling that is about 8 ft water dropping off to 20+ feet. I usually fish a three rod setup and the left rod ALWAYS produced 90+% of the fish regardless of what bait or technique I use. Evidently the fish have a left to right patrol through the swim and become ambushed on the first rod. Interestingly I've tried putting a bait to the left of the first baited area in a non baited area and it never produces. Maybe with the change of weather there is a change in the patrol patterns of the carp in the swim you are in.
