That's cool though. Different strokes for different folks. Those green cemetery ponds aren't for everybody, but they are at least a place to try for the desperate. They are most certainly some untried territory and you won't have any company. You just have to be careful to leave before dusk when that cold fog starts drifting out of the woods.

You didn't get the booby prize though. You beat my smallest fish of the year by several ounces. Keep up the good work.
That has pretty much been the story here this spring.
-
It looks like you are fishing in a cemetary.

Welcome back MO.
-
That's a beauty! I'm waiting for the "bite" to work its way north.
-
Nice start Kate. Keep it going.

Congrats on the carp MO.
I went out on the 1st, a rather nasty, damp, windy day. There were a number of open spots and I picked one of my 'good spots', stuck it out for a little over an hour without a touch, and packed it in. The 2nd was a lot nicer out and I tried again during the afternoon, until it got dark, with the same results.

This laid-back approach for the FFF sounds good. We are in for some frigid conditions here (NY) for the next few days, but then a warming trend is supposed to happen. Jan 1st is projected to be 52 degrees which will definitely work for a few hours on the water. (The weatherman is rarely wrong, right?)

Dave, You keep coming up with this steady stream of marvelous huge fish: Like you are tapped into some mystical water in the land of Tolkien.
-
Anthony,
Too bad about the late start for the contest, but like Savayman says, sign up for the fall event. With fish like those, you'll be in the running.
-
That's a torpedo! Did you measure its length?

The 22-11 is quite the sway-back. I have caught "S" shaped fish, but they were misshapen from side to side (when viewed from above).

Congratulations on getting into the Forties Club. Membership there comes hard.
A unique colored fish too-kind of ghosty.

Dave, You're unbelievable. Like the guy with the green thumb in the gardening world, who grows those huge tomatoes and beautiful flowers every year, while the rest of us can't keep the grass green. But keep those pictures coming-I love to see what big fish look like.
-
Nice, healthy, well fed looking fish. It's good to see the green grass & leaves finally showing up!
-
Nice fish. The 31-12 looks like the humpback of Notre Dame.

In New York, late May & June.

That's one serious mirror! A beauty. Looks to be almost a leather carp.
-
Nice going. It's good the streams are giving up some larger fish. The moving water must keep those carp more active and muscular-they are long and thin. They must put up a heck of a fight.

That's a beauty. I see it's another rainy day fish.

Mo,
10 seconds can be very relative. After stepping on a yellow jacket nest while mowing and getting stung while slapping and running for 10 seconds, 10 seconds can be an eternity. But in the case of trying to take a picture, 10 seconds can be a microburst in time. From trying to reposition the camera (propped up on a pail with a stone) because it moved when you pushed the button, to trying to quickly get in position with a fish, which now has a double dose of adrenalin, and is squirming and thrashing like never before because it knows you want to take a picture, you generally get halfway in position, with the carp sideways when the flash goes off. So you do this several times and hope for the best. There should be a "fishermen's setting" on cameras, with at least an additional 5 seconds of wiggle room.

It seems the whole eastern seaboard was foggy. It was foggy here, and my son said it was foggy in Georgia as well.
Congrats on your good start to 2022 with those two distinctive fish. Certainly a good omen.

After a rainy morning I got my gear together and headed out in dead calm, 54 degree weather. Unheard of around here on January first. Nothing is frozen around here either, also unheard of. Not giving myself much of a chance of success due to prior January experiences, I didn't mix up any pack, just taking bread and sweet corn for bait. It took an hour and a half, but I had a run on bread that resulted in a 3lb-15oz common. That little fish made me quite happy. That makes me "blankless" for 2022 (haha), a trend that I hope will continue through the new year. I also had a short beep on sweet corn. Now I wish I had mixed up some pack bait.

Rob,
You are certainly having an exceptional (late) season. The later it gets, the bigger your fish. Are you getting a lot of smaller carp also?

That is an unusually dark fish-a beauty. The tail looks unusual too-straight, more like a bullhead's, unless it's just the way I'm looking at the picture. Or is it a mutant carp from that cemetery pond?
