  1. I agree that a twenty is a very nice fish for your first catch. That could tend to spoil you. Unless, of course, the water behind your house is full of monsters and this is one of the smaller ones.

    It is frowned on to use any hooks (on scales etc) or gaffs on the fish. An easy way to weigh them is to bunch the net together above the fish and put the scale's hook through the mesh where bunched. To make this easier I made a large hook from 1/8th inch rod with an eye at the end. It looks like a very large fish hook. It's easy to thread this hook through the net above the fish, put the scale's hook through the eye, and weigh the fish. As I am weighing the fish I hold the net's frame and handle up so as not to weigh them along with the fish.
