Lol. I was well spent for sure.

Well, let's say we weren't quite planning to hook a bullshark on it. And I won't repeat it either. Scary sight to look at the tape on an empty spool with something weighting around 400lb on the other end in 400ft depth or so. Guess the line capacity isn't quite as great as I thought of the 5500's. After reaching the tape, I had to lock the drag and hold on for some 25 minutes. The video shows the end of the fight...
What's even more amazing is that the Almaco didn't get ripped to pieces until so late into the fight. I can just imagine, me pulling the Almaco, the bull pulling it back not willing to give up its meal. Quite a show. Later on I upgraded to proper gear to try and land one of those sharks. It wasn't a bull, but I finally got one to the boat. What a trip:

If anyone ever doubted the sturdiness of a Daiwa Infinity, check this out:

Well done and congrats to all!

Ah, the title is slightly misleading, but I am no longer a Director. Mods, be aware...

Not sure, maybe one of them fancy perks for members only?

All it took me was to delete a couple of A-holes from Facebook and that was it. Never a negative word after that...

Fully agree Bob,
BUT, having said that the "job" is never done. Even though thousands and thousands of North American carp anglers have at one point been member of CAG and many as you correctly state have branched out and started their own clubs, carp angling is still in diapers compared to Europe for example. Plenty of work to be done.
I'm really looking forward to what this new BOD will bring to the table. I would love to see a stronger focus on "Public Affairs Management" for CAG, something perhaps for Iain's plate? CAG could function as an umbrella lobby organization representing carp angler's interest at different levels of government. There are plenty local initiatives already, but maybe it's time to formalize this a little bit?
And for government to really listen, size does matter. I'm glad to see membership numbers sharply on the rise again. I hope the new BOD keeps this trend going. Get that media campaign going guys!
Tournaments and events have always been popular, and now maybe more than ever. I'm sure Bob will pull some interesting rabbits out of his hat here. Looking forward to see what's coming!
Also, I'm glad to see the NACA still going strong. By the way, if anyone is interested in helping out with the NACA, give the BOD a shout. At some point this year the NACA will need a new Editor in Chief. Anyone interested?

Well done guys!

Lol, you can come down here too Jerome. But with your camera. Got a bunch of 40's willing to pose for you.
Thanks for stepping up J. You are a huge added value to this BOD.

Don't worry Iain. You will be back some day. Just give me a call.
-
Thanks guys. Andy, if you ever need anything, you know where to find me.

Guys, this will be one of my final posts as VP and member of the BOD of CAG.
Four years ago I decided to team up with Andy and try and turn CAG around. We were deeply in the red figures, the printed NACA was bleeding us dry, many members had left and satisfaction was low. I see a different CAG now and I can't express enough thanks to all that made that happen; Andy, Neil, Willem, Brad and Dan were with us from the beginning and later Santosh and Ed joined as well. What an absolute honor it has been to work with you guys. True professionals, even though we are all volunteers. I wouldn't doubt a second to work with you in any business and I'm lucky enough to be able to consider you my friends. Great work also by the State Chairs who helped without personal interest to promote CAG and carpfishing.
A huge shout-out as well to Salvador Castanedo who has proven absolutely crucial in bringing back the NACA with his creative genius and tireless energy.
But most importantly it has been fantastic to meet CAG members in real life (oddly enough I never met any BOD member other than Santosh ), discuss with you online, and with many I spoke on the phone also, discussing baits and strategies. This is what really made it worth it.
Sadly enough the growth of my business doesn't allow me any more to continue my work with CAG. I have manufacturers, distributors, logistics providers, installers, architects and clients to deal with and with 500% growth this year, things have gotten a little out of hand. I think my family will be happy to see me a bit more also.
I will stay on as a CAG member of course and hopefully will find some time to fish as well. Salt water is luring me, but carp fishing will always keep a special place in my heart. So count on me for sharing some fishing adventures!
Good luck Bob and Iain! I'm sure you will make this CAG bigger and better.
Saludos!!!
Mario

Well done Daniel. Fantastic fish, great angling!!!! Wish I could have made the trip.

In the last few weeks I probably spent more money on lures, jigging and light spinning rods, reels and fly gear than the last 9 years on carp stuff. The saltwater bug hads bitten me badly.
Sal and I had a pretty unfortunate trip to Veracruz due to bad weather, but what fun it was. We started out trolling and casting the coral reefs but then the storm came in. We ended up hiding in the mangroves catching baby tarpon.
We'll get our revenge on the Trevally, Cuda's and big Tarpon. For now, the carp rods will be locked up for a while. I need some salt water monsters now...

As soon as I find a US vendor with reasonable shipping for large objects to Mexico, I´ll be all over it. Apparently the Mexicans are a little bit more creative with shipping large bundles from Mexico to the US.

Don't worry Wrestler; Rebel has a cradle fit for an alligator gar.

I wouldn't...self timer solves the picture issue; I would say fish safety outweighs ego. I you feel you must, make sure you catch is well secured and don't sack for more than a few hours. Don't ever sack in heavy currents and less so with boat traffic. Sack in deep water and out of direct sunlight.
I have see too many pictures, here on CAG also, with lots of missing scales.

you gotta play to win!
My current top 4 is over 170lb. And I needed less than 24 hours for it. You sure you want me to play?
By the way, I fished sweetcorn that day...

Do Giant Trevally and Tarpon count? I'm crossing over to the dark side again in May.
