  1. Wow, that means everything used for chumming is illegal. Because of the wording of "any material used for attracting fish," I would even worry about using PVA bags and method feeders. It sounds to me that even attaching a PVA bag to the hook, even if it does not contain food materials, would be considered illegal because of the wording. I believe interpretation of the regulations is left up to the DNR officer unless you have a special permit or the rule has been challenged in court and a specific definition has been given to the rule or an exception. You really need to talk to the Director of the DNR and find out the correct definition for this rule. Be sure to get it in writing. If you do not like the ruling, then you might have to challenge it in court. The DNR might rather just compromise or give an exception for carp fishing than fight it out in a court of law.

  2. The CIFC League Tournament at Sangchris Lake was a success. Cold weather limited our numbers to just five anglers, but we still caught a few fish. Two of the anglers formed a two person team representing one angler. Each fished with one rod and occupied the same peg. It seemed to work well for them, so keep that in mind if you want to fish with someone. Below is the current League Standings.

    1. Paul Scott (7pts)

    2. Cole Ashby & Andrew Lomelino (4pts)

    3. Phil Rochey (2 pts)

    3. Shannon Strohkirch (2 pts)

The top ten anglers will qualify for the end of the season Championship.

Next up is Lake Lou Yeager. The average size of fish in this lake is much larger. In just a few trips, I have caught two 15-pound carp and watched an angler land a stringer of Channel Catfish weighing between 5 and 8 pounds each. There are also Flathead Catfish in the Lake. Rumor is that the lake is home to both Grass Carp and Buffalo although I have not caught any. I have only fished this lake about five times over the last two years, and have caught something every time. I am suspecting that the 15 pound marker is probably a typical or average weight for carp in the lake. The upper limits are probably 20+ pounds. I have heard stories of huge carp beings caught here, so who knows what we will get. Also, the Fathead Catfish are huge in this lake with most tipping the scale in the 40 to 60 pounds range.

The CIFC Lou Yeager Lake Tournament is scheduled for May 25, 2013. We will meet at the large boat launch area located about the center of the lake. There is a fenced off swimmers beach at this location and a large parking lot. This location was very productive in May last year. Most likely, the winner will need to average 10 pounds per a fish to win this event, if not more. Everyone is very excited about this lake, and we are expecting a lot more anglers to join us.

If you want to join us, please let me know. I will add you to the list and you will be guaranteed a spot. Entry fee is $25 and $5 to join the League. You do not have to join the League to fish the tournament, but you will not be able to qualify for the Championship Tournament if you do not. Right now, there are six open slots for that tournament.

League members earn points for every tournament he/she fishes. 1 point is awarded for participation. Anglers can earn additional points by doing well during a tournament. 1st place earns you 5 points, 3 points for 2nd place, and 1 point for 3rd place. Also, the largest fish of the tournament earns you an additional 1 point. The maximum amount of points you can earn each tournament is 7 points.

100% of all entry fees collected are returned to the anglers in the form of cash prizes. $5 of every entry fee paid goes into the Championship Tournament prize pot, and then the rest is divided among the winners of the current tournament. So, $5 goes for the Championship and $20 goes for the current tournament's prize pot to be more precise. If there are 10 or fewer anglers participating, the breakdown is 80% goes to the angler who catches the five largest qualifying fish and 20% go to the angler who landed the largest fish. If 11 to 20 anglers participate, then the breakdown is 40%, 30%, 20%, and 10% for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Largest Fish.

The next tournament will have a strict space limit of 20 anglers. You must contact me by email to reserve a spot. If you have not shown up to the tournament by 6:45 a.m. you lose your spot unless you call me and let me know you are coming, so I can get your name in the peg draw. You can also show up the day of the tournament, but priority will be given to those already on my list.

Registration for all tournaments starts at 6:00 a.m. and ends at 6:45 a.m. Peg draw will take place sharply at 7:00 a.m. You need to have your name in the peg draw to participate in the tournament. The tournament officially starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. Winning cash prizes are awarded at 5:00 p.m. Competitors have an hour to clean up and pack.

Contact me at pasasap2@yahoo.com for more information or to reserve your spot for the next tournament. Also, check us out on Facebook at Central Illinois Fishing Club.

Hope to see more of you on Saturday, May 25.

    Paul Scott

One extra note. We have decided to let anglers draw two pegs and then choose from them. Anglers will be given 30 seconds to decide.

  3. Last call for anyone interested in fishing the CIFC Sangchris Lake tournament tomorrow, Saturday, April 20, 2013. We will be meeting on the dam side of the lake. If you are facing the lake, we will be in the far cove left of the spillway and dam. There are docks across from where we will be meeting, but right now they are under water. We should still be able to fish there though. Registration will start at 6:00 a.m. Peg draw will start at 7:00 a.m. If you miss the peg draw, then you missed the tournament. There will be a short break for everyone to get set up before the start of the tournament. Tournament starts at 8:00 a.m. No fishing or chumming until 8:00 a.m. This is a big five event, so only your five largest qualifying fish will be weighed. Fish that will count include carp (Kio, common, leather, and mirror), buffalo suckers, catfish (Flathead, Blue, and Channel), and grass carp. There will also be a smaller prize for largest fish. If we have ten or fewer competitors, then the payout will be 80% for the winner and 20% for largest fish. If there is 11 to 20, then the payout will be 40%, 30%, 20%, and 10% for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and largest fish. Entry fee is just $25. You do not have to join the League to fish the tournament, but the League fee has been reduced to just $5, and that is just a one time fee. Only League members can qualify for the championship tournament to be fished at the end of the season. $5 of every entry paid will go into the Championship prize pot. This way the championship should payout double the normal events. There will also be a door prize for one lucky angler. This prize will be awarded at the end of the tournament, and can be won only by someone who did not win a cash prize. We have nine anglers signed up for Saturday, so there is still plenty of room for all. We are limiting the field to 20.

Hope to see some of you there tomorrow!

  5. Check out Central Illinois Fishing Club on Facebook. Also, take a peak at the IL page in the Mid West section. CIFC will be hosting a shoreline fishing league for anyone interested in fishing for carp and catfish. The tournaments are not too far from St. Louis that you could not cross the border to fish them. Contact me, Paul Scott, at pasasap2@yahoo.com for more information or to join the league. There will be a limit of 20 league members, so contact me ASAP to join before we fill up. It cost just $10 to join the league. Tournament entry fees are just $25. League members can score points to qualify for the end of the season championship. It is just a lot of fun for anyone who likes to fish for Carp, Buffalo, Grass Carp, and/or Catfish from the shoreline. Come join the fun, contact me today.

  6. The CIFC has decided not to require anglers to pay for the entire season ahead of time to join the league, but, instead, you just need to contact me and let me know you are interested at pasasap2@yahoo.com.

Then, you must show up for the first tournament at Sangchris Lake to pay your $10 League fee and the $25 entry fee to fish the tournament. We are limiting the league to just 20 anglers because we only have enough bank space at some of the other tournaments for that number of people. Also, keep in mind that you can join as a two-person team and fish as one person. This rule is in case someone wants to fish with someone else like a child. You must be 16 to fish without an adult present and anyone under the age of 18 must have a guardian sign their Liability Waiver. All anglers must sign Liability Waivers to participate.

Last, if there are any spots left in the league come April 20, 2013, then a fish-off at the Sangchris Lake tournament will decide who fills the remaining spots. So, contact me now, if you want to guarantee your spot in the CIFC League.

You are not required to join the league to fish a tournament, but only League Members can qualify for the championship. League members will get priority over non-members if there is a spacing issue. For the Sangchris Lake tournament there will be plenty of room for everyone to attend. We will meet on the dam side of the lake near the Handicap Docks bank fishing area.

Below are the names of anglers who have already signed up for the league.

    1. Shannon Strohkirch

    2. Phillip Rockey

    3. David Kline

    4. Louis Ashby

    5. Cole Ashby

  7. The Central Illinois Fishing Club is going to be hosting a shoreline fishing tournament league this year. Check us out on Facebook:

    https://www.facebook.com/CentralIllinoisFishingClub

The idea is to have four tournaments on four different venues and then one championship at the end of the season. Since carp will count, this is a great opportunity for all Central Illinois Carp Anglers to test their skills in competition. The fish types that will count in the CIFC tournaments are Buffalo Suckers (any species), Carp (common, Kio, leather, and mirror), Grass Carp (White Amur), Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish, and Flathead Catfish.

Please visit us on Facebook for more information and keep checking for my post here too. Once we have the dates set, I will post all the information.

  8. Hello guys,

The Central Illinois Fishing Club (CIFC) based out of Virden,

Illinois, is thinking about starting a multi-species shoreline fishing league.
Basically, the plan is to host four tournaments on four different venues and
then have a "Top Ten" championship event at the end of the season.
What I am doing is trying to find out if anyone on CAG would be interested in a
tournament series like this one in Central Illinois. Here are some details
about the tournaments. Please keep in mind that this league might not happen, but
it is being considered. The CIFC is just looking to see how many anglers
would be interested if they hosted the league.

The CIFC wants to host four events on four different lakes
centered close to Virden, Illinois. They are in the process of getting
permission to host tournaments on the following lakes; Lake Springfield
(Springfield), Otter Lake (Girard), Sangchris Lake (near Springfield), Lake Lou
Yaeger (Litchfield), Carlinville Lake (Carlinville), and Leisure Lakes (Chatham
    pay lake).

The fish types that would count are Blue Catfish, Channel
Catfish, Flathead Catfish, Carp (Common, Mirror, Leather, and Kio), Buffalo
Suckers (Bigmouth, Smallmouth, and Black), and Grass Carp (White Amur). All
tournaments would be big five events where only the largest five fish caught by
each competitor would count for the total weight or in other words a five fish
limit. Culling of the smallest fish would be allowed until the end of the
tournament. The CIFC is not promoting any one kind of fish species, but instead
is more interested in promoting shoreline sport fishing by offering tournaments
    to bank anglers.

The tournaments would be shoreline only events and no boats
including remote boats would be allowed. The pegging system would be used to
determine fishing spots just like in carp fishing tournaments.

These events would all be catch-and-release tournaments. Fish

care is most important to the CIFC. All fish including those that do not count
will be handled with the greatest of care and released back into the lake unharmed.
The exception would be fish being used for bait for catfish like shad and
bluegill. Anglers would be required to have a fish friendly keep sack and unhooking
mat to participate in the tournaments.

Only baits safe for fish to eat would be allowed. Only lures

with at most one hook could be used. Treble hooks would NOT be allowed either.
Only one hook per a rod and a limit of two rods being fished at a
time. Stinger rigs and double rigs would not be allowed nor lures with two
    hooks or more.

If the CIFC tournaments attracted ten or more competitors, then
there would be three places awarded, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place plus largest fish.
If fewer than ten anglers participated, then the winner would take all, plus
there would be a smaller big fish prize. There would still be points
awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, but more on that later.

Entry fee would most likely be $25 each tournament plus $10 (one time
only fee) to join the League. The fee would be used to pay for peg flags, score
sheets, pens, and awards like medals. $5 of every $25 paid would go into the
championship pot. So, if ten competitors showed up for a tournament, then $250
in entry fee money would be collected. $50 of that entry fee money would go
into the championship tournament purse and the other $200 would be split among
the winners of the current tournament. The remaining entry fee would
be split 40% for 1st place, 30% for second place, 20% for third place, and 10%
for the largest fish for a grand total of 100% payout. At the end of the
season, there would be a "Top Ten" Championship. Anglers would pay
the same entry fee as normal, but the prize purse would be increased by the
money collected from the other four tournaments. So, this is a 100% payback
tournament format. And if the CIFC could find sponsors to donate prizes, then
there could also be tackle prizes in addition to the cash prizes. Most likely,
cash would be awarded at all the league events, but no medals; however, at the
championship tournament winners would also get medals. The CIFC is considering
a Champions' Plaque or traveling trophy too.

Participants in each tournament would not have to join the
league, but joining the league would be required to qualify for the
championship tournament. The CIFC has decided to award points instead of using
weight totals to determine who qualifies for the "Top Ten"
championship. Each competitor would receive one point just for participation.
The Largest Fish winner would score an addition point. Third place would also
get an additional point, second place would score three additional points, and
the winner of the event would get five additional points. This was decided so
that an angler could not bury the competition by landing a huge weight total at
one tournament. The CIFC wants the anglers who do the best over a course of a
season to qualify for the championship not an angler who gets lucky once on the
right venue. Also, some venues will produce heavier bags than other venues.
This system pretty much insures that every venue score evenly because the most
any one competitor could score at any one event is seven points (1 point for
participation + 1 point for Largest Fish + 5 points for winning the tournament
    = 7 points total).

What the CIFC wants to know is
how many anglers in Illinois would be interested in participating in the
League? The CIFC will not host the league if I am not able to find at least ten
anglers committed to fishing the league in 2013. So, if you might be interested
    please let me know. Thanks.

  9. Are you going to post a list of the competitors participating? Normally, there is a list showing each competitor and the team (if any) he or she is fishing with or who is sponsoring them (if any). Usually, it is a numbered list at the front of the post. Normally, it also shows who has paid in full, who has paid the deposit, and where the competitor is coming from. Maybe I missed it, but I did not see it.

  10. To all my CAG friends,

I am not going to say anything negative here. My time with CAG has had more ups than downs. I am just going to say thank you to all the kind people who I have met partly thanks to CAG, but mostly thanks to the many carp fishing tournaments that I have entered. This decision is personal, and what I believe is best for me. I will continue to visit this forum from time to time, but as a guest. My membership ends sometime next month, so I just wanted to say, "Good bye," to those anglers that I only talk to on this forum or visit with at CAG functions. Since my dedication to carp fishing is heavily centered around tournaments, I am sure I will continue to meet many of you at these events. I plan to continue to fish all types of shoreline fishing tournaments, and could see some of you at pay lake tournaments or even derbies.

Take care all and God bless.

    Paul Scott

  11. HI guys,

I tried to get some other anglers to go, but in the end, it was just my wife and I that fished despite decent weather. Here are the results and some photos.

  12. I am interested in fishing derbies and tournaments from the shoreline. I am not looking for exact dates, but some information about annual events or tournaments in the works. What I need to know is what type of event, where it will most likely take place, fees and prizes, what species of fish count, and the month when it should be scheduled to take place in 2012. I am interested in all events from derbies to pay lake to professional level tournaments.

Please post here any information you might have about 2012 bank fishing events in Indiana.

  13. I probably will not fish again in Illinois until the temperatures are back into the high 50's, sometime at the end of March or in April, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a tentative schedule of what will be going on carp tournament wise in IL in 2012?

  14. Jeff,

Yeah, I am not getting anywhere either. I do not understand why nothing is being posted when I keep hearing from others that something is going on there. The problem is that nobody knows the details and my attempt to contact people who are supposed to know have failed. Either the rumors are just rumors and nothing is going on anymore or it is a huge secret. If you hear anything please let me know. Thanks. Paul

I'm in st louis and have posted in the forums in search of other carp anglers in the area and blanked. I am not aware of any tournaments or groups but I would be interested if there were. I know there are quite a few carp anglers in the area from the remains of corn cans on the banks but that's about it.

  15. Is anyone doing anything in Missouri in 2012?

Will there be any carp tournaments? Are there any pay lake tournaments in Missouri? Is there any kind of bank style tournaments as all in Missouri? Is there a carp fishing league in Missouri? Please post any information you have here. Thanks.

  16. The 2011 Hoosier Carpers' Tournament Trail season has come to an end and three Illinois native CAG members have walked away with the top awards and prizes! Illinois CAG members had a hand in winning every major award or prize the HCTT had to offer.

Frank Rink was the 2011 HCTT League Season Champion, Paul Scott was the 2011 HCTT League Season Largest Fish Winner and Fish Fighters' Heavy Weight belt, and Mike Olinger was the 2011 "Top Ten Tournament of Champions" event winner

Paul Scott also joined forces with Team Fish Fighters founder James Sanders (Indiana native) to win the 2011 HCTT Indiana Carp Team Championship Tournament. James and Paul took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for Largest Fish in that tournament too.
