Been hooked up a few times myself but being a barbless hook user means no trips to the ER ,if you cant get barbless in your favorite hook pattern then just squish the barb down the little bump left still helps to hold the hook in the fishes mouth but also acts like a barbless hook if you have any misfortunes.

Welcome aboard Dave,could you be a bit more speciffic with your location in NJ i could try and help put you on a some other waters that are near by.I live in Milford (near Clinton and spruce run )
Towards the end of Sept my self and Hairrigger will be setting up various fish in events around NJ and also a Delaware river session (border wars ) to keep us busy into the fall ,generally the fishing can be sporadic during the summer and then of course you can get a lot of attention from our friends the snapping turtle's which is why we not really put any fish in's out there this summer.

That was a quality series,and had some great scenes in.
