Are the metal looking beads at the top meant to make it sink, or are they just plastic with metallic paint? I am looking for some large, dry flies, I guess you call them, since my carp are always chasing mayflies on the surface. Nice looking flies for sure!! Sorry for the dumb questions, as I am really a know nothing when it comes to fly fishing.

True, it's not a Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio), but it IS a cyprinid; in other words, it IS related to "our" Carp. We have a picture of those guys with their fish in our shop.
A Golden Shiner and a Fathead Minnow are also Cyprinids, but we don't go around calling them Carp!

Take care now. That's more pasty white flesh on display than the membership needs!
John
At least my tumbleweed was native rather than a pesky invasive!
Hee, hee, at least you are not showing us the plumber crack!! That was a fine specimen of a tumbleweed in anyone's book. Too bad we forgot the photos!!

Wayne, isn't it crazy how little meat you actually get off a cat when you're all done!! They are so heavy in the head, rib cage and guts departments! I bet you will be eating those fillets up soon!!

What are 8-tracks ?
I'm sorry Jim, I think Scotty meant, ditch the reel to reel!!! Or ditch the 78 records!!!

Bramley strikes again!! Fantastic fish John, but nothing new from you, sir!!

Nicely done fellas!!

Nicely done, way to get the boy into some carp!!!
-
Good job, and great write up!! Never too young to get them hooked!!!
-
Good looking Blue Cat Wayne, I'll bet that was a good fight!!
-
Hey Jerome, tell Iain that is definitely better than a tumbleweed!!!

Great going Andy, it's fun fishing in 40 degree temps isn't it!! Nice fish for sure!!!

South Dakota it is. For at least one of the trips. John I will try to get hold of you as my trip nears.
I am thinking it will probably be in July or August. Perhaps more time if things go well.
July and August are both great months here because it does not get as hot as other places, and the carp are totally on the feed in those months. Plus, there are not as many boat fishermen because it is considered the 'dog days' for other species. My cell phone# is 605-999-0277, and I can be reached on it more than my home phone, because I also work on the road. Yeah, give me a call when it gets closer, and I will know where I'll be working and all of that, and when I need to pre-bait some swims with 500 pounds of cracked corn!!! That really puts them on the feed!!!

Looks like a great time was had by all!! Way to go 'Hooch Crew'!! Horace, it looks like you boys might have just found a new favorite carpin' hole!! Are there any Waffle Houses nearby?

Where in South Dakota?
Michigan was already on my list of places actually. I drive by Ford and Kent Lakes all the time and felt they were a must fish this year.
I drive truck for a living and get to see all kinds of water that I want to fish but can only drive right on by.
I am on the East side of the state, just 45 miles North and West of Sioux Falls, in Madison. I have 3 lakes within 8 miles of town that have 30+ fish in them, and two with nice state park campgrounds. Then there is big Lake Thompson about 40 miles North and west of me, that would be your best shot a 40+ and a mirror, and it also has a nice state park campground. All of the lakes out here have plenty of public fishing areas, and you will catch loads of fish. Thanks

he hasnt been gov for a few years now but perhaps we can find him and see if he still likes to fish for them
Exactly, because he is still a celebrity. That could be some good PR!!!

Way to start off the season, oh Mon Master!! Wow, we are still at least 2-3 weeks away from open water in my neck of the woods!!! I'm jealous!! Great job Justin!!
-
Nice mix of white and black crappies there Gary. Around my area we generally only see the black variety. How thick is the ice getting where you're at? We have about 35 inches in eastern SD.

Great going Vern, Carp and Reds, must be rough!! Nice looking skeeter center console. They make a fine walleye boat too, with a deeper V for hitting the big waves. I have never caught a decent sized redfish, but I bet they are scrappers on light line!!
-
Way to go kid, that is a beautiful Striper!!! Keep it up and you will be in the 30's and 40's in no time!!

Nicely done, sir!! I wish we buffs like that around my area!!
