  1. Had a rather surprising session of 2 days and 3 nights for the the holiday.

Got off from work on Wednesday and head home for a shower and bite to eat.

Got the car loaded and headed out giving Chris a call to let him know I was headed out.

Despite a little traffic along the way,I still arrived within two and a half hours.

Chris was already getting set up as I pulled in and things were on their way.

Method made and baits chosen, with lines in the water at 7:30 the wait began.

Per the usual the bite started out slow, but no doubt that it would pick up in the early am.

As is normal we had people stop by showing interest in our gear.Taking the time to explain

and show them how we do things is always part of the experience.

During the night the dreaded catfish population moved in and wreaked havoc on our baits.

We were definitely out numbered and not a single one weighed more than a pound.

It was a long, sleepless, and frustrating night for the both of us.However we were determined not to let it beat us.We just knew the carp would move in and chase them off.Was I ever wrong about them moving out though, they were relentless.

Then finally at 6:31 on the 4th the first carp came to Chris weighing in at 16.0 lbs.

They were finally here, but not as we had seen before. In between the small cats and a few small commons.Chris managed another at 9:32 coming in at 15.4 lbs.I still kept getting catfish as Chris got some smaller carp.

The cats still pestered him as well, but we kept at it sure we would win.The next decent fish came to me at 12:13 to my surprise it was a mirror weighing 11.14 lbs,and a new PB for me.Not expected at all for my first catch and

the first mirror out of this lake by us.

The temps were rising as we started seeking out the little shade we had around us.

The small cats and commons were the only things taking our baits for over 8 hours on this day.It wouldn't be until 8:45 that evening until the 4th fish was banked by Chris.

Being that is was the holiday a multitude or people had shown up and we were surrounded.Fire works being shot off, drinking, and yelling going on all over.

Now we had this common one the bank and the family descends on us trying to guess the weight.Barely able to get the fish in the sling with what little room we had and trying to be polite.

We told them the fish was a lot less than what they thought. It was another 16.0 lb common.Things were looking up once again with night time settling in on us.At least it was getting dark and the heat was dissipating.

We had changed up baits trying to see if they just wanted another flavor.Bottom baits to pop ups these ,fish just weren't being caught like before. The smaller fish kept coming for 30 minutes or so and keeping us busy.At 9:19 Chris had a decent run that held our attention as we brought it to the net.Lifting the fish out of

the water, I told Chris I think he broke the 20 mark for the first time this trip.As we put it on the scale the needle sat at 20.2 lbs.

Once again the bite slowed up and we decided to get some rest for the night. We left our lines in the water in hopes something nice would wake us.Sometime around 3 in the morning Chris had got another run in and had it on the bank.I was sleeping so hard due the the lack of sleep I had the night before.I never heard

    a sound.

Chris told me about it after I woke and said he didn't want to wake me for it.This fish came in at 23.0 lbs and decided to try and beat itself upon the bank as well as Chris. After getting the weight he got it back in the water asap.Keeping the fish from doing more damage to itself was worth more than getting a picture.

It was now the 5th and the holiday was past us.People were gone and we had a little peace. The time to try something different was at hand.We had to try something to see if the fish would respond better. Now we had baited out with some method and range cubes to bring the fish into our swim.We just hadn't be able to get the good bite as we've been able to in the past .

Perhaps the fish just weren't in the area this time around. We had planned on leaving that morning, but decided to stay until noon.

This turned out to be a good thing for Chris as at 9:24 on a range cube sprayed with the pineapple amino aroma. It brought in a nice mirror carp weighing 18.0 lbs.We now had 2 mirrors on the bank and we hadn't even talked about getting any from this swim. That catch made us decide to stay another full day, just to see

what else we might be able to produce. As the day progressed it was more of the same for us.

Small commons and cats just kept coming at us.We had pulled out the bass rods to rig with range cubes.Which is what Chris's mirror had come on.We kept the normal carp baits on the euro gear, just in hopes. It was 10:17 at night when I had a run on my bass rod spooled with 10 lb test the cube and amino spray as bait.

This fish just kept pulling steadily on the line. Not too fast, but hard enough to keep the rod bent good.It didn't go to one side or the other as other fish have.As we got it in the net I began to wonder if it was the same

fish I had caught in past.

It had the same popped out eyes and had been bowfished before. It looked as we had it on the mat and in the sling. The wound was in a different location than the 24.4 I had caught before. But it was still a nice catch weighing in at 22.4 lbs.We rebaited all of our lines and both went to get some rest for the night.Maybe a good run would wake us up during the night.

That was the last run of the night however. Not a single sound from our alarms over night. When we woke we pulled our lines in,finding a few small cats not big enough to move the leads.Turtles had left us fishing on credit on the other lines as well.Lines back in the water,we started to pack things up for the trip home.I managed a small common on a cube and bass rod.Chris got a small cat out of that cast.

The euro rods got taken off the pods and put away, with bass rods in place.

Most everything was packed away and we sat and talked a little. It was now past 8:00 and we were getting ready to pull the bass rods in and head out. Then Chris gets a good run and as we wait for it to come in.

I comment about us being in trouble if we get a double. As the fish is almost in the net I get a run and Chris gets to net his fish.Mine was coming in running at the bank,so he leaves the net in the water. Not as big as the one in the net,but still a double.Chris's weight 15.0 lb and mine 9.0 lbs to end the trip.

We never saw the trip working out the way it did.None the less it was time spent on the bank in anticipation of what the waters might give us.Good friends, good baits, and always a pleasure to be

    out at the lake.

  2. Had another good session with the compulsion baits. Was a little slow, but with several catches still produced.Despite the abundance of small catfish in the area we managed so nice commons.
Got to the swim at 8:00 pm where I met up with Chris and Ben.After saying my hello's,I set up shop and had my lines in the water. With in the first hour I had a healthy common at 16.4 on the bank. There were a few smaller commons brought in before I had put a 19.12 on the bank 2 hours later. Then next notable catch came less than 30 minutes later from Chris.
A few smaller commons came along with small catfish that had moved in.Chris brought the next picture worthy common in 3 hours later,in the early am hours. We had been trying to get a little shut eye with the bites being in the slow side. With that said the next decent catch came an hour later, once again from Chris. After getting a slight bit of rest daylight broke and we were back up and got our lines reset. The final and biggest of the session came within 30 minutes weighing 23.0.
Storms were heading in and we decided it was time to pack up and head for home.
The other fish caught were between single and lower teen digits. The lighting in most pictures are poor due to the lack of light we had.But with all said here are the pictures. All were caught on the WCB Compulsion boilies.

  3. As Bill has posted we care looking for other members to help out.As Texas is as big as it is I could use some help.

I can cover north central, but I could use help in other areas where you might be more familiar with than myself.

If you are willing please submit you letter of intent.Austin,Houston, and other areas would be helpful.

This will allow more fish ins to be set up across our state.

    Thank you in advance

  4. A very big THANK YOU to Neil,Willem,Mike and the Austin Carp Anglers for all they did this year to make sure the event went as well as it did.

To all that attended and fished,it was great to meet and spend time with you all. It's great to see a our sport growing with the younger anglers that are coming into the fold.We couldn't ask for better people to spend time on the bank with. For the ones from out of state, you are more than welcome to come back any time you'd like

Hell of a job by everyone that was a part of this.simply put outstanding.
