  2. Beautiful pics, Simon, as usual.

I was 2 hours from you one week ago, locked in biz meetings in Auckland. But no way I could fit a day of fishing in the agenda... Grrr. Next time!

its a shame you didnt have more time! it would have been great to meet up... let me know if you are ever in nz and have a bit of spare time :D

  3. the first pic was taken yesteday... when i got the koi i was already dealing with a hybird similar to the one i had during the night a few weeks ago. I had to get a person going for a walk to hold the rod while i un-hooked the hybrid and put it back so i could use the net for the koi :D

  4. love those fish.. my wife has a couple scrapbooking friends in NZ... trip maybe???

they live Christ Church area and Invacargill... is that near you????

unfortunately all the carp are in the north island in the auckland/waikato area... i live in hamilton which as you can see is a fair way away from invercargill :D

got this 12.5lb bad boy on the float rod using 6lb line! it took a fair bit of playing before i managed to get it in!

here is a shot of the lake in the late afternoon

  6. They should be- yellow perch are a disaster for trout fisheries. Several dozen former trout streams in the US are no longer because of perch and sunfishes (inc black bass).

Are there any native trout to NZ or are they all imports as well?

all trout are imports to nz just like the coarse fish... but since trout are seen as awesome game fish everything else is seen as rubbish.

  7. they were introduced around the turn of the century by the accliamtisation society's... basically they were trying to make nz like england! its a pity they didnt introduce commons and mirrors here to! or pike for that matter.

  8. Check out these big Perch! this guy has been catching them on a regular basis this size! the lake is also a great trout fishery but now all the trout anglers are up in arms because Perch got in there somehow! naturally they blame coarse fishermen.....

  9. Here are the pics from today... I took a guy called Doug out for his first real carp fishing session at Lake Ngaroto. The annoying thing was that he caught all the fish at my spot!! :D i didnt catch anthing except a small hybrid on my float rod while he got all the decent ones!

    A nice 6lber

And not long before we left he got a bloody 12lber!!
