Also i was trying out the bent hook susbtitute rig today and had the most hookups ive ever had! i caught four fish in total but the one above was the biggest by far. All i've been doing is using sweetcorn with about 3 or 4 kernels on the hook, is anyone else using that rig?

Went fishing here today (Its the Waikato River in Hamilton not far from my house)
and caught this nice koi carp!

why would he eat a fish that was so valueable? koi are expensive!
not in NZ.... they are considered a noxious pest fish by our Fish and Game Department and must be killed as soon as you catch them (most people dont though). You arent even allowed to own them to put in your own fish ponds without a special dispensation.

are those tiny fins an indication of anything?
I wondered that to... its doesnt look the same as pictures of wild brown goldfish i've seen.

I'm with Scotty on this one, some sort of hybrid, the lack of decent barbels on the mouth and the spotting on the lateral line are the give away.
Are you from New Zealand? Got any good Koi pictures?
yes only some small ones though... Also i realise i should have used a to put these fish on but these ones were destined for Tau's dinner table (a chinese guy i fish with sometimes)

Hi Everyone I've been lurking around on the forums for a while and finally got arround to registering. I was wondering if anyone could indentify this fish i caught the other day.... As far as anyone knows there are no common carp in NZ only Koi but this looks like one to me.

Its 5 minutes drive from my house
The river runs right through Hamilton and is chock full of Koi Carp.
