Okay guys,
March madness is here, just watched KU put up 109 points against Texas Tech! They were draining it from all over the court.
Looks like we have 9 folks done tying, and 3 have shipped to me. Give me an update on your progress, and I'll update the main post. Remember, please include a self addressed stamped envelope if you want your flies sent back to you! A few bucks for shipping will work as well.
Mike
Wow - very sorry that I demonstrated such poor etiquette. It's been a year or so since I've done a swap... I SENT NO SASE and NO MONEY. Geez... I will send a couple bucks sometime soon. Sorry for the extra hassle on your end.

Not necessarily. Seems like with some flies it's very clear that it will land in one particular position... Here the legs will either prop it up or wave in the water above the fly if it lands hook down. I modeled this after Zonker's fly.
-
Just listened to an entire Beck album and drank some St. Pauli Girl Special Dark, while wrapping up this lot of flies. Done then. I paged through this topic twice, but I can't see an address to which I should I send them... please excuse if I am missing something obvious (otherwise please post).
Thanks,
WB
Can't wait to get these flies.... the pics I'm seeing here are depicting some pretty devastating patterns.
-
My pattern is decided now, and it's here. I won't try to post a pic from my web log, because I always get the RED X.
-
I think I will contribute the fly that caught me the unofficial world-record carp-on-micro-fly-rod:
This fly was actually sent to me by Zonker, via a mini-swap we did a while ago. I hope he doesn't mind.
-
Let's do it. I can't tell if this string was spawned from the previous discussion of patterns... either way, let's swap man.
-
What a bad*ss collection of carp flies. Let's swap it up!!
-
Great story and cool photos. Congratulations. You see what you see... pick up the rod and feel the weight... you're over dude! Say goodbye to other lesser forms of fishing.
-
John Montana already posted the Buffalo Days bit... thanks for that. Here is one more account - this one was cool, because I sight-fished to it while it was feeding in the current:
-
It holds approx 12-15 of fly line, and some backing.... altogether not much more than ~20 feet. I should measure it to be precise. The first three carp I hooked on it ran to blank spool and I had to break them off. It was pretty funny... quite a rush too - especially because I had to jump down the banks to fight each carp.
Most of you probably saw this... but just in case - here is the original blog entry from that day:
-
15 lb 14 oz carp caught on micro fly rod
It's the beast I caught a few months ago... I think there was a topic in this forum.
-
Two carp dudes toting fly rods all over MN looking for grubby water. That's what it was, and it was fantastic. See links below...
-
Great fish. Very few scales - almost leathery.
Of course your wife thinks you're nuts... would you have it any other way?
-
Me too. The blogs are linking like crazy around here... nice little community.
-
Glad you finally got a reply. They are a small group, so they don't always communicate in a timely manner. When I bought mine they threw in a "free" rod case... probably a standard addition, but make sure you get one.
-
A year ago John Montana and I caught ~150 fish, of which probably one quarter were carp... all nymphing with an indicator. Here is the post:
http://fishingandthinking.blogspot.com/200...-was-great.html
I have found nymphing for carp without an indicator to be difficult.
Sight fishing is by far the best means of approaching carp, IMO.... both with respect to effectiveness and reward for the angler. See my previous topic called something like "I am in love with images of carp takes" etc.

Thanks guys.
For those who asked about where to get one - see previous post in this string for J. Austin Forbes website.
Regarding carp flies tied by Zonker and John Montana - there are none better. Carp bleeping love those flies, and I've personally watched them RUN after them they are so delectable to cyprinids.
As for backing - not 100% sure - I should measure. I believe it to be approx 12 feet of fly line and another 12-18 feet of backing. Not enough for carp, let's put it that way. The first three fish spooled me and I had to break them off or loose the line.
I caught some carp today with 4 wt - what a contrast. Still a lot of fun, but so powerful.
-
Wow! That is a heck of a fish. Great job Zonk.
-
I will say this folks - they are pricey. Also, they are somewhat difficult to cast, and they don't hold much line... but that makes for all the more challenge, right? I am still riding that high from yesterday.... woohoo!
-
-
I learned everything I know about it from John Montana.
-
Good lawd I wish I could visit your place... sounds like a sight fishing dream.
-
What a day, what a report and what a bunch of fish. Love the detailed description of the take... wow.
-
Glad you got out... fishing time is very valuable!
VERY BAD TRADGEDY!!

I'm glad CMJake is okay - sounds like the seatbelts were critical.
Have to say too, to the person who posted this in reference to the drunk driver:
"i am sort of happy he died to. "
That is quite a statement to make. Keep in mind that despite an obvious problem with excessive drinking (in at least one instance), this person was someone's son/daughter, maybe brother/sister, maybe father/mother too... C'mon man - to wish ill on someone like is pretty poor.
Maybe it'd be better to say " That SOB really needs some help and I hope the MF gets it." That would be acceptable I'd think.
