  1. The key question, of course, is "was alcohol involved?".

The report was that "He stripped to his underwear" before jumping in.

Had this been in the Southwesterm US, I would suspect tequilla could have been involved.

Had it been in US Paylake Country??? I'd bet that someone was drinking their carp bait. (which has seemed to have been a problem with some post on here recently) <_< :D:D

Since it was a UK "misadventure", I would not automatically assume that it was alcohol related.

I would assume that it could have just been that old "English bulldog" mentality.

And--everyone knows that Bulldogs just arn't the best swimmers. I mean--who's ever seen a bulldog retrieving ducks???????

They just don't belong in the water. :D

  2. new the forum but have been fishing for about 25 yrs and counting. I fish almost everyday being the single man I am,,lol

I like to give back to the sport that has given me so much pleasure over the years. I remember when I started fishing and did not know a thing..lol...but I got some help along the way and now it is my turn to return the favor. I am also into conservation side of our sport. looking forward to talking to you guys and gals hope to get to know ya

    Welcome 123.

I'm from the Winston Salem area.

There's about a million carpers right here in central NC.

    Enjoy

    Tim

  3. great stuff jake

can you tell me more about this carp juice? what's it made of?... of course that stuff is not for sale here... so any info will be very helpful

    thanks mate!

You may not be able to get R&W Carp Juice outside of the US, But I can assure that you can get numerous items in Mexico that will provide flavor concentrates, and "sweetners" that will work just as good.

    Trust me--PM me. :D

I promise that on my next trip to Playa Del Carmen----------I'll smuggle in a bunch of Juice. :D

  4. i will be esting again tonight. probly leaving in 10 minutes

    WTG Jake.

As a paylaker I go through a lot of bottles of smell. I have 3-4 flavs that I depend on, but always try another 30-40 flavs each year. I end up with a box of half full (optimist) bottles of smell that I get rid of a couple times a year.

I've been sending those to young guys for several years.

If you will PM me a shipping addy, I'll put yo on the list. You'd probably get a good selection of R&W.

I'd really suggest that other fishermen consider doing the same deal. When ya clean out your stuff---recycle it to someone who can use it.

    t :D

  5. yeah, there is a nice way to say it... next time maybe you'll get it :D

Louis, I apologized to Katman via PM, and was man enough to try to apologize on the open board. If thats not good enough for you, them bend over a plant a nice wet kiss right on my "bait packer". :D:D

That was uncalled for dude. Not surprising--considering your love for me- :D:D:D but-- still pretty lame. :D

  6. hey if someone dont like it dont use it. i fish paylakes and i dare someone to tell me i can't use it. i'll put my 6'9" 320lb. (blankity, blank, blank) on there you know what!!! :D and do it with a smile. :D . i thread these on several hair rigs or leaders and have them there when i rebait. 15 seconds max. if fish are biting that fast then it aint fishing it is catching!! :D

still working out the bugs on packing around a hook. wont be long! :D

and by the way, i have never seen 1 until craig posted it on here. WTG Craig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    big bird

    6'9"? 320 ???

    No big deal. :D:D:D

Hey--For the record, I have spoke with Katman via PM. I realized that my post had not came across as intended and did offer an apology.

My intentions were to try to prod these guys to perfect something that handicapped paylakers would actually use, and could win with. There's just no nice way to say that the things still need work. I didn't mean to sound like a Richard Cranium.

  7. So Tim............

Would the packed bait have to be packed around the hook and hookbait or could you thread this on and have it separate from the hookbait..........

I always thought that the pack had to look like it was the actual hookbait at paylakes

    Cheers

Karl, I don't know of any lake that would have a problem with the bait being threaded on.

I don't know of any paylakers who would be happy using that method though. It just looks like it would be to slow and cumbersome.

Sorry--no offense ment to anyone either. To put it into perspective--You could grab a handful of bait and pack it by hand in like 10 seconds.

I'd love to see one of these gadgets refined to where they could pack a bait around the hook within half a minute or so. That may take some doing though.

  8. Sorry Mork. I was really hopeing that somebody was on to something new here. As it turns out, it's pretty much the same old plunger method thats been around for years.

Now--that being said, it wouldn't take a lot to redesign the deal and have something. So far though----same old same old.

I apologise for not being impressed. I've already seen Newt's versions 1, 1.1, and 1.3.

I didn't mean to sound like I was knocking it. Was just being releastic with my reply concerning paylakes. It's all fine and dandy, whatever makes ya happy yada yada.

    t

  9. And for the record Im not a "proper" packbaiter.. Ive never even been to a paylake. I have just developed baits that work for me in a wildwater fishing situation.

Buster if you would like to pick apart my fishing methods please do, but when you actually post something useful ill take note.

Bro, I could care less about your fishing methods. I'm interested in these contraptions for one reason--handicapped fishermen. So far I havn't seen anything impressive. It's all old news. Same old designs that people have been reinventing every year or so. Sorry---but it's just the same old same old. <_<

Somebody posted asking if that crap would be allowed at a paylake, and I answered. No BS--Just honest.

My question concerning breaktime was legit also. Clearly you catch fish faster than anyone else, so I'll refrain from commenting on why a 30 second break time is not such a good idea.

    :D:D

  10. Seeing as it appears many of us on this board are (including myself) handicapped, this might be something that some of the older or otherwise handicapped paylakers or packbaiters could use. After having my hand crushed/shattered a few years back playing rugby I can hardly open a pop bottle some days. Until recently I hardly ever used packbait for this reason. I would use a lot slower breaking, easier molding method mix around a feeder or my sinker. With this device I can pack oats rock hard and have them break in 30-45 seconds.

OK---so why would you want oats to break in 30 tp 45 seconds??? You say that like it's a good thing????

  11. It appears that it could be done with this one. Pull the hooklength up through the mold and lay it over the side, put the pack in, pull the hooklength back until the hook lays on top of the mix, throw a little more pack in for a cushion and press. The only draw back I see is getting the leader to the center so that it won't cut the pack to bad on the cast.

    Am I missing something?

Here's my take on these things. As long as my hands are strong, I'll pack by hand. My main interest is to find something thats quick and easy enough to work for guys with hand problems--and be effecient enough to bait 20-30 times an hour if need be. (rare--but possible).

I've fooled with two types of these things. One is a mold that attatches to a vise gripe/c-clamp, and the other was the usual ram type.

I havn't put much effort in either, but the problem has been getting the hook centered enough so that it didn't pull out on a hard cast.

The only bait that seems to be a real problem is oats also, and people will not change their bait to adapt it to a gadjet. Gotta perfect the gadjet or they won't use it.

Keep up the experiments. Somebody will hit on it sooner or latter.

  12. There was a guy on here named "Newt" 2-3 years ago that had several of those contraptions. Never caught on though, but there's still probably some threads around somewhere. Was good for a laugh though. :D

I'm still waiting on somebody to figure out how to make a rig that will pack the bait around the hook. It can't be that hard to do.???

    t :D

  13. did you make steaks from the king? The would only make steaks from the ones they caught off of the pier. they sure did look tasty

Yes, I always steak kings. I have a few steaks on the grill right now. :D:D:D

Forgot to say, it probably would have been better if you didn't bring bananas

Honestly--I forgot the bananas. :D Didn't bring any on the boat.

Shame. Maybe if I had kept my potasium level up---I wouldn't feel like $h1T right now. :D:D

  14. Nice fish!

I'd agree with the above statement but given how sensitive the average CAG member is I doubt they'd manage very well on your average headboat LOL

(PS I used to do a lot of headboat fishing in New York when I was growing up)

(PSS Anyone ever catch any tilefish on those long range trips?)

It's really rare to catch a Tilefish on the typical NC headboat trip. These boats usually fish snapper banks at 100 to 200 foot depths. There are a few trips each year that run out of Morehead City NC that target Tiles, but I believe that they fish right on the Conn Shelf in 300 to 400 ft. depths. My Son loves offshore fishing, so I imagine that we will do some of the "special" offshore trips this fall for Tuna, and possibly Tiles.

Gotta admit though--I'm getting a little to old for these 15 to 20 hour trips. :D

  15. that's a nice king, how much did it weigh?

LOL--Not only do I not take pics, I don't weigh fish either. :D (unless it pays)

Thats around 20. Thats a good size fish from offshore waters. The big kings are usually caught inshore.

It's a grill full anyway--and thats all that matters. :D

  16. You look so enthused in the pic :D

I drove 250 miles Saturday night, the boat left the docks at 3AM, came back at 6PM, and then I drove back home. I've had a total about 6 hour sleep since Saturday AM. :D

I'm not real enthused about anything right now-----and I still have to steak and fillet about 75 pounds of fish. :D:D:D

  17. Somebody mentioned that I never post pics of fish. We'll, I normally don't take pics but here's a few from a Headboat trip yesterday. (07/08/07)

    :D

Wasn't a really good trip actually. The ocean was way to calm and the water too clear for good fishing. At one point a large school of Mahi showed behind the boat, but refused any ofering that didn't look perfectly natural. The kings were equally as picky due to the crystal clear water and lack of motion from the baits as they drifted.

I still caught a few nice grouper and more than a few snapper.

Headboat fishing is tough, because you're fishing shoulder to shoulder with your neighbors, but IMHO is one of the best bargains out there.

  18. Nah, I don't really care.

My first post was just in reply to ncarolinacarper who asked for someone to give a reason why they would disagree with the term, so I did.

    Oh--I understood--no diss'n ment towards you.

ncarolinacarper has a freaky cat that pukes up salimanders. :D I think he's prolly in some kind of paylake cult--or may be a"Hit Squad" type anyway.

Freaky cats can only mean BAD things. :D:D

  19. I understand that in many regions there are certain names which may be more commonly used by the locals. Up here walleye are called "pickerel" and northern pike are called "jacks" by the locals. You say that they are called "buffalo carp" in the South... is that bigmouth buffalo or smallmouth buffalo? Or both? How does one specify which species they are talking about? Or better yet, how does one specify which species of sunfish they caught when they are all referred to as "bream"? To most people, details like that don't matter, but to some (such as myself and other multispecies nerds) it does, which is why (key word -->) I don't agree with the term. :D

I don't agree with the term either. I think that refering to a Buff as a Carp is an insult--to the Buff. :D

I've been round and round over it on my board. The locals say Bull Chat. They've called 'em Bufalo Carp for half a century and they're still gonna call 'em Buffalo Carp.

I ain't gonna change their minds, and neither will anyone else. :D

Bottom line though when you get a new guy post up, is it really worth a rats rump whether he uses the "propUer" name???

"Grandpa" can call 'em whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned. :D

  20. I don't agree with the term "buffalo carp" simply because that is not its common name, and adding "carp" to the name does not serve any purpose. Most species of fish generally have one commonly accepted name (ie: largemouth bass - even though it is not a "true" bass, that is its common name). In the case of buffalo, I would refer to them as either bigmouth buffalo, smallmouth buffalo, or black buffalo, depending of course on which species it was.

Down South, Buffalo Carp IS the common name--at least to 10,000 plus paylakers. Much like Crappie are called specks and calico's, Stripers are called Rockfish, Sunfish are called Bream--etc.

It might not be the "ProUper" term for the Queens subjects, but they're gonna call 'em whatever that want to regardless.
