  1. hi :D

i live in Syria ,, and start fishing last year

the problem is, here you cannot find the stuff you need coz fishing here is rare among people :D

for me i am using the old way , the old way works all the time but its not interesting as the modern way

i had achieve good results with it but i cached only small fish

i was looking to get fishing book , but i didn't find any on here

and searched allot in the net i got the same thing ( nothing )

i was wondering if any one near to here so can help me ??? :D

Hi, and welcome back. I noticed that you signd up on the SP Board, and remembered the name but couldn't put it together with a location.

I know nothing about Syria, but have some connections to carp fishing in Iraq. There are certainly some different species of carp--and thier cousins there, so I'd guess that the same could be said for Syria.

My first suggestion would be to read old post in the Paylake Section. Almost any kind of grain, or grain products can be turned into carp bait in the form of dough or packbait. Processed meat products, as well as pet food can be used as bait as well. Small pieces of dried dates make a good hookbait, and all you hve to do is make a dough from local grain products and mold it around a 10 mm square piece of date.

    Hotdogs work too if available.

Forget the boilies and the packbait for now. Create your own style for your waters.

Read the old post and learn. Then ask all the questions you want.

  2. You poor lot, I can buy nearly all the English food stuffs at the local butchers and the supermarket. I had pie and mash with gravy and marrowfat peas a couple nights ago, you should run up over the border lads. We have Brit beer too :D

I can get almost anything Brit here in Winston Salem. It would seem that we have a small population of UK nestlings right in our midst.

I've tried a number of the Brit recipies, and honestly have enjoyed them. I really like the pastie idea, because there's lots of adulterated options available. :D

Problem is--this stuff just looks so different--The "locals" won't eat it, <_< Won't even try . I think that I'll serve cooked cabbage for a few months---then they'll try anything. :D

I'm all for the Britt stuff myself. It provides a great flavor----and the proUper mix of carbs and calories to maintaing a prouper "Portly Bod". :D

  3. Uh-You guys ever though about learning how to cook? :D

I'm cooking up a nice Korma Curry right now, thanks to a little help from my Pals. :D

Bangers and Mash for breakfast tomorrow.

He11--if I keep this up I may get portly enough to pass for one of the Queens's subjects.

    :D

  4. I tie almost all of my rigs on circle hooks. I havn't had any of the problems these guys are talking about. Check this link out, its more about using stiff mono for the hooklink and hair, but maybe thats why circles work for me and not for them. Give them a try. I mostly use VMC sure set #4's. I plan on experimenting a lot more this summer, you'll notice the sure sets don't have a turned down eye, I found its better to have a stright eye.

    Good luck,

    Ray

    mono hair

Ray, the hook in the pic is not a circle hook. It's a semi-circle octopus style. Maybe thats why it works for you. The gap is wide enough on the semi's to be able to stick some flesh, even though they don't always set into the jaw like they're designed to do.

The difference in true circles and semi's is confusing. The original mass produced circles are made by Mustad. I'll try to get a pic of a real circle posted up latter. I think that if anybody sees what a real circle looks like, it'll show why the don't work for carp.

  5. Good hooks for tarpon fishing.

There's been a strong movement to make circles mandatory for Tarpon and Red Drum in NC. There's a booming tarpon fishery in Pamlico Sound, and the Drum follow just a few weeks latter. There's been a ton of research done, and circles have proven to reduce mortality due to deep hooking by a huge margin.

I'm sure that it would be the same for carp, except that the true circles miss the mark on carp and just get jerked completly out on the hookset.

  6. I've been using circles since the early '80's for cats and saltwater species. I don't like them for carp because a carp's mouth just isn't designed to work the way circles are supposed tp work.

I am a BIG fan of the Gami Octopus hooks also, but they are not true circle hooks. The saltwater guys call them semi-circles, because they are a bastardized design somewhere between a J hook and a true circle. I love 'em , but don't use them for carp either.

Circles are the greatest re-invention to come along in years, (even though they've been in use for several thousand years). They hook a normal fish in the corner of the jaw about 95% of the time, and they stay hooked. They just don't do that in a carps odd shaped mouth though.

  7. This is the biggest that I have come up with - Looks like the Carolina's grow some biggies.

The Carolina's do grow some hogs, and we also have some big "normal" carp. Thats one ugly arsed fish IMHO. :D

That things a 30 pound fish carrying 20 plus pounds of manure around as baggage.

It's a freak of nature--in my home state anyway.

  8. Guys, if you're trying to use casters on pods, and fish them Euro style then you're gonna have problems. You're missing the point from the start. Fished paylake style on paylake stands, baitcasters/conventional reels can be deadly.

And, there is a limited selection of long rods available from some Carp Tackle suppliers as well as saltwater rods that will allow you to cast just as far.(or further) than anything using spin gear. You just have to learn how to cast them. :D

I don't have anything against Euro, or spin gear, and I use spinning reels a lot. But--there are a lot of catfishermen and even surf anglers out there who may have casting gear that they could use for carp fishing. Lets give them good info here. Otay?

  9. Does anyone here use baitcasters when carpfishing? I mainly fish for flathead catfish and my abu reels have clickers (baitrunners) on them. It's just harder to use bite alarms with baitcasters.

Tigercarp, the number of carpfishermen using baitcasters in the US probably outnumber the spin crowd by 100 to 1. You just don't see it on the Internet. Checkout the paylake section and get some feedback on the type of setups those guys use. Most paylakers are catfishermen also, so they know all about fishing gear that does double duty.

  10. there is a good book on the subject at acs...THERE ARE NO experts in the USA on applications to enhance carp angling via management

most all are a control issue, and have not a clue how to grow a 5o

    one day perhaps

    ROFLMAO. :D

While most paylake owners arn't experts, there's more than a few who've been at the game for a long time and know the secrets of maintaining healthy populations of carp.

They are not in the game to grow 50's, but they are way ahead of anybody else in the US when it comes to management of carp lakes.

Iffn I wanted a private carp lake, I'd suggest trying to make friends with some of the paylake owners, or some of the more experienced paylakers. They may be able to put you on a source for fish, and some basic management practices.

And, Like Chessie suggested, the Pond Boss website will be invaluable.

  11. Ray.

I'm well aware of just how good Jim (( used to be )) during the wild water competitions. He went Euro on us and now its all about reading, snoring, butt scratching, and socializing. These were traits that Jim was already proficient at, I thought. :D

So far as your long rod partner(( Mark )) goes, good luck. I've fished with Mark and he will never accept the changes that must be made to take this event. I hope you got him schooled in (( Mouse Trap baiting )). :D I dont think he can even make a decent pot of tea. :D

Now for Karl and Keith, the (( Gold dust Twins )). Talk about a couple made for destruction. Put Karls win at all costs Match angling background, and add a little of Keiths (( lets just go to the 360 bridge where its warm, dry, and nice and quiet )) attitude and I think they will self destruct all by themselves. Maybe Keith might be persuaded to help carry, net, make tea, and sit in the truck. :D:D I'd be taking a roll of Duck Tape along if it were me. :D

Brewboy, I've noticed your attitude has changed a little since the Oklahoma Event. I imagine your taking a lot of notes and things but I simply must tell ya that you are in a bad need of a weeks worth of NC paylaking. Give Jim a call and see ifn he will let ya tag along this spring when he comes up for a week. :D

Since Scott has been so silent I hesitate to say too much. One thing for sure though, that horse shoe can't stay lodged in his butt crack forever. I just hope I'm within reach when it drops. :D

Since I must miss this event I sure hope ya'll don't mind if I have a little clean fun at ya'll expense ???? These are my views alone and don't reflect anything about anything. :D

    Tom.

So? We're gonna bet on Sarah and that guys she's dragging alone with her?? :D

Keep his hands off the bait and they could take this thing ya know. :DB)

  12. Sorry Scottie. Herk is good but he is carring a lot of weight. There is one team though. :D Ya giving any odds???? In case your wondering, the odds on the OZ team are 60/40. and the 40% is to win. There is a 50/50 team in the mix though. :D In case your having trouble with your math, Your screwed. Respectively, your screwed that is. :D:D:D

    Tom.

Tom, I'd probably be willing to bet a little money on this-----------------------------------------

Except that I have a real sneaky idea that we'd both want to bet on the same team. :D:D:D

  13. Great pics but should we be killing apex predators like this just to claim a record - discuss <_<

"We" didn't kill it. "They" did.

And "They" probably don't give a phat rats arse whether "We" like it or not. <_<

If "We" really care, then "We" need to join Greenpeace and go out and ram the longliners and driftnet boats that kill hundreds of thousands of "Apex" predators every year. :D

I've been shark fishing for 30 years, and I personaly go to great lengths to try not to harm them. I've caught pure Hell on some message boards because I've pushed, and practiced tailing sharks caught in the surf instead of gaffing them. Still, I know that the only real damage being done to most of our large sportfish is coming from the commercial sector. So if "We" really care, then thats where we should direct our efforts.

  14. I will state this:

Whomever shot Neil any negative PM's/e-mails are complete ASSHOLES!!!

The fact I personally may not want to move a 43+lb carp, is my business. Neil is doing us all a great service, and you blowbags decide to shoot him ####ty e-mails!???!!

I wish I knew who you were.....

This is unreal. A thread where I actually agree with Jerome, BiG, Harry G., Nightwing, and Oz. :D

I just gotta say way to go Neil for trying to do something good for the sport. Just remember who it was that gave ya a hard time. They arn't worthy of being called friends.

This whole argument is absurd. If the Texas P&W want the fish, and an angler is willing to give it to them, then it's a done deal. The fish belongs to whoever caught it, and they can tell anybody than don't like it to F#$@ off.

The arguments over just what size fish is acceptable are silly also. A Texas carp thats in the 40's without a huge load of eggs probably has one fin in the grave already. A 40 with a load of eggs is really just a 30 anyway. The idea of removing "genetic potential" just don't hold water. With almost all species of fish, when they reach maximum age--and size their potential for breeding can begain to drop of drasticaly. It's common for huge females of almost all species to produce fewer high quality eggs as the reach maximum age. There's no real way to know, but it's very possible that removing a healthy 30 could eventually hurt the trophy gene pool more than removing an old, over the hill 40 or 50.

It's all BS anyway, because it's just one damn fish.

    Get over it.

  15. here in nz we have a massive salt water fishing scene and i cant believe that there arent farms around the country producing our sea sports fish and releasing them into the wild to keep the stocks up.

Hatchery restocking doesn't always help. And fish farming (aquaculture) creates it's own problems. It's not just the species that are sought for food that are overfished, but the forage species as well. Releasing hatchery raised fish doesn't help if they have nothing left to eat. :D

There are also cases where certain species of herring have been all but wiped out in order to provide food for farm raised fish. Farming can also cause all kinds of water quality problems.

This report is old news. Experts have been warning of a total collapse for decades. It's already happened with some species in US waters, And some species have been brough back from the brink of extinction by adopting proper management plans.

Making changes on a global scale is what it will take to fix the problem. Unfortunatly, it pprobably won't happen in time.

BUT---there is still hope for seafood.

The fish that can live off soybean and corn based feed will one day be farmed in massive quantities.

You may very well see carp steaks going for $40 a pound at your local seafoof retailer.

They wll chnge the name though. :D

  16. One thing I'd like to add. If you wear a watch, please remove it before pickung up a carp. Steel clasps can, and will, cause damage.

Uhh--That raises the question----- why would anybody pick a carp up??? That causes damage in itself, and really raises the risk of dropping one by a few % points. :D:D

    They ain't kitty Kats.---and they stink. :D:D:D

    :D
