  1. Thanks Guys ..me and the boys !

Ken,.. I almost picked up one of the rods.. but, left it for the kids !.. They caught 7 and lost 5..So I was busy re-rigging , being net boy, unhooking fish etc.. it was enjoyable watching them !

Chris,.. the mirrors are few and far between.. only a handfull or 2 in 8 yrs ( but a 30 came out a couple of yrs back !)

    All the best... Val G

  2. Went out last Sunday with my sons Connor & Keenan. We were fishing the Hudson as a practice session for the Junior Tourney on the 20th. We prebaited a spot the day before using the boat ,.. we scattered 5 gals of corn and chicks over a large area about 30-40 yds from shore in 10' of water .

We arrived at the swim at 7am (it's not easy getting young teens out of bed at 6am :P )

At 7:30 Connor get the first fish.. no problems.. a mid teen

So next fish is Keenan's.. at 8am he gets a screamer,..but pulls the hook. He's not happy, but his older bro tells him to take the next one !!.... soon after he has another one on but it cuts him off on some rocks. Again Connor tells him to take the next one.. This happens 3 more times.. all cut-offs. I dig in my bag and find a spool of 65lb PP and tie on a 25' leader .

Soon after he has another run... but this one goes straight out and avoids the rocks :)

Keenan fighting his soon to be first fish of the day (6th attempt :) )(finally says Connor :D )

  3. Thanks for looking fellas !

Andrew,.. I'm pretty sure that it is a shortnose Sturgeon.... an adult grows to about 4'.Where as the Alantic Sturgeon can grow to 14',.. they're in the Hudson too.. not sure about them being that big !!

Joel,snagmagnet.. about 5 yrs ago I saw one about 4-5' long jump clear out of the water at the federal dam,.. no tags btw

    Mark & NY Rob..... :)

  4. Hey Guys, I was fishing the Hudson River last W/E (Memorial). Had a good session ,.. caught a bunch of carp,..

I was fishing about 70yds from shore,.. and foul hooked this guy while reeling in to change the bait . He was hooked close to the tail and took off "no worse for ware "when released after a few quick photos

I see them quite often leaping out of the water,.. but never thought I'd see one up close !

  5. This trip will be etched in my memory as one of my best ever... it was magic for me ! These beautiful fish fought hard when hooked and were a lot of fun on the lighter tackle,.. sometimes jumping high out of the water trying to throw the hook and other times taking 30-50 yrs of line off the spool after you think that you had it beat from playing it for 10 mins.

I can't wait to do it again !!!!!!

For those of you that aren't familiar with steelhead (like me prior to this trip) The top pic is a steelie that recently entered the river .. and the other two are fish that have been in the river for a couple of weeks!
